To live a long and healthy life, we must learn to have a balanced diet. A balanced diet includes (包括) meat, fish, vegetables and fruits.

Every day my mother cooks meals for us. We often eat rice, noodles, dumplings, porridge and milk. We often eat meat, fish and a lot of fruit and green vegetables. But we don’t eat fruit with meals. We often eat fruit after supper.

I like pork, but I like chicken better. I like beef best. I like tomatoes, but I like potatoes better and I like Chinese cabbages best.

I’m not ill. I keep healthy. Because I have a balanced diet every day.

【推荐2】Today there are 6 billion people on the earth. By the year 2050 there may be 12.5 billion. This is a lot of people to feed. We need more food. One way to produce more food is by growing stronger plants. For thousands of years, farmers have made plants better. Every season, they pick the best plants for the next season. It works very slowly. Since 1983, scientists have been able to change plants more quickly by changing their genetic material(遗传物质). Food from plants grown in this way are called genetically modified foods or GM foods.

By changing the genetic material of a plant, it is possible to make new plants. They make plants which are strong against plant diseases. They can also help in our diseases: a kind of rice is being prepared, for example, which stops people from becoming blind.

Rich countries produce GM foods because they are easy to grow and bring in more money. Poor countries are interested in them because they help produce more food, GM plants are not natural. No one knows how good or bad they are. Making GM foods is only one way of feeding people in 2050. There are strong feelings against them, because they are unnatural. They may feed people, then hurt them or their children later. But both rich and poor countries are very interested in their use, and they are not going to go away. In 2050 we may think differently about them.

China is known as the home of tea. Since ancient times, tea has become part of Chinese culture, leaving its smell in poems and customs. Many tea lovers enjoy tea not just for its taste, but also for the beauty of tea ceremonies（仪式）.

Picking tea leaves is an important spring activity along the Yangtze River in South China. The earliest batch（批）of tea is often ready to be picked before Qingming in early April, when the temperature begins to rise and rainfall increases. This kind of tea is called Mingqian tea.

Zhejiang province is regarded as a main producer of tea. White Tea and West Lake Longjing Tea in Hangzhou are famous both at home and abroad. In spring, the hillsides in those places are full of tea workers working on their land. In the high seasons, many tourists travel to see the beautiful sight of tea farms, while enjoying a freshly prepared cup of tea.

Thousands of years ago, by the hands of the Chinese people, a leaf was made into a delicious drink. It has traveled a long way and continues to play a role in our life, even today.

【推荐2】Healthy eating doesn't just mean what you eat, but how you eat. Here is some advice on healthy eating.

Eat with others. It can help you to see others' healthy eating habits. If you usually eat with your parents, you will find that the food you eat is more delicious.

Listen to your body. Ask yourself if you are really hungry. Have a glass of water to see if you are thirsty—sometimes you are just thirsty, you need no food. Stop eating before you feel full.

Eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. After you don't eat for the past ten hours, your body needs food to get you going. You will be smarter after eating breakfast.

Eat healthy snacks like fruits, yogurt or cheese. We all need snacks sometimes. In fact, it's a good idea to eat two healthy snacks between your three meals. This doesn't mean you can eat a bag of chips instead of a meal.

Don't eat dinner late. With our busy life, we always put off eating dinner until the last minute. Try to eat dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed. This will give your body a chance to digest most of the food before you rest for the next 8–10 hours.

【推荐1】Vanuatu is an island nation in the South Pacific. It is one of the smallest countries in the world. But for those who are interested in adventure and sport, there is a lot to do. Vanuatu’s islands offer visitors two of the most exciting and dangerous activities in the world: volcano (火山) surfing and land diving.

Volcano Surfing

On Tanna Island, Mount Yasur rises 300 meters into the sky. Yasur is an active volcano, and it erupts (爆发) almost every day, sometimes several times a day. For centuries, people have climbed this mountain to visit the top. Recently, people have also started climbing Yasur to surf the volcano. In some ways, volcano surfing is like surfing in the sea, but in other ways it’s very different. Volcano surfers try to escape the erupting volcano—without getting hit by flying rocks! It’s fast, fun and dangerous—the perfect extreme sport (极限运动).

Land Diving

Most people are familiar with bungee jumping, but do you know bungee jumping started on Pentecost Island in Vanuatu and is almost fifteen centuries old? The activity, first called land diving, is part of a religious ceremony (宗教仪式). A man ties tree vines (树藤) to his legs. He then jumps head-first from a high tower to touch the earth with the top of his head—without breaking the vines. Every spring, island natives (men only) still take part in this amazing activity.

Some dogs help people to look after sheep, other dogs help them to find the lost children. And some of the dogs can help the blind(盲人).

There is a kind of dog. His name is Seeing Eye dog. Now we can see this kind of dog all over the world. They are working for the blind. The Seeing Eye dog is strong and easy to train(训练). He helps the blind to walk from place to place. Before a dog becomes a Seeing Eye dog, he must go to a training school for about three months. First the dog has to learn to sit or stay when he hears the trainer’s call. In his next lesson, the dog learns to take his trainer across busy streets. The dog has many things to learn. At the end of the training school he must take tests. When he passes the test, the Seeing Eye dog will do things by himself.

Now he can help the blind people. The new master may be a man, a woman, or even a child. It takes the dog and his blind master about a month to learn to work and live together.

【推荐3】The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics took place between Feb 4 and 20. We would like to introduce you to the four disciplines (分项) of sports in the Games.

Speed skating	It’s a sport of racing on ice skates that started in the Netherlands. Organized international competition developed in the late 19th century. It was included as a men’s event in the first Winter Olympics in 1924. Women’s speed-skating events were added in 1960. The competition took place from 5 February—19 February 2022.
Short track speed skating	It’s a skating competition that takes place on a 111.12 m track (跑道) in a 60×30 m ice rink (冰场). As it uses a shorter track than the traditional 400 m track, it is often called short track. It tests the speed, skills and bravery of the competitors. The competition took place from 5 February—16 February 2022.
Figure skating	Figure skating is both an art and a sport. It combines (结合) skating skills with dance movements. There are various kinds of figure skating, including freestyle, pairs, ice dance and team skating. It’s one of the most popular winter sports of the Winter Olympics. The competition took place from 4 February—20 February 2022.
Ice hockey	It’s a game between two teams who wear skates and compete on an ice rink. Each team usually has six players. All team members have to pull together to win the game. With its speed and team spirit, ice hockey has become one of the most popular sports. The competition took place from 3 February—20 February 2022.
