What can you see from the window? From the window, some people can see dry and fallen trees. But others can see the sunshine and hope outside the window. Two old men lived in the same hospital room. The first one could sit up for an hour every day. His bed was next to the window of the room. The second one was lying on the bed all day and couldn’t see clearly.
They would talk about their homes, jobs, families and friends, and what they would do when they left the hospital.
Every afternoon, a nurse would help the first man sit up. He then would tell the second man about the things that happened outside the window. The second man could feel that it was a beautiful world. It made him feel alive and he really wanted to thank the first man.
As time went on, the nurse found the first man had passed away one morning. The second man was very sad to hear that. After he became better, he asked to change the bed by the window to see the world. However, when he got there, he saw nothing but a wall.
The old man got surprised and asked the nurse why the first man lied (撒谎). The nurse replied that the man was blind. “Though he couldn’t see, he had a warm and big heart full of love.” She added.

“What is going on here?” Maria asked. Her sisters looked angrily at each other. There were clothes all over the floor. “Let’s slow down,” she said. “I need to understand the problem. Why are you fighting?”
Olivia took a deep breath. “Well, Anna borrowed my shirt,” she said. “My green shirt. It is my favorite one.” She took it without asking, and then she got it stained.” Olivia held out a green T-shirt with a brown stain on it. “It isn’t my fault,” said Anna, “My friend Greg dropped his chocolate on me. Then Olivia started shouting at me and threw out all of my clothes.” “Okay,” said Maria. “Now I can tell you how we solve this problem.” She sat the girls down on the bed. “Anna, you took Olivia’s shirt without asking,” said Anna.
“You did. Then you got it stained at school. Though you didn’t stain the shirt, it is your responsibility because you took it.” Anna nodded.

The best way for you to speak to your sister is to be patient and talk about what is wrong.” Olivia nodded. “I am sorry I threw your clothes around. I was mad because of the shirt. “I am sorry that I took the shirt,” said Anna. “I like it, but I should have asked you.”
“See?” said Maria. “Isn’t it better than you shout for it?” The girls nodded. Maria smiled.

The event took place one snowy January morning. Thomas Smith was walking his dog, Jack, in the park. “As I was walking, I just saw Jack running onto the ice towards the ducks in the middle, and then he fell into the water and couldn’t climb out,” said Smith. He realized he had no choice but to try and save his dog. “Someone else told me the lake was only one-meter deep, but it was at least twice that. I had to break my way through the 6-cm ice. Finally, I got Jack by the neck, and pulled him out. I don’t think I have ever felt so cold by the time we got back to dry land. And when we got there, everyone was asking if Jack was okay — no one was particularly worried about me!”
A neighbor, Julie Brown, saw it all happen. “The dog went onto an icy lake. All of a sudden, it started to go under. There were crowds of people around, and they were all shouting and screaming. Before I knew it, the owner Smith was in the water forcing his way through the ice. I can’t begin to imagine how cold it was. Everyone was very nervous, but he was as cool as a cucumber (黄瓜) — he just crawled back out, put the dog on its lead (狗绳), and went home.”
Many regard him as a hero, but Mr. Smith said, “Most dog owners are the same as me. They would do what I did without a second thought. But in the future, I’m going to make sure he’s on a lead near any ice ponds.”
