Have you ever cut, copied and pasted (粘贴) something on a computer? What about opening a file (文件) by clicking on it? These ideas and technologies were created by Larry Tesler, an American computer scientist.
Larry Tesler was born on 24th April 1945. He had a strong interest in computers in his early years. In high school, he started to show his talent for numbers. His teacher noticed it and told Tesler that his skill could be used in computer science. Tesler then became interested in computers and joined a programme where he could spend half an hour of computer time each week. During that time, he taught himself programming before he went to college! Eight years after graduating from Stanford University, Tesler took a job at Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Centre (PARC), where he developed “cut”, “copy” and “paste”. Before his creation, people would edit (编辑) a text by physically cutting parts of printed text and gluing them elsewhere.
Tesler also got the idea that a user should be able to open a file by simply clicking on it. He hoped to make it easier for people to use computers.
Besides, Tesler realized the cheaper and better personal computer would be popular in the market, so he decided to push for low-cost computers. It turned out to be such a wise decision.
Tesler developed many new and creative programs and made life easier for many people. Sadly, the great scientist passed away on 17th February 2020 at the age of 75. However, he will always be remembered, for the great contributions(贡献) he made to society.

In the countryside, I had a lot of good friends. On Saturday, we did a lot of interesting things. We played hide-and-seek (捉迷藏), swam and went fishing. We enjoyed ourselves. But things didn’t always go well. On Sunday, my friends and I went to a hill behind the village. Soon, we climbed to the top of the hill. We began to play hide-and-seek happily. In the afternoon, we were so tired that we fell asleep on the grass. Suddenly, Zack shouted. We woke up and ran to him. He showed a red swelling (肿) on his face to us. And then we found a wasp (黄蜂) flying around. At once we knew what happened to Zack—he was stung (蜇) by the wasp. We were worried about him. So we took him to my grandma. She helped him. Luckily, his face got well soon.

Her family often had to move very far. As a result, Lola had to travel more than two hours each way to get to and from school. At school, Lola hid her homelessness from teachers and other students. She was embarrassed, and she didn’t want to be treated differently than other kids.
In 6th grade, Lola discovered a way to deal with some of her stress. She began studying dance at her middle school, and she loved it.
“It was a way for me to express myself, instead of just holding everything in,” she explains.

For the past 20 years, the Touching China(感动中国) annual people award has honored people from all walks of life across the country. They are people who warm our hearts with their actions. This year, Yang Zhenning is chosen for it.
No matter where he has been, he has always had his motherland in mind. In 1957, Yang was studying in the US. He and another Chinese student, Tsung-dao Lee came up with a physics theory together. Months later, the two won the Nobel Prize in Physics for their theory. Their achievement proved that Chinese scientists could be on the global frontier(前沿).
However, the “frozen(冻结)” Sino-US(中美) relations prevented Chinese scientists who received doctoral degrees(博士学位) in the US from returning to China. Then, in 1971, Yang finally got the chance to return to China for a visit. Later, Yang sold a house in the US, donating the money to Tsinghua University. In 2003, Yang returned to China and also taught at Tsinghua.
Under his influence, many overseas Chinese returned to China to make contributions to our great country, such as Turing Award winner Yao Qizhi and physicist Wu Xiaogang.
