Anyone with a phone has probably dropped it in water or been caught in a rainstorm. And many seem to think that putting a wet phone in uncooked rice will save it. However, the technology company said it is a bad idea because tiny pieces of rice can get into the phone and cause damage.

So what should you do instead? If the phone is dropped in water, dry it with a clean cloth, even a shirt will do. Turn the phone off if you can. Remove (移除) the SIM card and cover. Take away the battery (电池), if possible. And let everything dry at room temperature, perhaps with a fan running. Since you cannot take an iPhone apart, Apple says to tap the phone against your hand with the phone facing down so water can get out.

Samsung, the biggest maker of Android phones, suggests using a cotton ball to get water out. Apple, however, advises against putting one inside iPhone. Both Apple and Samsung say to leave the phone out in an open area to dry. More importantly, do not use a hair dryer or put the phone in a fridge.

If your phone is dropped in seawater or a drink, Samsung advises to keep it in clean water for a few minutes. Doing that will remove any salt that could hurt the phone.

The phone makers say it is hard to know when phones are completely dry. But it will probably take a few days. Samsung says it is still a good idea to bring the phone in for service even if you can turn it back on again.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了生活中人们遇到尴尬处境后会有“羞愧综合症”以及如何去应对这种症状。

【推荐2】All of us may have experienced embarrassing(令人尴尬的)moments. It could have been the time when you pronounced a simple word wrong in class, wore your T-shirt backwards, or secretly(秘密地)tried to take a picture of someone while the flash was on.

Though these embarrassing moments don’t hurt us a lot, they come back from time to time and make us feel upset. Even if these moments may have faded after some time, we would always remember the feeling of strong embarrassment. In fact, these feelings may last for years. When these kinds of feelings return, they are known as a “cringe attack(羞愧综合症)”

I get a quite uncomfortable feeling when I think back on a party my parents took me to when I was younger. I ate a bowl of strawberries by myself. My parents shouted at me—in front of everyone—for being so selfish (自私的). From then on, every time I put a strawberry into my mouth, my brain just throws that embarrassing scene back.

Why do these “cringe attacks” still show up in our daily lives even though the events happened weeks, months, or even years ago? According to experts, our brains give special attention to feelings that can be easily noticed. The stronger the feeling is, the stronger the memory will be. If you have a highly emotional (情绪激动的)moment, your brain will try to catch it.

So how can we deal with this? Well, we can start by trying to be more objective(客观的)about our past selves. Consider that you are not alone in your embarrassment—everyone fails or makes silly, embarrassing mistakes. Instead of just trying to forget what we did, we should try to accept who we were at that moment and think about how we can change for the better.
