【推荐1】Last week, City Daily did a survey about “How do Chinese people celebrate the Spring Festival?” and “How do Americans celebrate Christmas?”. About 500 Chinese people and 300 Americans took part in the online survey. Here are the results.

Such a survey can be naturally connected with the importance of the Spring Festival for Chinese people, but what results in these differences? To my understanding, at least two reasons can explain this result. For one thing, Chinese people have a strong sense of family, which enables many people to celebrate the Spring Festival together with family members or relatives.

For another, compared with before, some people are richer, and they have more freedom, during the vacation. So, many people choose to celebrate this holiday by travelling. As for Americans, they prefer travelling. In fact, Americans like travelling on vacations, not only Christmas. Americans like exercising. There are no parks with fitness equipment (健身器材) in the US. So, they pay money to go to the gym.

【推荐2】Did you watch the grand National Day celebration on TV on Oct. 1 this year? There were many student performers (表演者). What would it feel like to be part of such a great event? Three teenagers shared their stories with us.

Zhou Jingqi, 14, Beijing

I was in one of the 36 formations (方阵). We were wearing yellow T-shirts, holding flowers and flags in our hands. I shouted loudly “Long live our motherland”. It may not seem hard to walk in a formation. But we started training (训练) as early as July. We had four group training sessions in Changping, Beijing. We learned to walk at a certain pace-walking 116 meters every 90 seconds.

On October 1, we waited at Dongdan at 2 a.m. But I didn’t feel sleepy that day. Instead, I was full of joy and pride. I’ll never forget seeing the aircraft flying above my head and making the shape of a “70”!

We are twin brothers. We sang in a choir (合唱团). Our choir performed 16 songs, including My Motherland and Me and On the Hopeful Field. We practiced hard over the summer. Sometimes we had to stand and sing for a whole day. We canceled (取消) our family vacation because we needed to practice.

On the night of performance, we were surprised by the strong sound of people singing together. Our hard work paid off and it was such a great honor to be there!

Different countries have different Teachers’ Days.

People do different activities（活动）in different seasons in China. In spring, children in Shandong Province usually fly kites. In Hainan Province, Children go swimming. In Shanghai, thousands of people go for the spring marathon（马拉松）.

People around China like doing all kinds of water sports in summer. In Xiamen, young people often play beach volleyball（沙滩排球）. In Anhui Province, students row（划船）along the Yangtze River.

Autumn brings fine days and cool temperatures. In Shannxi Province, teachers and students climb Mount Han. People from all over the world go for the Tour of Qinghai Lake Bicycle Race in Qinghai Province.

People in Harbin love winter because they love skating. In Dalian, many adults（成年人）also like this season very much. They go out（户外）to swim in the icy-cold water and go skiing a lot.

Young People’s Day Camp (YPDC) has been providing wonderful summers for the children of Central New Jersey since 1972. Now we are preparing for a new summer and it will be our most exciting summer ever.

Our camp is in beautiful Roosevelt Park with a library and a museum. As a former (昔日的) baseball player, I feel the need to keep teenagers healthy. So we will offer a special training program. This program will cover different sports for each child through the summer camp.

We use 20-passenger buses. We will pick up (接) each child between 7:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. with door to door transportation. Children will be home between 3:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Every day my son came home happily. He talked about how much fun he had and what he did. Before the summer was even over, he said, “Mom, I want to go back next year.” I would like to say thank you and I will see you all next summer.

【推荐3】The Digital Media Summer Camp

The digital media (数字媒体) summer camp is a great chance for students aged 7 to 18 to have STEM courses. Students can learn to build an app, a program, a robot or explore (探索) the world of music production. STEM courses will also help students create, learn teamwork and solve problems.

Students will learn from our teachers who have both teaching experience and rich knowledge in their fields. Students will not only make new friends, but also leave with amazing final projects and lasting memories.

Some people think that memes can create a relaxing atmosphere, but others think that Internet language should not be widely used in real life. Do you think memes can help social communication?

【推荐2】Everyone gets angry. Many things may make you angry. Maybe your teacher gave you too much homework. Or maybe a friend borrowed your favorite video game and then broke it. You may get angry when something doesn’t go your way. Maybe you get mad at yourself when your team loses an important game. Or maybe you become a road rager (路怒族) when a driver accidentally cuts in front of you. That makes you angry!

You need to know what to do with your anger. Here are some things you can do when you feel angry:

Count to 10.

Get or give a hug.

Talk to a friend you can trust.

Draw a picture of your anger.

Sing along with the music player.

Take some exercise, such as taking a bike ride, going skating and playing basketball.

Never getting angry is impossible. But when you’re angry, you can do something and it can make things better. Don’t let anger be the boss of you. Take charge of it!

▲ Jumping and playing with a ball can be fun ways to draw younger kids’ attention. You could also mix study and sports, helping both seem less boring. “In maths, students could do some exercises, and then perform as many jumps as the last answer,” Dr. Juutinen Finni says.

Whenever possible, get outside. Not surprisingly, young people move more when they’re outdoors. In a 2019 study of almost 6,500 children in 12 countries, they did more exercise when they went outside than they stayed indoors.

Young people should also aim (以……为目标) to be strong, and some of them, especially teenagers, may be more pleased to do weight training than to go family dancing.

“If your kids don’t want to walk, run or ride bikes but like to lift a weight, you can let them do some push-ups and jumps!” Dr. Juutinen Finni says. “Exercise like these is safe for kids,” she adds. “And it can be done with little or no equipment.”

Young people could also allow their friends or parents to join in for competition. “But it’s essential for parents to remember that they shouldn’t try to be the PE teacher,” says AliMc Manus, a professor of health and exercise.   “If we pay attention to how exercise should or must be done, children and teenagers may feel down.”
