This year, researchers at Harvard Business School carried out a study which aimed to test how well AI (人工智能) tools could help workers perform their tasks. Harvard Business School recently published results from the experiment in a “working paper.” The main findings suggest that AI tools like ChatGPT can greatly improve worker performance. For example, researchers found that workers who used OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT 4 tool completed 12 percent more tasks than non-ChatGPT users. Tasks carried out with help from the AI technology were completed 25 percent faster. And the team found the quality of work performed by consultants (顾问) using ChatGPT 4 increased about 40 percent.
The findings of the result showed that AI tools can help even highly educated, experienced workers. “The fact is that we could boost (推动) the performance of these highly paid, highly skilled consultants. I would say that’s really impressive.” Dell’Acqua, the lead writer of the paper said.
However, the paper also noted areas where the performance of consultants using ChatGPT 4 dropped. The researchers said this was especially true with tasks the AI tool was not good at completing. Of tasks the AI was good at, the experiment showed it “significantly improved human performance,” the paper said. But for tasks ChatGPT 4 was not right for, “humans depended too much on the AI, and were more likely to make mistakes.” The researchers reported that 19 percent of consultants who used AI for tasks which were not well equipped (有能力的) for were less likely to produce correct solutions compared to those without AI.
The team suggests one of the biggest barriers (障碍) to companies effectively using AI is not knowing which tasks can be completed best with the technology. Finding this out will require businesses to carry out thoughtful research and training efforts in order to find the right mix of AI and human-level work.

Toyota engineer Shinichiro Noda said the company planned to send the car to the moon in the late 2020s. After that, Toyota said the car could help people live on the moon by 2040 and could possibly be sent to Mars (火星) as well.

More and more people believe that technologies are great for learning. Today, such teaching tools as iPads are used in a lot of courses, including language
Many teachers are supporters of using iPads in language learning. They say that students now have much more time for discussion in the classroom. Instead of spending valuable class time listening to texts or watching teaching videos, students can do this on their own and come to class prepared for discussion.
The teachers also say that iPads allow students to learn at their own pace. Some students might listen to a dialogue only once and understand it, so they can save time for doing other things. Other students, however, might need to listen to the same conversation again and again tounderstand it.
The students who are using the new tool in some courses are also happy. They believe that using iPads is a more enjoyable way to learn (such as listening to stories and watching movies). The class has become much more interesting and creative.
There are other advantages for students. By using iPads, they can pay more attention to the material and learn more. Teaching notes are stored in their iPads and are easy to find. Some students spend more time studying now. “I can listen to my language material or watch teaching videos on the bus, instead of having to wait until I get home.”
Many adults complain that technologies such as iPads are doing harm to students. They worry that students might use iPads to download teaching notes and use them to cheat during exams. Some believe that iPads may separate students from each other. If a student spends more time watching videos on an iPad, he will have fewer opportunities to have face-to-face communication with others.
However, technologies are already a part of most students’ day-to-day lives. As for cheating, teachers can ask students to hand in their iPads when they take exams. Education needs to make changes with the times as technology is playing an important part. We should look forward to a wonderful future when iPads and other technologies can add a lot to the classroom.

The Spring Equinox is the fourth term of the year. It is a good time to fly kites. In ancient times, people did not have good medical resources. So to hope for health, they wrote their medical problems on paper kite. Clear and Bright is the 5th solar term. It is the only one whose first day is also a traditional Chinese festival, Tomb-Sweeping(扫墓) Day. It is said that it brings good luck and diseases can be chased away by doing this.
Grain Rain is the last term in spring. This period of rainfall is very important for the growth of crops. There is an old custom in southern China that people drink tea on the day of Grain Rain. Spring tea during Grain Rain is rich in vitamins and amino acids (氨基酸) which can help to remove heat from the body and is good for the eyes. It is also said that drinking tea on this day would prevent bad luck.
Start of Summer is the 7th term of the year. The temperature will rise quickly during this period. In ancient China, people believed a round egg represented a happy life and eating eggs on the day of Start of Summer was a hope for good health. But French designers Mathieu Lehanneur and Anthony van den Bossche didn’t think that was enough. They wanted to add something new in people’s living rooms. So they created a do-it yourself ecosystem (生态系统) named “Local River”. The system lets its owner grow fish and plants inside tanks (缸) in their living rooms. In the DIY fish and gardening ecosystem, the plants on top of the tank feed on the waste of the fish below. It makes the water clean so the fish can go on living. In this way, the fish and plants in the Local River can keep the balanced environment, and only need a little help from the owner. The system is also called “fridge-aquarium(冰箱水族馆)” by some people because owners can use the fish and plants as food. That is to say, owners are able to grow fish and plants within the “Local River” before eating them. Almost any plant can grow on top of the tanks and most freshwater fish are able to live in the tanks below. The “Local River” ecosystem from Paris comes in small and large models. It is a relaxing thing to have in your home.
