文章大意:本文讲述了Ambrose James帮助了帕克和他的父亲,但是不要钱。三十年后帕克又遇见了他。他还记得那时的事。帕克认为他是一个真正的英雄。

【推荐2】On a hot July afternoon 30 years ago, Donald Parker and his father were returning from a trip to Canton. In the back of their truck were live birds and animals they had bought for their Wildlife Park.

Unluckily, the truck broke down on their way. They didn’t know what to do because they had little knowledge of cars, and had no cellphone with them. It was 38℃ and there was little possibility that they could stop a car on the way. Parker began to be scared.

All of a sudden, a truck pulled up beside them. “Need help?” the man inside asked.

“Yes, my truck has broken down and my dad’s in trouble. He can’t stand the heat.”

Almost without hesitation, the man said he would be right back. In a few minutes, the man came back with a flatbed trailer (平台拖车). First, he put both Parker and his father in his truck, turning on the air-conditioning. Then he pulled the broken-down truck onto his trailer and drove the pair home.

Parker wanted to give him money for saving them, but the man refused to take it.

“I tried, but he wouldn’t take any money. I managed to put a couple of bills in the front seat as he drove away. Through the years, I had forgotten his name, but I know it was he who saved us,” Parker said.

That was 30 years ago. Recently, Parker happened to run into that man again, and they both looked at each other for a moment. But it was the man who spoke first. He asked Parker if he still remembered what happened.

“Of course,” Parker said. They laughed, and Parker got the man’s name — Ambrose James. Parker told James he was a true hero. But just like the money, he didn’t take that, either.
