Many teenagers want to look cool. But not everyone can afford to keep up with the changing fashion trends (潮流). Chloe Murray, an eighth-grader at Jefferson Middle School in the US, realized this problem and started a charitable clothes closet (慈善衣橱) to help her peers.
Her school was for the idea too. The school let her use a room for the project. Murray’s classmates joined her as well. When the charitable clothes closet, Chloe’s Closet, opened, it was filled with trendy clothes for girls and boys to help students look their best. “Confidence is a real problem in middle school, especially when it comes to clothing,” Murray told the Chicago Tribune, a daily newspaper in Chicago, US.
Where are the clothes from? Many people from the school’s community and neighboring schools gave away used and new clothes. The clothes closet is only open after school. Students can “buy” these clothes by earning “money” when they turn in their schoolwork on time, make corrections on homework, take part in a school activity or express helpfulness to their peers and teachers. Since the first week in March, about 100 items have been “sold” to students.
“If you provide children with basic needs, such as clothing, they will be better able to focus on the learning material rather than pay too much attention to what they are wearing,” said Shannon Arko, a language teacher at the school, about the closet. “Feeling good about yourself translates into a better learning experience overall.”

Everyone started getting off the train and an old woman saw that I was confused and stressed. (I had to catch an overnight train to Rome, and I was flying home from there). She could speak some English and told me that an accident had happened on the tracks (轨道). She asked me where I was trying to get to, then went and talked to some workers, and came back to tell me that we’d have to hop (换乘) trains three or four times to get there.
I was really glad she was heading the same way because it would have been impossible for me to figure it out on my own (自己弄清楚). So we went from one train station to the next, getting to know each other along the way. She was really the sweetest woman. It was a 2.5-hour journey in total, and when we made it to the final destination (目的地) , we got off and said our goodbyes. I had made it just in time to catch my train to Rome. She told me she had a train to catch as well. I asked her how much farther she had to go and it turned out (结果是) that her home was two hours back the other way. She had jumped from train to train and travelled the whole just to make sure that I made it. I was in shock. A woman spent her whole day sitting on trains and taking her hours away from her home just to help out a confused (迷惑的) tourist visiting her country.
No matter how many countries I visit, I’ll always say the most beautiful country in the world is Switzerland.

Lai Yuanyuan, 30, comes from a family from the village of Fule in Rong’an, Guangxi.
Like many other people in the village, her parents used to sell their farm produce at a low price because it was difficult for them to get to the market.
After coming back from her studies in Korea in 2018, Lai began to consider what she could do to improve the living standard(水平) of local farmers and help them increase their income.
Lai decided to make her idea come true when she found that their future must depend on live commerce(贸易) and the fast growing express delivery(快递) industry.
Therefore, she set up her own online shop and let technicians(技术人员) make a brand of local kumquats in 2019. Then she started to sold farm produce through live streaming which makes a direct way for the customers to trade with the farmers. In this way, they can greatly reduce the selling steps. Besides, live streaming is really easy to learn for the farmers.
With the improvement of kumquats’ quality, the turnover(营业额) of her online shop was up to 20 million yuan in 2020.
Thanks to her efforts, now local people have a good market and become richer than before.

Ten years ago, there were not any teaching buildings or a library in our school. The playground was so small that we could only play basketball there.
Now great changes have taken place in our school in the past ten years. There are three modern teaching buildings and there are four modern computer classrooms. We have computer classes every week. On the left side of the school stands a modern lab building. On the right side of the school there is also a modern building—the library. In the library, there are 20 thousand books and magazines. We can go to the library to borrow books and magazines at any time. We have built a new playground. It is much bigger than before. We can play not only basketball but also football and many other sports there. We usually take a walk or chat with our classmates after lunch or supper in the playground. There are a lot of flowers and trees in and around our school. We always feel very happy.
In a word, our school is more and more beautiful and modern. We love our school.

Both my wife and I are running lovers. I usually run on the track (跑道) in my neighbourhood. Most people walk on the track, so I am faster than them. My speed seems amazing to the walkers and I often pass by them twenty or more times around the track. This makes me feel proud.
One day, a short man came. He didn’t look like much of a runner. I saw him get out of the car and warm up before running when I passed by two walkers. He started running a few metres ahead of me. He was fast but I tried to catch up with him. I had someone to compete with. But after a lap (圈). I fell behind him and had great difficulty in breathing. After two laps, my foot began to hurt, so I had to slow down and began to run at my usual speed. This time I could breathe again without sounding like I had a lung disease (肺病) and the pain in my foot went away. In a very short time, he was far ahead. He was too fast for me to follow.
That day, I learned several lessons. In life, there will always be those slower and faster. Some have natural talent (天赋), and some have trained harder. Don’t judge the capacity of a person by how he or she looks.
The point is that we each have our own speed. When we are trying to keep up, we often end up trying to keep up. We often end up hurting ourselves and being out of breath. Slow down or speed up, but run your race to your best. Don’t run at all when you should be walking. Don’t walk when you should be running.

I had spent seven happy years in the world with the attention of those around me. But when Rohan was born, life changed. Suddenly I had to share my toys and there were no more bedtime stories or my own choice of food.
Finally, I felt my anger at my brother. The poor baby had no idea what had made me so unhappy. Maybe he found me strange, the only person in this house who did not like him. Whatever the reason was, he loved following me around. However, I seldom talked to him and always asked him to leave me alone.
Then all that changed. I hardly remember everything of the days six years ago, but I do remember that I was feeling very angry.
Somehow my feet led me to my brother’s bed. My hand, completely free from my mind, reached through the bars(护栏). At once, he reached his small hand and softly touched mine. And that was all I needed.
