There are many successful people in the world. If you want to succeed like them, the following rules of success are of great importance to you.

Speak less. Let your results speak for you. You don’t always need to tell everyone what you’re doing, or what you’re planning to achieve.     1    . People will notice and respect you more if they see your results before they hear your plans.

    2     You cannot learn if you do not listen. You cannot grow if you do not learn. Listen with purpose. If you’re serious about making your life great, you have to be devoted to it.

Observe (观察) more. The closer you observe, the better your understanding and decisions will be. Pay close attention to those you admire.     3     Observe what works and what doesn’t work in your own life and make changes.

Finally, take action. Knowing is not enough and being willing to do is not enough.     4     If you want anything in life, it’s not coming to you while you sit on your hands. Get up, get out there and get it.     5    

4 . Mike is an 8-year-old boy. One day after school, he sees a small dog. It’s lost.

Mike goes to the dog. “Hello,” he says to the dog. The dog has a collar (项圈). He looks at the black collar. The dog’s name is on it. Its name is Spike. Spike is a nice, brown dog. “Come here, Spike.” Mike says to the dog.

Mike takes Spike to his home and gives it some dog food. But he knows Spike isn’t his dog. He wants to help it find its owner (主人). Mike writes (写) some posters and puts them up (把……张贴) at bus stops (汽车站). The posters say “Found Dog”. But no one comes to find Spike.

Now, Spike has a new house in Mike’s room. It’s under the desk. And they’re good friends.

When my children were younger, we used to walk around the lake near our home.

One spring day my daughter and I ______ just how much rubbish was lying along the way. Thousands of years ago Britain was covered by thick forests, home to many animals which no longer live in the United Kingdom. There were wolves and bears, many different kinds of deer and large wild cows. People who lived in villages were well protected by wooden walls from the animals outside.

However, all this has changed with the development of the country. Today, the United Kingdom is a country with a big population—68.5 million people live there. If you travel, most of the time you’ll be looking at towns and cities. There are very few wild animals. Britain is one of the few countries in the world that does not have a large meat-eating wild animal.

Some people would like to change such things. Some organizations and nature lovers say that Britain needs to become more natural again. They suggest that trees and plants that grew in the UK before should be allowed to grow again. They even would like to help wild animals such as bears that grew in Britain in ancient times to return and live wild. They call this “rewilding”—making things wild again.

Other people do not agree. They strongly believe that it would be too dangerous to do so. What would happen if the wild animals left their new homes to kill sheep or even attack (攻击) people? Would people still be able to go walking in the mountains which so many people enjoy?

So far there are no wolves or bears in Britain’s forests, but soon there might be!
