Make It a Good Day
Mom and Dad are going out today, and you’re in for a whole day of fun. However, Mom leaves you with a list of “duties”—finishing your homework, playing the violin and tidying up your messy wardrobe (衣柜). You also really want to play video games and read comics (漫画). There’s so much to do! It’s time to make a plan.
Make a to-do list A to-do list is like a note for you. Write down all the things you want to do or need to finish. It helps you organize your day and makes sure you don’t forget important things. What’s on your list today? Maybe it will look like this. | doing homework; reading books.
playing outside; eating yummy fruits; having at healthy lunch.
tidying up my wardrobe; calling my grandparents.
practicing the violin; doing some painting
playing video games; hanging out with friends.
Put your list in order! Now, let’s think about what to do first. Put the most important things at the top, like homework before playtime. Give them stars so you won’t forget. This way, you can check off the important things as you do them. | *Finishing homework *Practicing the violin *Calling grandparents *Eating some fruits *Tidying up my wardrobe | Do you often spend too much time on one thing? Self-awareness is an ability to see yourself clearly. You may know that you love playing an instrument because you’re good at it, and music makes you happy. Or you know you prefer watching TV on your own because it helps you relax. And it also means understanding how your thoughts, feelings and behaviour (行为) can influence other people.
Knowing what you like, dislike and more about yourself allows you to be wise about friendships, schoolwork and social life. It helps build confidence (信心). Being self-aware doesn’t mean only thinking of yourself. By understanding your own feelings, you have more understanding of other people too.
A good way to learn about anything is to ask questions. Ask yourself questions that start with “What” instead of “Why”. So if you don’t understand why you keep arguing (争论) with a friend, ask yourself what you disagree on instead of why you’re arguing. If you’re wondering whether you like a book, ask yourself what were the last three books you loved and what you liked about them. To recognize your own likes and dislikes is a good way to learn more about yourself.
Learning to be more self-aware is a skill, and this means you learn it as you grow. So don’t be afraid of taking risks. And encourage yourself to try out new things, like playing a new sport or listening to different music. Learn more about yourself and bring out the best in you.

At a science museum in Canada, you can feel your hair stand on end as harmless electricity passes through your body. At the Children’s Museum in New York, you can play an African drum. There are no “Do Not Touch” signs in some other museums in the USA.
More and more museum directors (馆长) have realized that people learn best when they can become part of what they are seeing. In many science museums, the visitors are encouraged to touch, listen, and experiment so as to find scientific rules for themselves.
The old museums have been changing and the government is encouraging the building of new, modern museums. One cause of all these changes is the growing number of young people in the population. They see things in a new and different way. They want art that they can take part in. The same is true of science and history.
