Art, to many people, is a human expression of creativity. But in recent years, you may have read news about AI creating its own art, such as paintings or writing poems. Some people worry that AI might someday replace (取代) artists. But this worry seems to be unnecessary, at least for now. Many artists today are turning AI into a useful tool. Instead of replacing artists, AI is bringing artists more possibilities.
A piece of music created by AI has recently attracted attention. AI was used to turn a virus (病毒) into a piece of nearly two-hour long music. The project was led by a scientist and he tried a special note (音符) in each amino acid (氨基酸) of the virus. The AI then translated these notes into music.
Listeners found the project unbelievable. “It allows me to see the virus in a new way.” said one listener. This surprising marriage between science and art could not be achieved without AI. As a scientist wrote, “AI helps artists play around in creative ways, making things possible beyond what they have ever thought before.”
AI can also take care of repetitive tasks for artists. For example, in the comic and animation (动画) industries, artists don’t need to color in black-and-white line drawings over and over again because now AI tools can help with such work. It could give artists room to try more creative activities by cutting down the time it takes.
As Peter Ward wrote for The Culture Trip, art of every kind has always been influenced by technology. AI can become a useful tool to bring changes to the art world if it’s welcomed but not feared.

But that may be changing with Nexi, a robot created by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Nexi can move its face to show anger, happiness or sadness. It can also raise its eyebrows (眉毛) to show surprise. | |

Now three companies are working together to use a 3D printer to create the first two-story 3D-printed house in the US.
Although 3D-printing has been around for a while, it hasn’t been used much for building houses. Now, that’s changing. Several 3D-printed houses have been built in the US, and more are planned. So far, no one in the US has 3D-printed a two-story house. This 3D-printed two-story house will be a large, 3-bedroom house.
Leslie Lok, who designed the house, says there are special challenges in printing a two-story house with concrete (混凝土). One of the biggest is the size of the machine needed for the building. The 3D printer in Houston (休斯敦的3D打印机) is massive. It weighs over 12 tons. Ms Lok says printing the house will take the huge machine about 330 hours. That’s about eight normal work weeks.
But the team isn’t in a rush. Though it’s a two-year project, the actual printing didn’t start until last July. The house is now about halfway finished.
They’re using the house as a “big laboratory” to learn more about 3D-printing houses. They want to see how the concrete reacts (反应) “under different weather conditions”. They also want to figure out (弄清楚) how to make 3D-printing faster and cheaper. Now, 3D-printing a house with concrete costs more than building a house with wood. That’s partly because the technology is new. The costs of 3D-printing houses will go down before long.
Ms Lok says that with 3D-printing, it’s easy to make each house different from other houses. That means that in the future, each house could be created specially for its owners.
But if you want to move into a 3D-printed house, you’ll have to wait. This one has already been sold.

A 12-year-old user named Elsa has about 2.7 million fans on Tik Tok. The girl has shared her dancing studies on Tik Tok since last July. One of the videos won her about one million fans.“I feel really glad to share happiness with people by short videos,” said Elsa.
To some other young people, they use short videos to have a quick look at the hot programs. “Because I don’t like to spend many hours watching a whole program, I hate waiting for a program to end, and I prefer to watch short videos of wonderful parts of hot programs,” said Wang Zhihao.
However, some young people feel bored with short videos.“Killing time is the main reason for me to watch short videos, and many short videos are almost the same, so I think they are not so useful or interesting. What’s more, I really don’t like the videos about strange and dangerous things,” said Wen Nan, another college student.
Recently, something else has appeared. Some videos are telling people what commodities are worth buying. Some short videos even sell bad commodities, and it is hard for customers to get their money back. So we should think twice before we want to buy the commodities by short videos.

Why can they do it so fast? Because 3D printing (打印) helps to make it. 3D printing not only builds a house with less time, but also costs less and is more environmentally (环境上) friendly. And there are different styles of 3D printed houses for people to choose.
3D printing is developing (发展) very fast. But there are some problems with 3D printed houses. First, the house “printed” out may not be strong enough. Second, while building houses layer by layer (逐层地), there may be some differences between layers. Some layers may be a little thinner or thicker than others. Finally, there are now fewer types of 3D printing materials (材料) for us to use.
However, the future of 3D printed houses is promising. In India, there are not enough houses. The country wants to use 3D printing to solve the problem. If successful, buildings by 3D printing may go popular. We can also use it to build offices and other buildings. NASA wants to use 3D printing to build something on Mars and the Moon.

Pandas are usually very heavy. Some of them can be about 1.5 meters tall and weigh (重) about 100 kilos. But pandas are very agile. They can climb trees easily.
Pandas have big teeth and they like eating bamboo. Every day, each grown-up (成年) panda eats about 15—30 kilos of bamboo and they usually spend 10—12 hours eating. Pandas also have free-time hobbies. Two of their hobbies are climbing trees and sleeping.

Some scientists believe that there are three types of memory—immediate, short-term and long-term.
Immediate memory holds information for less than a second, e.g. the name of a road you have just seen. Then it either forgets it or passes it into short-term memory.
Short-term memory can hold about seven items of information at a time, e.g. telephone numbers. It holds them for about 30 seconds. Then it either forgets them or passes them into long term memory.
Long-term memory can hold information for the whole of our lives. Some scientists believe that there are two types of long-term memory. One type remembers events, e.g. the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The other remembers knowledge, e.g. the names of countries or the meanings of words.
