A super day
By William
I woke up at six. It was my birthday! An exciting day! I felt very happy.
I opened the curtains, and looked at the sky.
The Sun was shining. It was a sunny day.
The postman brought me fifteen colourful cards.
Jenny sent a funny card. I laughed!
Uncle drove us to Ocean Park in his new car.
We watched a great water show,
With clever dolphins and smart seals.
We walked in a lovely aviary (鸟舍).
We went on a comfortable boat ride.
Later, we had dinner in an excellent restaurant,
With delicious food and wonderful presents, all for me.
Birthdays are so good!

Some days
I didn’t find it interesting,Listening,
I didn’t find it interesting,
Talking,
So I left the house—I went miles and miles.
And I didn’t find it interesting,
Walking,
I didn’t find it interesting,
Reading,
I didn’t find it interesting,
Writing,
So I left the house—I went miles and miles.
And I didn’t find it interesting,
Travelling,
I didn’t find it interesting,
Television,
There wasn’t much on.
That night,
So I sat in a chair and I went to sleep,
A dull (沉闷的) old day.
All right.

Sometimes I’m called Katie,
Sometimes I’m called Anne,
This is because most people
Don’ t know who I am.
It’ s nice to have a twin sister,
But the cause of all the trouble
Is I am just like Katie
And Katie is my double.
My uncle says, “I bet it’s fun
Pretending you’re each other!”
My aunt wishes one of us
Had been the other’s brother!
It’s not much fun when my friend Jill
Comes round to have her tea—
She sometimes plays with Katie
Thinking that it’s me.
My mum knows what to call me,
My grandad’s almost sure
And now there’ s a way of knowing
We haven’t had before,
Katie’s lost her two front teeth
So all she has to do
Is smile and grin at everyone
Then they know who’s who!

5 . Huck is my name, Huckleberry Finn. I live in the town of St. Petersburg in the state of Missouri. It is a small town but it is near a very big river called Mississippi. This is a story of a journey that I made down the river on a raft and the adventures I had on the way.
It all started when my best friend, Tom Sawyer and I found $ 12,000 in a cave. That money made us rich. We got $ 6, 000 each. Judge Thatcher, an important man in St. Petersburg, put it in the bank, and now we get a dollar a day interest (利息).
Then a kind old lady called Widow Douglas invited me to live with her. Because I haven’t got a family or a home. My mother died a long time ago, then my dad, Pap, went away. He was an unkind man especially when he drank a lot, which was most of the time, and he often beat me. I was afraid of him. I didn’t go to school like the other boys of my age. I lived on the streets and in the woods.
My life changed after I lived with the widow (寡妇). She gave me a bed to sleep in and bought new clothes for me. She read stories to me and taught me how to eat at a table.
But then her sister Miss Watson arrived. She brought Jim with her. I liked Jim but I didn’t like Miss Watson very much. She often shouted at me.
“Don’t put your feet on the table. Huckleberry! Sit up straight! Why don’t you try and behave well, Huckleberry?”

9 . Pippi Longstocking, the 9-year-old, red haired hero of children’s books, turned 75 on May 21, 2020.
Pippi Longstocking first came to life in 1941, when Astrid Lindgren’s daughter Karin was sick in bed for a long time. Karin suddenly said to her, “Tell me about Pippi Longstocking, Mum.”
Ms. Lindgren’s stories were about a wild but good-hearted young girl. She lived by herself in a house called Villa Villekulla. She lived with her horse and her monkey. But three years later, Ms. Lindgren began to write down the stories she had told her daughter. When she finished her book, she sent it to a famous publisher( 出版社 ), but the book was refused.
Ms. Lindgren kept working on the book. In 1945, Ms. Lindgren entered her book in a competition. Pippi Longstocking won first prize, and the book came out in November. Pippi Longstocking was quickly a hit with young readers. They laughed at her jokes, and admired her bravery. Who wouldn’t love a girl strong enough to lift a horse, and willing to risk her life to save children in a burning building? Some adults felt like Pippi set a bad example to children. Pippi didn’t go to school. She lived by herself, and only followed the rules she liked. But with time, Pippi’s good heart won over readers of all ages.
Ms. Lindgren wrote many other books, including over 30 books for children. The three Pippi Longstocking books have been translated into over 75 languages.
So why is Pippi’s birthday celebrated on May 21? May 21 is the birthday of Ms. Lindgren’s daughter Karin, who first requested the stories all those years ago.
