Though times have changed, falling asleep in class is still a common occurrence (常事) among teenagers.
Why do students sometimes fall asleep in class? An obvious reason is lack of sleep. However, there are also causes for getting too little sleep. However, there are also causes for getting too little sleep. Homework is a daily occurrence for most students, one that can take three to four hours per night. A teenager who wants to be able to take part in any activity besides homework must stay up late to fit everything in. Club activities, sports, computer-game playing, and TV viewing, for example, all contribute to (促成) teens having less time for both homework and sleep. Sometimes teens lack sleep because of after-school jobs that are taken on to earn extra money for college, family expenses, or simply for clothes.
Physical problems are another factor that can cause students to fall asleep in class. For example, insomnia, which may keep a student up at night, causing exhaustion (疲惫不堪) during class hours, is a serious problem that may require medical attention. Medical evidence also supports the idea that each person has a body clock that helps to decide his or her sleep pattern. Unluckily, these body clocks do not always work according to school timetables.
The effects of falling asleep in class can be quite serious. First of all, sleeping in class is not a good way to endear (使受喜爱) yourself to teachers. In addition, it is highly possible that other students may make jokes about those who sleep in class. However, the most harmful effects of sleeping in class is missing out on important points. In the long run, sleepers may end up failing classes.
Since teens are probably not going to deal with the problem, falling asleep in class will probably remain an all-too-common occurrence. It will continue until more teens find a way to balance their personal and social lives with school and work, while still finding enough time to sleep.

Hi, I’m Jim. I come from Canada. I’m 12 years old this year. Do you want to know about my school life?
Every day I get up early. I usually get up at five fifty and then I do some outdoor activities for about an hour. At seven o’clock I eat breakfast. And at half past eight I walk to school because my school is near my house. From nine o’clock in the morning to four o’clock in the afternoon I’m at school. I get home at half past five and then I do my homework for an hour. At six thirty I eat dinner with my family. After dinner I take a walk and watch TV for some time. I must go to bed at half past nine, because I need to get up early the next morning.

“Yeah, I want to clean up the environment, but what can I do? One person can’t make a difference,” Some people may say.
It is hard for one person to make a change, but when all the “one persons” get together, something meaningful can be done. You can start by getting all the “one persons” together in your school and set up your school environmental club!
In our school, our club started because we wanted to clean up the earth. We realized the movement had to begin with cleaning up the environment closest to us.
One project our club started was a clean-up of our school’s outdoor campus(校园). We hated the amount of pollution we found around our school. So we went to pick up trash during lunch and after school. We put the trash on display because we wanted everyone to enjoy the garbage artwork we created.
Another project we started was recycling old Christmas trees. We advertised this new program at local Christmas tree stores. After Christmas we also asked our neighbors if we could replant their still-living trees. We planted them in some local parks.
In the months to come we have a number of projects planned. We hope to set up our paper recycling program again which was put off because of limited storage space. We have planned another outdoor campus clean-up this spring. We will also make reusable hall passes to take the place of the wasteful paper ones.
So now that you have some ideas for your school’s environmental club, get started. Let’s show the world what a difference kids can make. We look forward to seeing you carry out your wonderful ideas.

Dear Frank,
I meet a problem.Can you help me?
A week ago, Mrs. Smith asked me to play a role in this year’s talent show. It sounded terrible, because it was not easy for me to stand on the stage(舞台).(3)实际上,我比班里其他孩子都内向严肃一些.In the following days,I practiced my words for at least two hours every day.
I really wanted to do well in the show. The day finally came. I put on my best yellow dress. I stood on the stage waiting for my turn to speak. I said all my words and I didn’t make a mistake(错误).The only problem was that my voice(声音) was very low. The next day, lots of students at school shouted to me, “The girl ruined (毁掉) Mrs. Smith’s show!”I felt so sad.
(4)What should I do to bring out the best in me?
Yours,
Ann

【推荐1】Do you know the idea of game literacy (素养)? Literacy is the ability to read, write, speak and listen in a way that lets us communicate and learn about the world. Game literacy on the other hand means people are able to access (接触), understand, critically evaluate (批判性地评价) and even create games.
On Feb 13, a report on video game literacy among young Chinese people was released by the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association (CADPA).
The report showed that Chinese teenagers’ game literacy has improved, with the overall score reaching 81.38 out of 100. For example, more than 60 percent of teenagers can identify (识别) whether the information in games follows historical facts or reality. And 55.3 percent can recognize bad information. Over 75 percent of teenage gamers also have a strong awareness (意识) of the negative impact (负面影响) of games, and have a sense of self-control while playing games. They have limited their playing time to three hours a week.
Still, there are gender (性别) and regional gaps (地区差异) in game literacy. Boys, who are usually more interested in games, have better game literacy than girls. Teenagers in first-and second-tier cities perform better than the students in rural areas. Another problem is that teenagers are short of awareness of how to protect privacy (隐私). It’s easy for them to share personal information with other gamers.
To improve the situation, experts suggest highly promoting the idea of game literacy. It’s necessary for family, school and community to work together. They can combine (结合) literacy education with family, schools and public activities. More attention should be paid to less-developed areas to bridge the game literacy gap as well.

However, today, more and more people are choosing “green” and expecting that the products they buy should be safe for the environment. Before they buy a product, they ask questions like these: “Will this soap be bad for the environment” “Can this metal container be reused or can it only be used once?”
Over 20,000 people took part in a web survey (调查) on buying environmentally-friendly products. Among them, 8129 people say that they now consider the environmental safety of a product before they buy it. That is to say, companies must change the way they make and sell their products to make sure that the products are “green”.
A few years ago, it was impossible to find green products in supermarkets, but now there are hundreds. Some supermarket products carry labels to show that they are green. Some companies have made the clean and safe products their main selling point in advertisements.
The growing need for a safer and cleaner environment is making companies rethink how they do business. The public will no longer accept the old idea of “buy it, use it, throw it away, and forget it”. As a result, the companies have to take action.

【推荐3】The world is not hungry, but it is thirsty. It seems strange that nearly 3/4 of the earth is covered with water while we say we are short of(短缺) water. Why? Because about 97% of water on the earth is sea water which we can’t drink or use for watering plants directly(直接地). Man can only drink and use the 3% of the water that comes from rivers and lakes. And we can’t even use all of that, because some of it has been polluted(污染).
Now more water is needed. The problem is: Can we avoid a serious water shortage later on? Firstly, we should all learn how to save water. Secondly, we should find out the ways to reuse it. Scientists have always been making study in this field. Today, in most large cities, water is used only once and then runs to the sea or rivers. But it can be used again. Even if every large city reused its water, still there would not be enough. What could people turn to next?
The sea seems to have the best answer. There is a lot of water in the sea. All that needs to be done is to get the salt out of the sea water. This is expensive, but it’s already in use in many parts of the world. Scientist are trying to find a cheaper way to do it. So you see, if we can find a way out, we’ll be in no danger of drying up.
