Height is just one of the thousands of features (特征) your genes (基因) decide. In fact, because you have two parents, your genes provide you a height that usually lands somewhere between the height of each parent. If both your parents are tall, then most probably you will be tall, too, but if you have questions about how tall you’re going to be, ask your doctor if he or she can help you find it out.
But genes don’t decide everything. For example, eating an unhealthy diet can stop you from growing to your full potential (潜力). Getting plenty of sleep and enough exercise will help you grow to the expected (期待的) height.
No doubt (怀疑) you’re wondering how fast you should grow. It depends. There’s no perfect or right answer. Generally speaking, kids grow about 2 inches (6 centimeters) a year between age 3 and the time when they start puberty (when your body starts changing and becoming more grown up).
Your doctor will know how your growth has been going over the years. Two centimeters here and 2 inches there are not nearly as important as the height you’re at now, how you’ve been growing up to this point, and what other changes your body maybe going through.
Don’t be scared if you seem to have grown a lot in a very short time. Everyone has a growth spurt (高峰) during puberty. The age for starting puberty is about 10 for girls and about 11 for boys. But it can be earlier or later — between 7 and 13 for girls and 9 and 15 for boys.
You’ll usually begin to notice that you’re growing faster about a year or so after your body starts to show the first changes of puberty.

This is true. To keep healthy, we must have enough sleep. Experts(专家) say that adults(成人) should get seven to eight hours of sleep a night. Teenagers need nine to ten hours of sleep. And school-aged children may need more than ten hours of sleep. Children who do not have enough sleep can’t do their work very well. They won’t be wise and they may not become wealthy!
We also need exercise. Walking, running, swimming and playing games are all exercise. Exercise keeps us strong. It also helps the blood to move around the body. This is very important. Our blood takes the nutrition(营养) from food to all parts of our body.
The head also needs blood. So exercise that moves the blood to our head helps us think better!

The harness is tied to a parachute (降落伞) and you use the wind to fly. To paraglide, you usually need to go somewhere high, like a hill or mountain. The pilot will first make the parachute full of air by pulling it up like a kite, and then it’s time to run down the hillside until you reach a good speed to take off. Unless you have a special license to do it yourself, you will fly with a pilot.
I went paragliding in Peru’s Sacred Valley, from a mountain more than 3, 000 meters above sea level. The most difficult part of paragliding for me was not the flying, but the waiting. I started to feel nervous about watching others go ahead of me. But the pilot helped keep me composed. So I didn’t feel nervous.
On an average paragliding trip, you can expect to enjoy flying like a bird for 10 to 30 minutes. Then it’s time to land. I remember the pilot told me to get my legs ready, as landing on your legs is the safest way to land-just like a bird.
Paragliders have set some amazing records, like the highest flight (9, 946 meters) and the longest flight (9, 132 km). In 2020, a Canadian man named Benjamin Jordan became the first person to travel by paraglider from Mexico to Canada (not all in one go, though). He was inspired to do it because of the great migration (迁徙) of monarch butterflies. Each year, millions of these butterflies travel up to 4, 800 km to complete their journey!

Vivi is a classroom technology system (科技系统). A quarter of independent schools and some government schools have already used it. It has created a new emoji feature to encourage students to use the bright yellow faces.
The new feature lets students communicate with their teacher by using emojis—everything such as “happy”, “confident”, and “bored”.
St Andrews Lutheran College in Queensland took part in a Vivi emoji program last year. A teacher called Virginia Warner said the new emoji feature was helpful to students’ health and happiness.
“It’s a really wonderful technology,” she said. “The use of emojis is a good way for students to ask for help, especially if they are feeling sad in the classroom.”
“Students’ ability to learn has something to do with their emotional state (情绪状态).” she said. “We know a lot of communication happens through technology, and students feel comfortable and relaxed when they use emojis as a language.”
Natalie Mactier, CEO of Vivi, said that nothing could be more challenging than being a teacher. “When used in a smart way, technology can he powerful and useful in the classroom,” Ms. Mactier said. “More and more young people enjoy communicating and expressing their emotions through technology, so we are pleased to support them with the tools they need.”

Make a card about the size of a postcard and write two English letters L and R on it, L on the left and R on the right. First, hold the card about 80 cm away and you see both the letters. Then close your right eye and look at the letter R only with your left eye. And now, as you move the card slowly towards you, you’ll find the letter L disappearing. But if you move the card nearer to your face, the letter will be seen again. Now do the same experiment with your left eye closed, you’ll find the letter R disappearing.
Why does the letter disappear? It is because there is a blind spot on the eye. When the image (影像) of the letter falls on the blind spot, it won’t be seen. That is why either of the letters disappears.
