Huge Face Seen in a Cliff Walkers on a coastal path in Cornwall, England, have reported seeing a huge human face looking out at sea from the side of a cliff. Although it looks like it’s been carefully carved from the cliff, it’s probably the result of a recent rock fall. No one knows who flew the first kite. It was probably someone in China or perhaps Indonesia. Indonesian fishermen hung fishhooks(鱼钩) on kites and sent them out to sea to catch fish. Startin 2,000 years ago, Chinese farmers flew kites to welcome the New Year and bring good luck to Earth.
In China, people also used kites during wartime. One Chinese story tells how soldiers(士兵) put noisemakers on kites and flew them at night over the enemy(敌人) camp. The enemies were frightened by the noise and ran away.
About 1,300 years ago, Chinese travelers took kites to Japan. Soon kites filled the skies there. Kites reached Thailand about 700 years ago. During floods(水灾), Thai farmers flew kites over their fields. They hoped the kites would drive away the clouds and stop the rain. Over time, kites flew their way out of Asia. Today kites are a strong love all over the world. Kite fans meet at festivals in many parts of the world and have great fun.
Over the years, kites have also helped people understand the natural world. In 1749, for example, thermometers(温度计) were tied to kites to measure(测量) temperatures. In1906, cameras hanging from kites took pictures of San Francisco, California after an earthquake(地震). The photos helped people plan what to do.
Kites also helped inventors find out how to make airplanes. The Wright Brothers studied how kites flew, which helped them make the first successful airplane.
Since the ancient Chinese find set their kites into the air, people have loved flying kites Kites give us ways to celebrate, relax and explore. So go fly a kite! Enjoy the feeling of wonder that kite flyers have felt for centuries.

In the age of wooden boat shipping for thousands of years, the power of wooden boats on the river came from the body of the boatmen. Whenever they headed up against the river or when the boat crossed a shoal, the boatmen had to pull together. Moreover, the long journey was boring and boatmen needed something to relax, and the Chuanjiang Chants came into being.
Chuanjiang Chants are both technical and artistic. Boatmen control the direction of the boat just like a driver is responsible for that of a car. And chants are like the accelerator (油门) of a car, controlling the speed of the boat. Therefore, the chants can adjust (调整) the force of the boatmen through its rhythm, so that the ship can move forward smoothly. At the same time, the chants are always sung in a bright voice, a good tone, and a beautiful sound. Therefore, it is also an art.
However, with the development and popularity of modern ships, Chuanjiang Chants are likely to be forgotten by people, facing an endangered situation. Our county paid great attention to the protection of it and it was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) list. Hope that more and more people can get the chance to know the fantastic culture.

Gardeners did the experiment by themselves. They wrote down how the tomato plants grew before, during and after the experiment. And then they compared the results with other tomato plants.
“We are taking it very seriously even though a lot of people may think it is a joke. However, studies show that certain sounds do help plants grow better,” the gardeners told a reporter.
“We want to get different kinds of voices. Through this experiment, we hope to find the most plant-friendly human sound for plants to grow,” said the gardeners.
“The plants will listen to poems, stories and songs,” the gardeners added.
Now, let our plants enjoy beautiful music.

She then bought an 828-page book about creating apps and spent an hour or two every day learning to program. “It wasn’t difficult, because it was fun,” Du said. “It was different from what I learned at school.”
In January, Du was honored at a tech trade show (技术贸易展) in the United States for developing Bluejay, a smartphone app that helps to find missing people. Rescuers (救援者) can fly a driverless (无人驾驶) plane that can collect information, such as GPS, of those missing persons. That’s because the smartphone of a missing person can send signals to a chip (芯片) on the driverless plane through Bluetooth.
Du came up with the idea for Bluejay based on her own experience in 2015, when she had to wait alone in a quiet park in the evening because she couldn’t get a wireless signal (无线信号). She stayed in the dark park, worrying about wild animals. It took more than two hours until her father showed up. “I was thinking, ‘After I get out, I’m going to solve this problem,’” Du said. She then started the project and worked on it nearly every day for the next two months.
“I have more confidence in what I do now,” she said. “Getting some good news once in a while makes me feel good.”
