Have you ever wondered why we can’t remember things from when we were under 3 years old? There are a couple of reasons why our early memories might disappear.

Firstly, our brains are still developing when we’re very young. Although our brains have about 100 billion neurons (神经), the connections between them aren’t fully stable (稳定) until around the age of 3. So, some memories might not stick because the brain’s network isn’t fully built yet.

Another reason is that our brains are like busy organizers, always sorting through information. When we’re very young, our brains gather all kinds of memories, but not all of them are important for staying alive or everyday life. So, to keep things tidy and make room for new, more important information, our brains might let go of those early memories.

Some scientists also think that because babies are still learning language, they might not store memories in the same way older children and adults do. Without words to connect to experiences, these early memories might be harder to remember later on.

However, not all early memories disappear. Sometimes, if something really big happened when we were very young, we might keep a bit of that memory. Researchers have found that with the right triggers (触发器), like a specific smell or sound, people can sometimes remember these early memories.

So, while we might not remember every detail from when we were babies, our brains were busy learning and growing, making sure we kept the most important memories and skills we needed.

【推荐2】Does rain make you sleepy? If so, you’re not alone! Many people say the sound of raindrops hitting the window can put them right to sleep. In fact, people often turn on recordings of the sound of rain to help them fall asleep at night. Why does rain have this influence on people?

There are a few reasons why a rainy day might make you sleepy. One is the lack of sunlight. When sunlight shines on the human body, it makes people feel more awake and cheerful. The lack of light on a rainy day can have the opposite influence—people may feel sleepy or a little depressed.

The sound of rain also plays a part. Rain is pink noise. A study found that pink noise reduces brain waves. Experts believe this makes it a possible sleep aid. Rain isn’t the only example of pink noise in nature. Other examples include blowing leaves, wind, and the sound of your own heartbeat.

Of course, rain isn’t the only type of weather that has an influence on the human body. During the winter months, many areas see less sunlight. Many people experience low spirits during this time. Have you ever noticed that more people get sick during cold months? That’s because illnesses like the flu grow and spread easier when it’s cold outside.

The opposite is also true. People often experience lower blood pressure in summer. Increased sunlight can lead to a mood boost(情绪提升). Some researchers also believe spending time outside on a pleasant day can increase creative thinking.

So if you’re lucky enough to have sunny weather today, try spending some time outside! You never know how it could influence your mood.

1. What does the underlined word “depressed” in paragraph 2 probably mean?

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了5G移动网络技术的特点以及它所带来的变化。

【推荐3】Do you know 5G? It is the fifth generation (代) of mobile network technology. These new networks are coming.

China just issued commercial licenses (发放商用牌照) for 5G on June 6. This means that China’s telecom companies were soon able to offer 5G networks for mobile phone users.

Each mobile network generation is faster and more powerful than the one before it. 1G let us talk to each other. 2G let us send messages. 3G gave us data and the Internet. And 4G made all of these things faster. What’s special about 5G?

5G has a very short delay between sending and receiving information. Now, 4G takes about 100 to 200 milliseconds (毫秒) to send and receive data. But 5G will get it down to 1 millisecond or less—this is almost real-time.

This big change will not only make our mobile Internet faster, but also deeply change our lives. Read on to find out how.

5G+entertainment (娱乐)

5G networks are about 100 times faster than 4G. This means you can dowload a movie in seconds using 5G.

Also, virtual reality (VR) games will become more popular with 5G. The short delay of 5G will make the games feel even more real.

5G+transportation

5G will also bring us safer self-driving cars. These cars can send signals (信号) to each other. They also talk to traffic lights and road sensors (传感器). 5G will allow cars to react even faster than human drivers.

5G+smart homes

5G also makes the Internet of things possible. Internet of things is a large network that connects everything to the Internet. Smart homes are part of it.

For example, your toaster can automatically (自动地) start making breakfast after your alarm rings. And if its sensor feels the air becoming dry, a smart sprinkler could water your plants by itself.

1. What does the underlined word “delay” in Paragraph 4 probably mean in Chinese?.
A.延时B.暂停C.断开D.卡顿
2. 5G will change people’s lives in many ways EXCEPT ________.
A.entertainmentB.transportationC.smart homesD.health
3. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.Mobile phone users can use 5G networks.B.Each mobile network generation has their own advantages.
C.5G will change our lives in many ways.D.5G will bring us safer self-driving cars.
