We live in a world full of many different kinds of people. We want to get along well with others. We also want to be liked by others. The following ways will make others like you.
Do This and You’ll Be Welcome Anywhere
Become really interested in other people. A show of interest must be true. It brings good results not only to the person showing the interest, but also to the person receiving the attention. It is a two-way street—both of you get an advantage.
A Simple Way to Make a Good First Impression
Smile as often as possible. Your smile is a sign of kindness. When someone feels stressed from his or her teachers or parents, your smile is like the sun breaking through the clouds, your smile can help him or her realize that all is hopeful—that there is still joy in the world.
If You Don’t Do This, You Are Getting into Trouble
Remember a person’s name. A person’s name is the sweetest and the most important sound in any language. We should realize the magic in a name. The name makes the person different from others; it makes him or her special among all others. If you remember a person’s name, the relationship between both of you will become much closer.
An Easy Way to Become a Good Talker
Be a careful listener first. Ask questions that other persons will like to answer. Encourage them to talk about themselves and their achievements. What you need to do is just to listen, because people are much more interested in themselves.

No one wants to look silly or do the wrong thing at a new job. It’s important to make the right impression(印象). You will face new people. You will be in a new place. It may be difficult to know what to do. Here are five tips to help you make it through the first days at a new job:
First impression can last forever. Make sure you make a good one. Before your first day, find out if your new job has a dress code(rules about what you can wear to work). If so, be sure to follow it.
Ask plenty of(大量) questions.
Some people seem to know how to start a conversation with anyone anywhere. If you’re not one of these people, don’t be sad. Here are some easy ways to help you make a conversation with someone new.
Say something about the surroundings (周围的事物).
If you’re at a party, for example, you could say, “I love this song”, or “The food is great. Have you tried the chicken?”
Ask an open-ended question.
The question requires (要求) more than just a yes or no answer. You can ask a question that begins with one of the 5W1H: who, where, when, what, why, or how. For example, “Who do you know here?” “Where do you usually go on Friday?” “How is the food?” Most people enjoy talking about themselves, so asking questions is a good way to start a conversation.
Give praise.
For example, “I really like your bag. Can I ask where you got it?” or “You look like you’ve done this before. Can you tell me where I have to sign in (签到)?”
Keep the conversations going with small talk.
Don’t say something annoying (令人讨厌的) and avoid big subjects like religion (宗教). Try some relaxing subjects. For example, you can talk about the weather or anything you have in common such as schools, movies and sports teams.
Be a good listener.
Listening is not the same as waiting for your turn to talk.. You can’t focus on (专注于) what someone’s saying if you’re thinking about what you’re going to say next. Focus on the speaker and show interest in what’s being said. Nod, smile at the person, and make sure you look friendly.

Mr Li, a well-known doctor from Beijing once said at an important meeting. Now many teenagers can have problems with their mental (心理). Some became worried because they have to study very hard. Others have trouble getting on well with people around them like their parents and classmates. Parents and teachers should care more about this problem.
Then Mr Li gave some examples. One patient, a middle school student from Xi’an was doing badly in his lessons. He thought his teachers and friends often laughed at him, and he became so nervous and worried that one night he left his homes without telling parents. Another student, a 14-year-old school girl from Shanghai, was very afraid of exams. (A) While she was reading the exam paper, she couldn’t think of anything to write.
A recent report from China Daily《中国日报》 says about I% of the young students in Shanghai have mental problems. They often feel worried and sad. Many of them don’t think they have been ill. Some think they will look stupid if they go to see a doctor. Others won’t talk about their secrets.
At the end of the meeting, Mr Li (B) offered some good ideas to teenagers:
● Talk to your parents or teacher often.
● Take part in group activities.
● Go and see the doctor and take some medicine.
● Eat more vegetables such as broccoli (西蓝花) and tomatoes.

Getting electricity has always been a problem for the 173 people living in Nuevo Saposoa, a small village in Peru, South America. However, things went worse in March 2017 after heavy rains damaged the only power cables(电缆) in the area. The villagers were forced to use oil lamps, which are not only expensive but also dangerous because of the harmful gases they produce.
Luckily, researchers at the University of Technology (UT) in Lima, Peru heard about their problem and found a wonderful method to solve it. They made a lamp that can be powered by plants and soil, both of which can be easily found in the Amazonian rainforest where the village lies. The lamp takes energy from a plant growing in a wooden box and uses it to light up an LED light bulb.
While that may sound amazing and even impossible, the science behind the idea is quite simple. As plants create their food (using the sun’s energy, water and chemicals from the soil), they also produce waste which they return to the soil. Tiny animals in the soil eat this waste and they produce electrons(电子). The UT team put special sticks inside the soil to get the energy and keep it in the lamp’s batteries for later use. The researchers say a single charge(电荷) can power a 50-walt LED light for two hours-enough time for local villagers to get their evening work done.
The university gave ten Plant Lamps to the villagers of Nuevo Saposoa in October 2017. So far, they have been a huge success! Elmer Ramirez, the UT professor who invented the lamp, believes the Plant Lamp could help improve the lives of many people, especially small rainforest communities, 42% of whom have no electricity.

Spending time in a foreign country is an exciting and life-changing experience. You see different sceneries, taste different food and meet people with different backgrounds. And the most important thing of all, you explore and even become a part of the local culture.
However, culture shock may hit you. Things you believe at home may no longer be that way in a foreign country. Not everybody thinks like you or does things the way you’ve always done.
Their tea tastes different. They don’t talk loudly in restaurants. Some might not care much about your life, so you may even feel they are sometimes cold. It is not better or worse. It is just different. Then what you can do in a foreign country is to take in the differences. Each time you open up your mind a little more, you become a better person.

Each year, diseases related to inadequate water and sanitation kill between 2 and 5 million people and cause an estimated 80 percent of all sicknesses in the developing world. Safe drinking water is a precondition for health and the fight against child death rate, inequality between men and women, and poverty.
Consider these facts:
●The average distance that women in Africa and Asia walk to collect water is 6 kilometers.
●Only 58 percent of children in sub-Saharan Africa are drinking safe water, and only 37 percent of childrenin South Asia have access to even a basic toilet.
●Each year in India alone, 73 million working days are lost to water-borne diseases.
Here are three ways you can help:
(1) Write Congress
Current U. S. foreign aid for drinking water and sanitation budgets only one dollar per year per American citizen. Few members of Congress have ever received a letter from voters about clean drinking water abroad.
(2) Sponsor a project with a faith-based organization
Many U.S. religious groups already sponsor water and sanitation projects, working with partner organizationsabroad. Simply putting a single project by a U.S. organization can make safe water a reality for thousands of people.
(3) Support nonprofit water organizations
Numerous U.S.-based nonprofits work skillfully abroad in community-led projects related to drinking water and sanitation. Like the sample of non-profits noted as follows, some organizations are large, other small-scale, some operate worldwide, others are devoted to certain areas in Africa, Asia, or Latin America. Support them generously.
1. How many people are killed because of the diseases related to inadequate water and sanitation problem each year?
