Last year, I became a senior high school student. I met so many different people who left a deep impression (印象) on me. I have studied harder and got better grades than before. But the most impressive thing happened during military training (军训).

One month after school started, we went to the Oriental Land for military training. I felt quite excited and got everything ready quickly. During the training, I took part in different kinds of activities and did a good job. On the third day, we got together in a big square with a four-meter-high wall. We were required to climb the wall without using any tools.

“How could that happen?” I said to myself in disbelief. Our trainers picked out some volunteers to show us how to do it. To our surprise, they did it easily by working together—they formed a human pyramid (叠罗汉). It was unbelievable!

Inspired, we started climbing one by one. As I’m bigger and stronger, I volunteered to push my classmates up so that others at the top of the wall could pull them up. Honestly, it was quite tiring. But I didn’t complain because I believed that we could do it. I held on and kept pushing, even though my legs and arms hurt. Finally, after I was pulled up, we finished the task. I felt very proud.

Now we play sports, solve math problems, organize and participate in school activities as a team. We can always succeed as a team.

He was born in 1930 in Beijing. In the 1960s, people in China didn’t have much food to eat. Many people lost their lives because of this. Yuan was very worried, and he decided to work on a kind of hybrid rice (杂交水稻) to feed more people. He developed a new kind of rice in 1974. To help more people, he travelled around the world and gave advice about growing rice in the 1980s. He helped people not only in China, but also in many other areas (地区) around the world. He died in Changsha in 2021. Yuan Longping won World Food Prize for his work in 2004.

He played an important role in ending hunger. It’s Yuan’s dream to sit under the ears of rice and enjoy the cool day. He once said, “I dream that rice will grow as high as sorghum (高粱).” People nowadays can live a better life, because he did a great job on rice growing. We should save food and never waste any food. It’s the best way to remember him.

【推荐2】I’m from Canada and now live in Shanghai. I love planes very much and have many model planes. A C919 model plane is one of my favorites. The C919 is the first China-made plane. It made its first flight (飞行) from Shanghai to Beijing on May 28 last year. The next day, it started regular (定时的) service, flying between Shanghai and Chengdu. As soon as I heard about the first regular flight, I decided to buy a ticket online. Luckily, I bought one just before they sold out.

The flight was so popular that I could only select a middle seat on the day of the flight. There were 164 people on the plane. They were happy to take the plane. I sat with two plane lovers. To my left was a young man from Chengdu. He flew to Shanghai just to take the first C919 flight back to his hometown. To my right was a young plane lover from Hong Kong. He made his way to Shanghai to take pictures of the first commercial flight of the C919. When he knew the C919 started its service to Chengdu, he quickly bought a ticket.

It was a wonderful flight. But it seemed too short for me. Luckily, I’ll take a C919 flight back to Shanghai the day after tomorrow. I can have that wonderful flight again!

Hearing the sad news, Fuzhou people left messages online to mourn (悼念) him. One of the messages reads: “He was a dutiful civil servant, who worked for the people. We will always remember the leader who has the people in his heart.”

Whenever accidents and disasters happened, he always rushed to the front line with rescue teams. In the early morning of May 8, 2016, a mudslide caused by days of heavy rain hit Chitan Village in Sanming’s Taining County, keeping many workers under a workshop.

At 5:30 am, Pan immediately rushed to the scene, organized police and provided traffic control for rescue vehicles. Rescue work lasted five days, during which he worked side by side with members of the search teams and the police.

A week before his sudden death,he was still busy with work, from theCOVID-19 control and prevention public safety and important events, to Mid-Autumn Festival greetings to police officers and medical workers.

To his colleagues (同事) Pan was a strict leader at work,but he also showed warmth and care to the happiness of the police officers, giving his word in providing “a warm home for everyone”.

When he started working in Sanming in 2014, he studied the police stations in the city and learned that, among the 96 sites, more than half were built in the 1970s or 1980s and had less than enough workingand living facilities (设施). He immediately started a project to improve work conditions, upgrading the buildings of the policestations.

Seeing that many police officers were working in different cities away from their family members, he started a new system that evaluated the policeman’s personal situation and work performance, so that the police officers can ask for transferring (调动) to a place closer to their families.

“It was thanks to him that my family could be reunited, and I haven’t even had the chance to express my gratitude to him.”one of the policemen said.
