How do you deal with the things you love? You probably take care of them and keep them safe. But that’s not what Cameron does. This fifth grader from America is sharing his love of books by giving them away.
In 2008, when Cameron heard about a family that lost everything in a house fire, he was looking for a way to help the family. He heard that they lost all of their future, so he came up with an idea to donate books to them. Later, he set up a program to give books away to people in need. Cameron collects books for young people of all ages and reading level (水平). He collects books for kids who are blind or with poor eyesight, too. Because he wants everyone to have books.
Cameron knows that books can help kids think about their future. They can help kids dream about what they might be when they grow up. Learning about new things through reading can give kids new interests.
Cameron wants to keep his program going and growing. Over the past seven years, he has given away more than 3000 books. He has also won many prizes for his work. His program has grown over the years, too. Last Christmas, Cameron was even able to give away toys and clothes.

As I was riding my bike home in the evening, I saw a big dirty dog, sad and lost, simply sitting in the middle of the road by a pedestrian crossing (人行横道). It seemed unsure of what to do as it lay down and stared at the passing traffic. Nobody seemed to notice the dog, only passing him by at a distance.
At first, I also crossed over to the other side, hoping that somebody else would notice and help the dog. But, realizing that the dog might suddenly get up and walk into traffic, I decided to do something to help the dog.
When the light changed, I saw my chance. I used my bike to guide the dog to a street corner to keep it safe from passing cars. Slowly but surely, I was able to encourage the dog to follow me until finally, we both got to the street corner. I messaged a dog helping group to let them know about where the dog is. Yet, by the time I turned to it again, the dog was gone.
Sometimes we don’t know what we will find or see in our daily lives. Still, what matters is how we deal with them. Although I am shy in these situations, I am glad I found the courage to help a dog in need, even if just for a moment.

My grandmother passed away at the age of 90. My mother and I went to her home and looked around a bit. It was the house where so many memories lived ... feeding birds in the backyard, rolling Easter eggs down the front hill, sitting on the grass playing cards and drinking lemonade. In the weeks and months after she died, it was so hard to be in the house without her.
She’d lived a simple life and hadn’t left much behind. We weren’t looking for money or anything valuable – we just wondered what kinds of things we might find.
In the living room, I saw grandma’s rocking chair. For as long as I could remember, she’d sit in that chair, knitting (编织) things and watching TV. I thought for a moment about taking it home with me, but it was far too big for my living room. Besides, I thought ... I’m not old yet. Why would I need a rocking chair?
Then my mom came in and looked at the same chair. “Ah, it’s mom’s rocking chair. You know, when I was a newborn, your grandmother would nurse me and put me to sleep while rocking in that chair. And when you were born, I did the same with you,” she said.
I had no idea about the chair’s history. For years, it stayed in our family and helped my mother and my grandmother as they dealt with the challenges of new motherhood. My husband and I had been talking recently about possibly having a child of our own ...
“I think I’ll take the chair home with me, if you don’t mind,” I said to my mother.
“Not at all,” she replied, with a knowing look in her eye.

One evening, Brownie’s family noticed that Brownie hadn’t come home. They went out to look for him but with no success. Brownie didn’t show up the next day, and by the next week, he was still missing.
Spotty went to Brownie’s house alone. He barked loudly. But Brownie’s family were too busy to care about him.
Finally, one morning Spotty refused to take “no” for an answer. He followed Ted, Brownie’s owner, everywhere he went. He barked, then ran toward a nearby empty lot and looked back, as if to say, “Follow me!”
Ted followed the dog across the empty lot. The little dog took the man to a tree a half mile from the house. There Ted found Brownie alive. One of his legs was caught in a trap (夹子). Ted wished he had come earlier.
Then Ted noticed something amazing. In a circle around the injured dog, he saw a lot of dog food. It was the remains of lots of meals.
