I was surprised when I was told that in China, winter vacation is as long as nearly a month. In most American schools, winter vacation is two weeks long, from Dec. 20 to Jan. 4, just long enough to include Christmas holidays and the beginning of a new year. My winter break included traveling to see family, preparing for the next term of school, and throwing small holiday parties with a few close friends. Of all these activities, my favorite part is winter parties.
In winter parties guests all travel to the host’s house. Families and friends usually bring food and games with them to share with the host. Since each guest brings one kind of food to the party, there is always a very large amount to eat!
We often play games in the parties. My favorite game is called “White Elephant Gift Exchange”. The term “white elephant” means a gift that is useless. In the game, everyone wraps up a useless and usually funny gift, and then they put the presents together. People take turns to pick out a random (随机的) present. The most interesting ones that I have seen are a lamp shaped like a leg, and a poster that says “Cats are like potato chips; you can’t have just one!”
Having fun together makes family and friends closer to each other, and that’s why I love winter parties so much.

The Spring Festival
Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival, is the most important festival for Chinese people.

It’s easy for us to understand why every runner wants to run faster than others in running races. But you will be surprised to know a runner named Peter Green has won many people’s hearts because of his slowing down to help another runner in a race.
