文章大意:本篇是说明文。介绍了利用假期出去旅游有助于丰富未来的职场阅历。

2 . If you’re going travelling after university or as a career break, an extended period of time of unemployment can leave a gaping hole in your CV.     1     As long as you plan your trip carefully and think about what you can do, travelling can actually boost your CV and career.

Recharge you batteries

If you’ve just spent three or four years at university, or working without a break, then you’ll need to recharge your batteries. If you take time out to travel you’ll have the opportunity to think about what’s important in your life and refocus on your career.     2

Learn a new skill

If you’re going on a round-the-world trip then you could be travelling from anywhere between a month to a year, why don’t you learn a new skill while you’re on the road?     3     All businesses and companies need candidates with a broad skill set, so look at learning another language or getting further qualifications to boost your CV.

Make contacts

When you’re backpacking and travelling, try to make contacts with people who might be useful for your career. The contacts you make while travelling could be your avenue into a new career.     4

Volunteer

4 . When it comes to hobbies and career, all of us have our own stories. As a little girl, my favorite thing to do was read — same as today. So I figured I’d be a librarian when I grew up.     1     The library had a two-book limit, but she knew I’d blow through those in just a few days, so she always let me check out a big stack.

Time passed quickly and I was in fourth grade. Our school librarian, Mrs. Ketelsen, sent some poems I’d written about dinosaurs to Highlights magazine.     2

At the University, though majoring in journalism, I quickly learned that I did not want to be a newspaper reporter.     3     It amuses almost everyone who knows me and thinks I’m outgoing. (I am, but only with people I know!) So I was thrilled when I was selected for a summer internship at Reader’s Digest.

Ten years after that, I came back to RD to work as an editor.     4     I’ve worked at other magazines too, but I’ve spent most of my career here, reading magazines, newspapers, websites, and books for stories we could condense (简缩); writing articles; even choosing jokes.

5     “The Tractor War” takes me home to the Midwest. “Something to Sneeze At” reminds me of all the sneezing I did when I moved to New York City and was suddenly allergic to grasses and trees... I relate to lots of our stories this month, and I hope you do too. Enjoy!

A.It was a long road home.
B.I lost my interest in it soon.
C.My first published writing!
D.I’m shy about interviewing people.
E.My dream of becoming a librarian encouraged me.
F.The stories in this issue seem to introduce myself to you.
G.Our town librarian, Mrs. Tonne, was really important to me becoming me.

5 . A career aptitude (能力、倾向) test is often used to help those interested in entering the work force.     1    . These tests can help evaluate how a person thinks and best understand what areas of interest a person may want to go after.

2    . They will typically consist of a number of questions phrased as multiple-choice or true/false questions. These are often used so that the results of the test can be determined through computer analysis of answers. Take 123 Career Test for an example. 123 Career Test is a five-to-ten minute assessment of your career personality. You look at pictures of people who are doing work-related task, and choose “yes” or “no” in regard to whether you could see yourself enjoying that task.     3    , the computer will soon tell you what work environments and occupations best suit your career personality.

123 Career Test shows how wonderful career aptitude test can be. You may now be eager to try one.     4    .

Some career aptitude tests may only focus on analyzing the types of skills or strengths and weaknesses a person may have. The results of such tests may not always match what a person wants to do. Someone could be very strong at critical thinking and analysis, which may indicate he or she has an aptitude for becoming a scientist. If that person has no particular interest in science, however, then the results of such a test would not necessarily indicate what career he or she should pursue.     5    .

A.It is relatively easy to carry out
B.It indicates what tests are more suitable for them
C.It determines what career might be the best choice for them
D.After you finish the tasks related to choosing “yes” or “no”
E.But before you do that, there’s something you’d better know
F.The results only show a career which he or she may be good at
G.There are many ways in which a career aptitude test can be prepared
