1 . On January 27, in order to win the new pneumonia Resistance War (抗击新型肺炎战),the Ministry of Education issued (公布) a notice on putting off the start time of school in spring 2020. It was said that school should not start before February 17. The exact start time of school will depend on situations and further notices.

However, many parents are very worried that putting off the start of school may affect children’s studies. If they have such a long winter vacation, children will not learn any knowledge, read books or study at all. They may forget what they have learned before. Staying at home for a long time will make them keep eating, sleeping and playing, which seriously affect their physical and mental health.

In short, the close of school influences learning and develops bad habits, so how should we avoid these problems? Local education departments have also issued a notice, that is, to organize online teaching and create a network platform (平台) where necessary courses will be shown every day, and online teaching will be given by excellent teachers of the subject, and students can learn at home through computer or mobile network.

It should be said that such a method is very good. It can not only keep students indoors and not worry about the infection (感染) of the disease, but also make them study at home, improve their learning ability, and truly achieve “no suspension of classes”. Both the platform itself and the recorded lesson resources are more useful, and are welcomed by parents and teachers.

Of course, except for learning at home, it is also necessary to teach children about health knowledge, especially how to keep away from touching virus and other knowledge popularization; at the same time, it is also necessary for children to do some physical exercises or some games, which is good for physical health at home.

3. Which is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Students would rather go to school.B.The date of going to school is decided.
C.Online teaching will help student’s study.D.Parents believe children can teach themselves.
4. What’s the best title for this passage?
A.A Special Way to Learn at HomeB.A New War with a New Chance

2 . As the COVID-19 appeared, many people’s life changed.

At the beginning of March 2020, Boylan, a professor of Medicine Jon Bae, went from working onsite to being another role as a health economic analyst(分析家) of Duke University Health System. And a month into the pandemic(流行病), his daughter, Elora, was born. The past two years drew Boylan closer to his wife, Katie, “During the time of the pandemic, I am not one of those people who have time to learn how to bake bread or anything,” Boylan said. “I think, in terms of personal growth, I have learned much about how to live a happy life.”

By October of 2020, the pandemic had lasted for several months, and Melanie Thomas was feeling down. “How do I have a rich and full life during this special time and keep a positive attitude?” Thomas asked herself. While the trip to Nepal was the goal, the exercise to prepare for it became a central piece of herself-care routine.

Saying she understood the difficulty of spending the holiday season “with one familiar laugh missing,” the queen delivered her address beside a photograph of Prince Philip, who died in April at age 99. “Although it’s a time of great happiness and good cheer for many, Christmas can be hard for those who have lost loved ones,” the queen said in the prerecorded message broadcast when many British families were enjoying their traditional Christmas dinner. “This year, especially, I understand why.” She added the country still has the great future.

Despite her own loss, the queen said her family was a “source of great happiness”, noting that she had welcomed four great-grandchildren this year. “While COVID again means we can’t celebrate quite as we may have wished, we can still enjoy the many happy things, be it the singing of carols—as long as the tune is well known—decorating the tree, giving and receiving presents or watching a favorite film where we already know the ending,” she said. “It’s no surprise that families so often treasure their Christmas routines.”

As the highly transmissible Omicron coronavirus variant(新冠病毒变种奥密克戎) spreads rapidly across the U.K., the 95-year-old queen has decided not to spend Christmas at Sandringham, the royal estate in eastern England where she traditionally spends the festive season with family. 6 . Eden Gross wants kids to know that they’re not alone when they feel afraid. “I get fearful sometimes,” said the Florida fourth-grader, who has often been drawn to dark stories. At age 8, Eden started writing songs to deal with her fears. Last month, she released (发行) her first song, “Shadows on the Wall.” It’s for kids everywhere who have problems with mental (精神的) health. The point of the song is that the fears “aren’t reality,” said Eden, now 10. “I am bigger than these fears.”

Eden began writing “Shadows on the Wall” in 2019 after attending the Throga Retreat, a youth singing program about two hours from her home in Parkland. There, she met Johnny Cummings, a New York-based singer, songwriter, and producer. After the program, the pair worked together each week through Skype. They finished “Shadows on the Wall” and a second song, “The Last Kid on Earth,” which centers on the idea that although each person is different, we all feel alone sometimes.

Eden wants more grown-ups to understand the influence of COVID-19 on children. “They’re used to running around, playing with their friends. Getting used to new realities was really hard,” Eden said.

Eden and her twin brother, Jordan, recently marked one year of distance learning (远程学习). It was unusual at first. They weren’t getting used to it and missed their days in school. “The Internet has become our whole world,” said Eden. “Technology has become our new way of connecting.”

One lesson from COVID-19, said Eden, is to “find a way to do what you love and be who you are, no matter the environment.” For Eden, that means spending time with the family’s pet, Ollie, and continuing to follow her dream of music and writing. She’s busy with her third song, “The Voices.” “It’s about judging (评价) yourself in your head when you say, ‘I’m not good enough,’” she said. “And then realizing, ‘I am good enough. I am good enough for me.’ ”

7 . The COVID-19 and flu are both respiratory infectious diseases, with similar symptoms including fever and cough, but they are not the same.

Both the COVID-19 and flu are diseases caused by a virus. In the case of flu, the pathogens(病原体) are flu viruses, and for COVID-19, it is a novel coronavirus(新型冠状病毒).

Common symptoms for flu and novel coronavirus are nearly identical fever, cough and tiredness, sometimes sore throat and diarrhea. In severe cases, they result in pneumonia(肺炎), and even deaths in the worst cases. Flu has seasonal ups and downs. Although it can exist all year round, the virus infects more people in winter and spring. As for the novel coronavirus, there is not yet enough evidence showing how it would                    respond to changing weather.

The mortality rate(死亡率) for the novel coronavirus is higher than that for flu. Generally, people with poor immunity(免疫力), especially children and seniors, are more likely to catch seasonal flu and develop into severe cases. As for the novel coronavirus, the median age for the infected is 51. But the novel coronavirus is a brand-new virus, and no one has total                    immunity no matter their age.

Both the flu and the novel coronavirus are transmitted in similar ways, by direct contact with infected patients or small droplets from the nose or mouth when a person with viruses coughs or breathes.

Flu can be spread by an infected person for several days before their symptoms appear. As for the novel coronavirus, spread might be possible before people show symptoms, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

For the novel coronavirus, there is also a risk for aerosol transmission(气溶胶传播). In health facilities, people may catch the virus if they breathed in aerosol, the suspension of fine solid or liquid particles in the air, which have been contaminated by the virus. The novel coronavirus has also been found in patients' fecal(排泄物) samples, but fecal-oral transmission does not appear to be a major transmission route.

1. What can we learn about the novel coronavirus?
A.It has seasonal changes.
B.It causes less deaths than flu.
C.It may spread among people of all ages.
D.It only spreads after people show symptoms.
2. Which of the following is NOT the way the novel coronavirus transmits?
A.Aerosol transmission.
B.Contact transmission.
C.Fecal-oral transmission.
D.Age transmission.
3. The author's main purpose of writing the article is probably to .
A.prove flu has less harm to humans than COVID-19
B.raise people's awareness of protecting their health
C.prove COVID-19 probably won't cause human deaths
D.provide some suggestions to avoid COVID-19 infection
4. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.A new treatment on the novel coronavirus.
B.The latest research on COVID-19 and flu.
C.The difference between the novel coronavirus and flu.
D.How to identify COVID-19 and flu on symptoms.
