Sometimes people come into your life and you know at once that they are sure to be there. They serve you on purpose, teach you a lesson or help you find out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be: your classmates, neighbors, teachers, long-lost friends or even a real stranger. But you know that every moment they influence your life in some serious ways.
Sometimes things happen to you. They may seem terrible, painful and unfair at first. But later you get to know that without overcoming those difficulties, you would have never got to know your further ability and strength. Everything happens for a reason and nothing happens by chance or with good or bad luck.
The people you meet influence your life, and the success and failure you experience create who you are. Even the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most poignant but the most important ones.
Enjoy every day even every moment, for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people you have never talked to before, and really listen to them. You should set your sights high, hold your head up, and believe you are a great one.
You can make anything you wish. Create your own life and then go out and live it.

Lucky people always use their time wisely and make the most of every day because time is flying. One day, you are 16 years old and have your whole life in front of you. Then suddenly you wake up in 40 years old. Yes, this is how quickly time flies. So don’t waste it on meaningless things.
Besides, lucky people believe that they are lucky, so they face life hopefully. They are always in a good position and see only challenges, not problems in front of them. The ability to be active without turning a blind eye to problems is of great value.
Lucky people are not ruled by stress and try to keep calm in all conditions. This help them apply their emotional (情感的) strength properly and remain calm no matter what happened. Luckily, the ways for dealing with feelings and stressful situations are available for everyone, and with some practice, you can have them.
As you can see, luck is more about a person’s attitude (态度). Lucky people are believed to be more active and stronger, and you can learn from their habits and behaviors. Next time when you want to complain your bad luck, please change your attitude. Maybe that is a good thing.

It was a cross-country flight. The plane had just taken off. One passenger wanted to take his medicine. He told a flight attendant that he needed a cup of water. The flight attendant told him that she would bring him water in ten minutes.
Thirty minutes later, the passengers ring for service sounded again. The flight attendant suddenly realized that she had made a terrible mistake. She was kept so busy that she forgot to bring the passenger water. She hurried over to him with a cup of water, but he refused it.
In the hours that followed, each time the flight attendant passed by the passenger, she would ask him, with a smile, if he needed help. The passenger, however, paid no attention to her.
The next morning, the flight landed. When he was going to get off the plane, the passenger asked the flight attendant to hand him the passengers' booklet (小册子). The flight attendant felt depressed (沮丧的). She knew he would write some sharp words. However, with a smile. she handed he booklet to the passenger.
After all the passengers had got off the plane, the night attendant nervously opened the booklet. A smile came to her lips. Do you know why? Well, the passenger had written, During the night, you asked me if I needed help twelve times in all. I didn't need any help, but how could I refuse your twelve sincere smiles?

A hungry fly speeds through a forest. It smells nectar(花蜜) and lands on a green leaf. It starts to drink the sweet liquid. Suddenly, the fly’s world turns green. The two sides of the leaf close against each other. Long green teeth lock together around it. The fly has been caught by a Venus flytrap (食蝇草). There is no escape (逃脱).
Unlike most plants, the Venus flytrap is carnivorous, which means it eats meat. And it is perhaps the most famous killer plant. However, scientists have wondered for a long time how it hunts and eats. Only until recently did they start to find it out: After years of study, plant scientist Alexander Volkov believes he now knows the Venus flytrap’s secret. “This,” says Volkov, “is an electrical plant.”
There are three small hairs along each of the Venus flytrap’s two leaves. When an insect touches a hair, it creates an electrical sign in the leaf. The insect can keep on feeding—-for now. But if it touches another hair within 20 seconds, the plant will take action, shutting its famous trap. The bristles (硬毛) on the edges of the leaves work like jail bars to prevent insects from making an escape. This system allows the plant to tell the difference between a drop of water, for example, and a living thing. And that probably keeps the plant from wasting time on raindrops or other things that aren’t its food.
Once caught, an insect has little chance of being alive. The Venus flytrap now lets out a different liquid-one that slowly eats away at the insect. Ten days later, the plant’s leaves open again and the parts of the insect that couldn’t be digested (消化) fall out. The Venus flytrap is ready for its next meal.
This is just one of the interesting biological peculiarities (特性) of the Venus flytrap, scientists are still working hard to explore more about this mysterious plant.

Germany
Thanks to its industrial (工业的) past, in Germany you are expected to arrive at least ten minutes earlier for any planned meeting.
In Germany, being on time is risky (有风险的) enough because your hosts will probably already be there waiting, wondering how on earth (竟) you could be so stupid. What will you do if anything unexpected happens, like heavy traffic or a sudden rain? So, remember to arrive early in Germany.
Saudi Arabia
Some countries care little about time and Saudi Arabia is one of them, It’s because of their long history of desert living where time is not the first thing to think about. It could be that it’s too hot to do anything on time. So don’t expect them to be on time. Moreover, looking at your watch during an event is even considered as bad manners. So don’t get angry with them, either.
Ghana
Most meeting times can be changed, even if an exact time is given, Ghanaians are very relaxed and easygoing. They think that if everyone is late, then no one is late. Even when people wear masks, they can be recognized. Now, a similar technology, known as facial detection(探测), is entering a new field: the business of advertising(广告).
Such systems are growing through tests in a small number of stores. One facial detection system can judge a person’s “happiness” or “fear” level. That helps businesses see how people feel as they look at products or advertisements in the store. Another system can detect whether someone is wearing eyeglasses. If so, stores can send advertisements for new glasses to him.
Facial detection technology is also placed inside some large advertising boards. Cameras in those boards can detect information like people’s ages and five levels of feelings from “very happy” to “very unhappy”. Supporters of the technology say it could improve buyers’ experience by showing products they might like or by offering them products at lower prices.
Some are against the idea of using such systems. Pam Dixon, the head of a privacy(隐私)group, is one of them. She thinks ________. For example, a business could raise the price of a product according to a person’s age and feelings. However, one store testing the technology explained they won’t store people’s information like names or ages. And the advertising board system makers said it didn’t keep any personal information or record any videos.
