Bing Dwen Dwen, a panda in an ice shell, was chosen as the mascot for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics in 2019. Now it has been made into fluffy(毛绒绒的)toys and plastic(塑料的)models, as well as printed on notebooks, badges(徽章)and bags.
“The International Olympic Committee has found that successful mascots had to be cuddly(令人想拥抱的)and liked by 9-year-old children,” said Cao Xue, the chief(首席)designer of Bing Dwen Dwen. “And I knew Bing Dwen Dwen would be.” Cao’s team was from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. They once made three designs, and Cao asked his 9-year-old son to choose his favorite. “At his first glance(一瞥), he chose Bing Dwen Dwen which was the final mascot,” Cao noted. According to Cao, Bing Dwen Dwen was chosen from 5,816 designs from 38 countries and regions(地区). The idea first came from the traditional Chinese snack bingtanghulu—the syrup(糖浆)coat later turned into the ice shell in his design. However a simple snack cannot stand for(代表)a country by itself. Cao’s team then tried many plants and animals, finally going with a panda. “What can better stand for China than our national treasure(宝藏)?” said Cao, “We don’t need to explain anything to have it understood across different cultures.”
They faced a problem, though, there were already too many cartoon pandas. Cao’s team looked at panda designs from around the world. They wanted to make sure their panda was different. For this reason, Cao decide it should be a baby panda. This is how they got Bing Dwen Dwen’s body shape. Its body has the same length(长度)as its head.
Bing Dwen Dwen wears a full-body “shell” made of ice. It looks like an astronaut in a space suit, showing a perfect blend(混合)of winter sports and modern technology. Bing Dwen Dwen waves(挥舞)its left hand to say hello. It has two red hearts on its palms(手掌), showing kindness and love. A series of colored floating lines around its head look like the tracks on an ice rink(冰场). They refer to “Ice Ribbon(冰丝带)”—stand for Beijing’s National Speed Skating. The colorful lines also refer to fast 5G signals.

China's National Development and Reform Commission is fast-tracking a number of measures designed to slash the production and use of plastics over the next five years. It announced that by the end of 2020, non-biodegradable plastic bags will be banned in supermarkets and shopping malls in major cities. The ban will also apply to food delivery services, which use vast amounts of the plastics. Single-use plastic straws and cutlery used by food takeaway services will be banned nationwide by the end of this year. China will encourage the use of alternative materials such as non-plastic products and biodegradable shopping bags.
Single-use plastics are one of the world's biggest sources of plastic pollution. They have become a ubiquitous part of daily life and a part of our throwaway culture. The Chinese authorities set a goal of reducing the "intensity of consumption" in order to reverse our reliance on single-use plastics. Previous regulations to curb plastic use, in 2008, led to an estimated cut in plastic bag production of 67 billion bags. The United Nations said it is urgent that all countries adopt policies similar to those China is introducing. It said: "We are already unable to cope with the amount of plastic waste we generate, unless we rethink the way we manufacture, use and manage plastics."

They contain (包含) important information about your life, your family, your friends and your money. If you lose your smartphone, you are leaving your life story open for other people to read.
What exactly happens when someone loses their mobile? IT company Symantec recently did an experiment to find out. They put some information on 50 smartphones and left them at different places in five big cities. They put in a special program to follow the actions of the finders of the phones.
The results of the experiment were quite frightening. 48 of the people who found the phones turned them on and tried to open at least one of the apps on the phone. 36 of these people looked at the photos, and 30 of them logged on (注册)to social media or email accounts. But the scariest thing of all was that 21 finders opened the owner’s online banking app.
The experiment shows how important it is to look after your mobile phone. You should always know where it is. When you’re out, keep it in your hand, in your pocket or in your bag, and if you give it to someone, watch it until you get it back. Never leave your smartphone on a table or on the corner of a shop—it is very easy to forget that you put it there.
What should you do if you lose your phone? The finders in the experiment took between one and ten hours to open the “lost” smartphones, so you have to change your social media and banking password(密码)as soon as possible. And then, sit back and wait to see if someone returns your phone. Remember that there is a 50% chance of that happening!

Some choose a vegetarian diet because they believe killing animals is wrong. People who care about their health see it as a good way to keep fit and lower their risk of many illnesses. Lately, more people are having vegetables instead of meat because being vegetarians plays an important role in protecting the environment.
②For further research, researchers from China gave a report about the influence of eating behavior on the environment. It showed that meat consumption is one of the main ways that humans can harm the environment, second only to the use of cars. But how can changing our diets make a difference? We can compare the amount of water needed to produce meat and crops (农作物). For example, we need almost 20,000 liters (升) of water to produce a kilo of beef, but only about 150 liters of water are needed to produce a kilo of crops. It’s clear that we can make better use of land and water if we produce crops instead of meat.
③Feeding animals for food also leads to the rise of global temperatures. Animals such as cows, pigs and sheep give out a lot of greenhouse gas (温室气体).
④There are more and more people who support being vegetarians. For example, schools across many parts of the world hold “Meat Free Mondays” to show how easy it is to eat less meat. Some people go one step further and eat vegetables only all the time. Just being a vegetarian for one day a week or just eating less meat can go a long way.

I am sorry to hear that you don’t feel happy these days, because there are too many family rules at your home. In fact, there are also a lot of rules at my home and there are also lots of things I have to do. I can't go out on school nights, just like you. My father says I have to finish my homework first after getting home every school day. After dinner, I have to play the piano. I don't need to practice it on Tuesday and Friday nights. Because I must have dancing lessons on Tuesday and art lessons on Friday. It takes me an hour to practice playing it every time. After that, I have to spend twenty or thirty minutes reading a book. I have to go to bed before ten o'clock. I can't relax myself on weekends either. Because I have some extracurricular(课外的) classes, such as math and English. I can only go out with my friends on Saturday night, but I have to come back before a quarter to nine. But think about it, Amy. Parents make these rules to help us to be better. Suddenly, an angel appeared. “Put this button(纽扣) onto your clothes. If you don't want to wait, just turn the button to the right. You can skip over any time period if you want to. "
The man happily held the button and turned it softly. Oh! How amazing! His girlfriend appeared before him and was gently smiling to him! How I wish our wedding ceremony could be held now ! He turned the button once again. A great wedding appeared in front of him, the beautiful bride was standing next to him and the band was playing cheerful music. He lost himself in it deeply.
The desires in his heart kept coming out : I also want a big house with a garden in the front. He turned the button. Then he wished for children. All of a sudden, a group of lovely children were playing happily in the huge living room. Again, he jumped at the chance to turn the button to the right.
How time flew. Before he could see beautiful flowers in the garden, everything had been covered in deep snow. Looking at himself again, he found his hair was totally white. He had already become so old.
He felt so sad. He would rather enjoy life step by step than watch it go by in such a hurry. He quickly turned the button to the left. Once again, he was waiting for his lovely girlfriend under that big tree.

According to the Sleep Council, "junk sleep" could compete with eating unhealthy junk food as a main worrying lifestyle for parents of teenage children.
Among the l, 000 students aged 12 to 16 who were tested in the survey, 30 percent just slept for 4 to 7 hours a day. Almost a quarter said they fell asleep, more than once a week, while watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic gadgets.
