Starting from the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC—771 BC) to the Tang Dynasty (618 AD—907 AD), the city had held many sports events. Among them, cuju is one of the most enjoyable one.
Cuju, as the origin (起源) of modern soccer, was an ancient Chinese competitive game involving (涉及) kicking a ball through an opening into a net. 2 . Do you know that vocabulary is more important than grammar? If you have good vocabulary, you can communicate successfully, even if the grammar is not completely perfect.
However, one common problem is learning new words and then forgetting them. So, when you want to use a new word in a conversation, you can’t remember it at that moment. Does this often happen to you? The reason for this difficulty is that most students try to learn vocabulary by studying lists and dictionaries and remembering the words. But it may not work if you don’t have a very good memory.
The best way to learn vocabulary and remember the words successfully is to learn new words and use them at once. You can do this with a very simple exercise. Each time you learn a new word, for example, from an English lesson or an article, write it down in your vocabulary notebook. Writing is more active than just reading a definition(释义). You should write the word, the definition in English or translation, one example sentence from the article or dictionary and one example sentence that you create.
Imagine you just learn the word “generous”, write in your vocabulary notebook: generous (adjective), definition—giving or willing to give freely. Example One, from the article: Thanks for paying for my dinner, you’re very generous. Example Two, my example: My brother is generous because he volunteers at the animal shelter on weekends. It’s best if your example sentences are true to your life, because this creates a personal connection with the new word. The next day, read your vocabulary notebook again and try to add one more example sentence using the new word. It’s helpful for you to remember it. These two simple steps—writing the word and using it at once—help you remember and use new words.

4 . ①Some people say they “never forget a face”. But what does that saying mean? Is there really no limit (限制) to the number of faces a person can remember?
②A new study has found that, people on average can remember as many as 5,000 faces. The number comes from a group of researchers at the University of York in England. The research team tested people on how many faces they could remember from their personal lives and in the media. They also tested themto see how many famous faces they recognized.
③The people in the test spent one hour writing down as many names of faces from their personal lives as possible. Some examples may include people they went to school with, people they worked with and family members.
④At first, they found it easy to comeup with many faces. But by the end of the hour, they found they had run out of faces completely.
⑤After that, these people were shown thousands of photographs of famous people. Researchers asked them which ones they recognized. To make sure they knew these people, researchers asked them to recognize two different photos of each famous person. The results showed that they knew between 1, 000 and 10, 000 faces.

5 . Everybody dreams, but different cultures have different theories (理论) about why people dream and how they should be interpreted (解释). Most western dream theories say that dreams are the mind’s way of processing the events of the person’s day or life.
Chinese dream theories come from ancient texts, beliefs, and traditions. They hold the idea that too little or too much Yin or Yang in the body or pain from certain diseases causes dreams. Also, traditional Chinese beliefs think that if people think too much during the day or have too many feelings, they will also dream.
Zhou Duke Interprets Dreams (周公解梦) is the classic Chinese book about dream theories. It’s the basis of most traditional Chinese ideas of dream interpretation, and all the other Chinese dream theories were developed from it. The following examples are how Chinese people interpret their dreams according to Zhou Duke Interprets Dreams.
When you dream rats, it means that danger is around. However, if you drive away the rat in the dream, it means that you can get yourself out of difficulties.
Do not be afraid if you dream of death. It may not be a bad thing. Dreaming of a dead person could mean that you want to forget some unhappy past events and are ready to come out of sadness.
Dreaming that your teeth fall out could be simply a symbol of the teeth itself. Teeth are the strongest things in our body, and the falling of them can mean your beliefs, values, and worldviews are changing.
