【推荐2】What do you do with the things you love? You probably take care of them and keep them safe. That’s not what Cameron Payne does. This fifth grader from North Carolina is sharing his love of books by giving them away.

In 2008, Cameron was looking for a way to help Iris community when he heard about a family who lost everything in a house fire. He was sad that all of their books were destroyed, and he wanted to find a way to help them. That’s when he created his program, which gives books away to people in need.

Cameron collects books for young people of all ages and reading levels. He collects books for kids who are blind or low vision, too because he wants everyone to have books.

Cameron knows that books can help kids think about their future. They do this by helping kids dream about what they might be when they grow up. Learning about new things can give kids new interests. Seven years later, Cameron is still giving away books.

Many of the books he gives away were given to him by others, but Cameron’s grandmother also shops for books that don’t cost a lot. She buys books that are new or that look new. In addition to working with schools, Cameron and his grandmother give books to children in places near their home, such as hospitals, libraries, and day camps.

Cameron wants to keep his program going and growing. Over the past seven years, he has given away more than 3,000 books. He has also won many prizes for this work. His program has grown over the years, too. Last Christillas, Cameron was even able to give away toys and clothes.

【推荐3】In a community (社区) in Changsha, there is a special hair salon (理发店). The owner is 71-year-old Tang Jinlian.

The salon is open from 8:30 a.m. to noon, serving around 10 people every day. Most of them are people living a poor life and old people from the neighborhood. Tang only asks for three yuan for each haircut. When people try to give her more money, she never accepts it.

There’s a story behind Tang’s hair salon. Tang’s daughter became seriously ill (生病) at the age of three. At that hard time, Tang and her daughter got a lot of help from others. In order to return the love to others, Tang learned how to cut hair and hoped to serve others.

In 2004, Tang set up a hairdressing stall (理发摊) at a vegetable market. But it was too small and few people wanted to come. Finally, the community workers helped her. In 2015,   they turned a garage(车库) into a hair salon for Tang to use.

Tang said, “In the past, many people helped me. Now I want to help more people.”

Kevin has an interesting hobby. He likes collecting tropical fish(热带鱼). He keeps his hobby for seven years. Now he is fourteen. There is a big aquarium in his room. There are many fish in it.

Kevin often travels around the world with his family. He loves it because he can see the underwater world in many places. Under the water, he can see lots of tropical fish. Sometimes he can see sharks(鲨鱼). He wants to keep one or two small sharks in an aquarium, but he can’t do it at home. So Kevin goes to help in the zoo on the weekend. There he can see a lot of sharks and some other big fish. Kevin likes working in the zoo because he can work with his favorite animals and learn more about them.

【推荐2】Last summer vacation, I went to the famous Angkor Wat with my mother. Built in the 12th century, it is an iconic temple complex (建筑群) located near the city of Siem Reap in Cambodia, and the largest religious monument in the world. The word “ Angkor ” means “capital city” in the Khmer language, while the word “Wat” means “temple”.

To reach the impressive site, we had to walk along a very long stone road, across a moat protecting the complex, and through grassland. On the way, I met local children begging for money, and I gave them some candies.

Angkor Wat is laid out symmetrically (对称) on tiered platforms that climb to the central tower, which rises to a height of about 65 meters. Many of its architectures (建筑) have one thing in common: They all have many steep steps. According to our tour guide, the steep steps stand for a religious meaning that people have to go through many hardships to get to heaven.What impressed me most was sculptures（雕塑）at the site which can be seen on almost all of its surfaces, columns and roofs. There are scenes from Indian myth, featuring a collection of animal and human figures, including Hindu gods or spirits, lions, snakes, winged dragons, and dancing girls.

In 1992, Angkor Wat was named a UNESCO World Heritage site. Later it became even better known when the blockbuster Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (《古墓丽影》) was filmed there. Since then, Angkor Wat has been high on the list of must-see sites for travelers around the world.

Cambodians must be proud of preserving their cultural heritage so well.

We live in Bedford, a town near London. My father is a hard-working pilot, so he doesn’t have much time to look after us. When I was a kid, my mum liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular, when she had made breakfast food after a long, hard day at a hospital.

On that evening so long ago, my mum placed a plate of eggs, sausage and terribly burnt biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone notices. Yet all my dad did was reach for a biscuit, smile at my mum and ask my brother and me how we had been doing at school. I don’t remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him put butter and jelly on that biscuit and eat every bite!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mum apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I will never forget what he said, “Honey, I love burnt biscuits.”

Later that night, I went to kiss my dad good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burnt. He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Your mum is really tired after a hard day’s work. Besides, a little burnt biscuit could never hurt anyone. We have been married for 17 years. She always cooks for me. Don’t put the key to your happiness in someone else’s pockt but into your own.”
