Grey may be the popular decor(装饰) color of the moment, but painting your bedroom grey actually stops you from falling asleep easily. Besides, reds, greens and purples can prevent a peaceful night’s sleep according to Natalie Armstrong, a sleep expert at mattress(床垫)company Sealy. She gives reasons.
★ Grey is usually used to represent(代表) sadness and loneliness, and it can send sad messages to our brain.
★ Too bright colors can put your brain into a state of high excitement, which can last long after you’ve turned off the light.
So what color is good for sleep? Blue. 如果你正打算粉刷卧室的墙,蓝色是最好的选择。Blue is easily received by certain cells(细胞)in your eyes. The cells then send a message directly to your brain, telling that you’re in a peaceful environment where you can fall asleep easily.
As we all know, smart phones can stand in the way of sweet dreams. Holding your smart phone or watching your favourite TV show in bed can put you in another “blue”environment. However, these blue lights are harmful, because they disturb(扰乱)our regular sleep-wake cycle and hurt our eyes.
Anyway, the color of bedroom walls is not the only and main reason to influence our sleep, but it really makes a difference. It is important to develop a good and healthy sleeping habit.

Different colours have different senses
There are many colours in the nature. But do you know if a colour has weight?I think you'll say "no". But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don't believe, you may do a small experiment(实验).
First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover the box. Third, wrap(包裹)one box with a red piece of paper, the other with a white piece of paper. OK. Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.
Why do you think so?A scientist found that different colours have different weights in a man's mind. So he did some tests and at last he got the result. That is to say, every colour has its own weight in our mind and their order is the same. The heaviest colour is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white.
The scientist told us that colours also have smell. Can you smell the colour?Of course not. Then why did the scientist say so?That is because every colour stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength(波长). It reaches our brain through sense organs(感觉器官).
According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colours they like, and refuse the colours they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colours you like. Or you'll be nervous or even get ill. For example,if you stay in a room with red windows, wallpapers and furniture for two hours, you'll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you'll feel you have been there fur only an hour. Another example,if a person walks out of a red room and into a blue room, his temperature will fall. That means our body temperature will change with different colours.

Mexico
In Mexico, bringing an expensive gift to someone’s home is a no-no. It could be seen as a bribe (贿赂). For local people, some simple things like flowers are good gifts. But you shouldn’t take along red flowers, because in Mexican culture, they symbolize death and can be connected with witchcraft (巫术).
The US
Americans have a tradition of tipping (给小费). You can tip waiters, taxi drivers, hotel doormen…nearly anyone with a service job.
Pay attention when you talk with Americans. Questions like “How old are you?” may be common between friends. But as tourists in the US, it is not polite to ask people’s age.
Britain
British people are known for queuing (排队). From the supermarket to the underground, queues are very common in Britain. Usually, it takes a British person six months of their life in queues. If you jump the queue in Britain, you may make them angry.
Japan
You should never wear shoes indoors in Japan. When visiting someone’s home, it is rude to enter with shoes on. Shoes should be taken off at the door and replaced with indoor slippers (拖鞋). This is also the same when you try clothes on in a clothes shop. You should take off your shoes before going into the fitting room (试衣间). There are indoor shoes prepared for customers inside.

Last week, my father and I went back to my hometown Zibo in Shandong to try Zibo barbecue. Recently, the local food has become so popular that people all over China travel there to taste it.
On the way to Zibo, my father told me a story. Last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of college students were stuck in Zibo. The local government helped students to get through that period and offered a great barbecue dinner when the quarantine (隔离) was over. The government officers also invited the students to come back to Zibo again when spring came. I was moved when I heard this.
At 5 p.m., we arrived at the restaurant. My father had booked a table two days earlier. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be any seats for us. There are some differences between Zibo’s barbecue and the ones in other cities. Zibo’s barbecue restaurants have a small grill (烤架) on each table. People need to cook on the grill by themselves. When the food is ready, you put it onto a small pancake, and then add scallions (葱) and sauce before eating.
People in the restaurant didn’t know each other before. But we just talked naturally about daily life and sang together. The boss of the restaurant even danced. Some local people even gave up their orders when they heard there weren’t enough seats. They wanted tourists from other places to have the chance to eat.
After eating the delicious food, I kept thinking about why Zibo barbecue became popular. Is it the promise between the government and the college students, or the special, tasty food, or the warmhearted people?

To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, governments at every level in China have been using many different control measures.
In heavily-affected areas, the government has chosen to lock down cities. In Hubei province, for example, after Wuhan’s lockdown on Jan 23, thirteen other cities in the province also taken lockdown measures. The decision proved effective (有效的) in stopping the virus’ spread at its root, China Daily said.
In some villages, people put up red banners (条幅) or used loudspeakers to educate people about the virus. Many communities also set up checkpoints to check people’s temperatures, keep records of their travel history, keep non-residents (非住户) out of the community, and make sure that people quarantine (隔离) themselves after returning from high-risk areas. Some community workers also help those who stay at home by bringing in food or medicine, taking out the rubbish, and offering psychological (心理的) advice. The community workers have built the first line of defense (防御) against the virus across China.
According to Xinhua, there are millions of community workers in 650,000 urban and rural (城市和农村) communities across the country. Many people from all walks of life have volunteered to do this job.
“In the face of an unexpected outbreak, it’s amazing to see that China could organize people on such a large scale (规模),” Li Baoping from the Ningxia Academy of Social Sciences told Xinhua. “Great governance capacity (治理能力) at all levels gives us confidence in winning the battle.”
