When looking at old chopsticks, most people will see nothing but waste (垃圾). But Felix Bock is different. He can make boxes, tables and other useful things out of them.
In 2016, Felix Bock studied at the University of British Columbia, Canada. He found people threw away about 100,000 pairs of chopsticks every day in Vancouver alone. He decided to do something to stop waste. So he started the company Chop Value in the same year. The company collected used chopsticks from restaurants, schools and shopping centers in Canada and the US. And then the company turned them into furniture and artworks. Now the company has recycled (再利用) 32 million pairs of chopsticks.
Bock hopes the idea behind Chop Value will help people to think about what waste is. “I believe every small action can help,” he said. “And I am happy that my business offers people a new way.” Hundreds of restaurants across North America pay some money to Bock for the recycling of their used chopsticks. But Bock doesn’t stop there. Now he is busy taking his business to more countries to set up factories for recycling local wood like chopsticks.
1. When did Bock set up Chop Value?2. Why did Bock set up Chop Value?
3. How did Chop Value recycle used chopsticks?
4. What do you think of Bock’s action? Why? Write 30 words or more.

Breakdancing is a street dance style that develops as part of the hip pop culture. It originated (起源于) in the Bronx in New York City in the 1970s. Breakdancing has become known to more people in China in recent years, especially after it was announced in 2020 that it would be a new event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The people who perform this style of dance are known as b-boys or b-girls. Liu Qingyi is one of them. In 2022 she became very famous at the age of 16 when she won a gold medal at Outbreak Europe. That gold medal also made her become the first Chinese b-girl to ever win the top-level break-dancing competition. Then more and more people knew about the young dancer.
Liu is also known as B-girl 671 because the numbers in Chinese are pronounced similarly to her name. She first saw street dance in her hometown, when she was only 10 years old. She felt deeply attracted by the performer’s cool dance. Liu also learned guitar, taekwondo (跆拳道) and boxing during her childhood. Her interest in tense activities then led her toward breakdancing. “I’ve been involved in many sports and hobbies, but found that breakdancing is my true love after I started learning it.” Liu said.
It was through dancing that dancing will be her lifetime career. “I’m super lucky already as it’s not easy to turn one’s hobby into a career. I will never stop exploring,” Liu added. “I hope I will be able to stay passionate (热情的) to dance as long as I can.

Our school has set up a group of “How to deal with the pollution of the river”, and I am in the group. Here is some of my advice on how to carry out the activity.
First, we should do some research to find out why there is so much pollution. We can ask our teachers and some experts for help. We can also find some information on the Internet.
Second, we should work out a report on the serious pollution of the river and hand it to the government. Also, we can show the citizens(市民) our opinions on how to deal with the pollution.
Third, we should set up some small groups to collect the waste in the river during the holidays. We should try to plant trees along the river and put up some posters to tell people not to pollute our environment so that more people can take part in saving the earth actively.
After all these steps, I think the pollution of the river will be less. And we'll learn a lot from these activities at the same time.

Unfortunately,in many parts of the world, man has not realized that the third of these services is the most important. In his eagerness to make money from trees,(1)______________,only to find that without them he has lost the best friends he had.
This does not only mean that man will have fewer trees. The results are even more serious: for where there are trees, their roots break up soil allowing the rain to sink in and also bind(固定)the soil, thus preventing it from being washed away easily;but where there are no trees, the rain falls on hard ground and flows away, causing floods and carrying away the rich top-soil. When the top-soil is gone, nothing remains but worthless desert.
Two thousand years ago,a rich and powerful country cut down its trees to build warships, with which to gain itself and empire. It set up the empire, but without its trees,(2)_______________. When the empire fell to pieces, the home country found itself faced by floods and starvation(饥荒).
Even though a government realizes the importance of a plentiful supply of trees,it is difficult for it to persuade(说服)the villager to see this. The villager wants wood to cook his food, and he can earn money by making charcoal or selling wood to the townsman. He is usually too lazy or too careless to plant and look after trees. So unless the government has a good system of control,or can educate the people, the forests will slowly disappear.

The world’s animal populations(种群)have reduced by more than two thirds since 1970, according to a recent research from the World Wildlife Fund(WWF).
The London group provided information on 32, 000 wildlife populations which included more than 5, 000 species. The researchers(研究人员)found that group sizes had gone down by 69 percent in average(平均). They said the loss of forests, human development of the environment, pollution, and climate change were great causes of the loss. Land-use change is still the most dangerous to wildlife. However, the researchers added, “If we cannot limit warming to 1.5℃, climate change was likely to become the main cause of biodiversity loss in the coming years.”
Wildlife populations in Latin American and the Caribbean Sea area were greatly influenced. The study showed a 94 percent drop in those areas in over 50 years. Wildlife populations in river and lake habitats(栖息地)went down the most. Freshwater populations have gone down by an average of 83 percent since 1970. For example, one population of pink river dolphins in the Amazon River area of Brazil fell by 65 percent between 1994 and 2016.
The findings are a warning of a larger system problem. If the number of one species(物种)goes down, there will be a bad influence on others. The situation will make the ecosystem(生态系统)worse. Humans depend on a proper climate, suitable weather conditions, better farmland and fisheries(渔业)to develop. However, now the problems are serious enough to threaten(威胁)many systems to last normally.
Our future depends on preventing the loss of nature, just as it depends on the climate change. Everyone, from oneself to companies and to governments, should play an important role to improve the situation. If nothing is done, the numbers of the wild animals will be smaller and even none left. And at last, the problem will threaten the ecosystems on which we depend.
1. What is the most dangerous to wildlife populations now?2. Why will the ecosystem be worse?
3. What does the writer tell us to do according to the passage?
4. How does the writer explain the falling of freshwater wildlife ?
5. What should we do since the environment will make the ecosystem worse? (请自拟一句话作答)
I’m Montano. My parents always told me that I couldn’t dance, because it was a girl’s sport. But I never gave up my interest and I really wanted to become a dancing star. I practised secretly, learning from books, movies and shows. However, without my parents’ support, this dream seemed impossible to achieve (实现) .
One summer, my little sister Mary was going to have dance lessons. Luckily, I was asked to take her to the lessons. What a good chance to learn dancing! One day, Mary asked me to dance with her in the school dancing competition, because none of the boys in her class would like to do that. They thought she was slow. “You can be a good dancer!” I encouraged her. “Let’s show those people that they are wrong!” In the following months, we practised every evening, still hiding from our parents.
Finally, a big day came. I become nervous when I saw my parents watching the competition. But as the music began, I took a deep breath and tried to put my heart into the dance. We moved perfectly, shining with pride. From the cheering of the crowd, I was sure we had done a good job. When we got off the stage (舞台), my father came towards me. He put his hand on my shoulder. “Well done, son. I have to say you are born to dance. Go for it and make us proud of you.”
Everyone has to go through lots of difficulties before he achieves his dream. I know that the road ahead won’t be easy, but I will not be afraid any more.

3. What does everyone have to go through before he achieves his dream?
