文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。哈佛医学院教授Peggy Cawthon给我们指出了四点有关走路锻炼的建议。

2 . Walking might seem simple. “But it’s not,” explains Peggy Cawthon, a professor at Harvard Medical School. “It’s an amazingly complex behavior when we try to understand how to improve our lives as we age.”     1    ? Here are a few ideas.

Don’t stop exercising

Cawthon agrees that the worst thing a person can do is to stop exercising. “You’ll feel the effects almost immediately,” says Cawthon. Sitting for hours leaves her uncomfortable, and it’s the days when she types that her arthritis (关节炎) doesn’t cause much pain.     2    .

Train yourself to walk with skill

To truly improve your walking, you need to think like an athlete. Imagine you want to play tennis, but you have a bad backhand. Playing lots of tennis won’t fix the problem, Cawthon says.     3    . It’s the same thing with walking.

Give your brain a boost (激励)

4    . So don’t forget that when working out your fitness plan. Cawthon has been studying an area of the brain related to motivation (动机) and executive function. Subjects with a boost walk more steps on average than the control group, and they have been maintaining that even several months later.

    5

So when should we face the music about our mobility? There is no final answer for when walking problems begin to come up. “You should be as active as you can at any age,” Cawthon says, noting that people who are healthy in their 20s and 30s are best equipped to deal with future age-related challenges. “The best time to start is now. Next best is tomorrow,” she says.

A.Start planning now
B.Be in pretty good shape
C.You need to improve your skill
D.So what steps should we take to do it right
E.How can you sweat your way to good health
F.It is a helpful reminder that our bodies need action
G.Basically, the body part controlling everything is your brain

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了运动与睡眠之间的关系。
3 . 阅读下列短文,在空白处填入一个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

Exercise is one of the best     1    (thing) you can do for health. But how about your sleep? The answer is that being active during     2    day can improve sleep at night.

People who exercise     3    (regular) get better sleep than those who don’t. Exercise increases chemicals which can increase the body temperature. That may lead to the decrease of body temperature at night, allowing people     4    (experience) deeper sleep.

For most people, the time     5    they take exercise doesn’t matter. However, late afternoon might be the best choice for too much exercise. Morning might be a choice     6     (prefer) by people for ongoing training. And make it a regular part of your routine to keep up once the best type of exercise for yourself     7    (decide).

As for the amount of exercise, it is wise to work out about 150 minutes every week,     8    about 30 minutes each day, five days a week. Little things you do all day long can add up, from taking the stairs     9    walking instead of driving. Try to spend fewer minutes     10    (sit) all the day.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要介绍一项研究表明,长时间坐在电脑或电视屏幕前并不是近视的唯一原因。家长们不仅要记住限制孩子的总屏幕时间,还要鼓励他们多参加户外活动。

4 . For better eyesight (视力), doctors advise limiting (限制) the hours of screen time and encourage having enough eye resting time.

However, another study shows that sitting in front of computer or TV screens for long hours is not the only reason for myopia (近视). An Australian research team studied young children in Sydney and Singapore to find the reasons for myopia. The research team found that there were less children who had myopia in Sydney than those in Singapore, even though they spent more time in front of computer and TV screens. The major finding is that children in Sydney spend longer hours on outdoor sports than those in Singapore.

Indoor and outdoor sports both make the eyes pay attention to more distant (远处的) objects, which stops the eyes from changing original shape. But outdoor sports may be better than indoor sports for myopia. Because natural light is good for eye growth and vitamin (维他命) D from the sunlight might be useful to it. Many doctors suggest that every child get its first eye test when he/she is about two and half years old, and even if his/her sight seems good enough. It is necessary for myopic(近视的) children to wear glasses to stop headaches, trouble reading and so on. It is also important that schools invite doctors to test their students’ eyes.

If that is not possible, school teachers should at least encourage parents and children to have regular eye examination and wear glasses. And parents should remember not only to limit the total screen time for their children, but also to encourage them to spend time outdoors.

1. What did the Australian research team study for?
A.To find the reasons for myopia.
B.To find the ways to treat myopia.
C.To learn to choose right glasses.
D.To improve children’s eyesight.
2. Why are there fewer children with myopia in Sydney than those in Singapore?
A.Because the children in Sydney watch TV less.
B.Because the children in Sydney have more eye resting time.
C.Because the children in Sydney use computer less.
D.Because the children in Sydney do more outdoor sports.
3. What conclusion can we draw from the passage?
A.Sydney children don’t study hard.
B.Singapore children do few exercise.
C.Room light does harm to children’s eyes.
D.Outdoors activities do more good to eyes.
4. Which of the following is true?
A.Children should have eye tests as soon as they reach school age.
B.Looking more at distant objects can help the eyes keep their original shape.
C.Doing outdoor sports with no glasses is good for myopic children.
D.Children should limit their time in the sun to protect their eyes.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了在冬天长距离步行的好处及注意事项。

5 . Winter is often a low point for outdoor lovers, as cold weather pushes them indoors. However, winter can be a beautiful time of year for a winter trail walk.     1

Generally, winter walking presents dangers.     2     You will need to wear appropriate clothing and always have proper footwear for your winter walking.

Above all, you should dress warmly. The best way to dress for cold weather exercise is to wear more layers. When you warm up from the exercise, you can take off layers so you will never become over heated.     3

Shoes are a very important aspect of winter walking. Instead of using regular shoes on a winter walk, consider trying a pair of snowshoes, a fun way to enjoy your trail.     4     With snowshoes, you will still need to wear good waterproof shoes.

5     Spend some time finding a trail that is open and safe to walk on during the winter. If you can’t find a trail that fits your requirements, you can come up with an alternative plan. Walk around your local neighborhoods to view the holiday lights or go to your local park where you will probably find some sort of walking trail that is accessible during the winter.

A.Nor will you suffer from being too cold.
B.Stay focused while you are out walking.
C.You may find your favorite trail closed during the winter.
D.You will be more steady on the snow and get a better workout.
E.So why not continue to spend time outside, taking winter trail walks?
F.The severer the weather is, the more careful you need to be when walking.
G.A trail that normally gets lots of traffic may be empty during the winter.

Running a few kilometers each day     1    (be) good for our health. However, new research says running too much could be bad for us. Running long distances    2     (regular) for many years could make our life shorter, not longer. The study is from the Minneapolis Heart Institute. A researcher said too much running can create plaque (斑) inside your heart,     3     can lead to heart disease. He wrote that running too much for many years takes away the good things from exercise. He     4     (add) that the risk of heart disease could be     5     same as someone who never exercised.

Researchers looked     6     the health and training of 3, 300 runners over the age of 35. 70% of them ran over 30 kilometers a week. Men who ran marathons for 25 years had 62%     7     (much) plaque in their hearts than men who did little or no exercise. Another doctor said he felt cheated. He started running marathons in 1967. He used     8     (run) 60 kilometers every week. He said, “I thought I was out there exhausting     9     (me), building an absolutely strong heart.” The doctor advised     10     (exercise) frequently. So please don’t overdo things.

8 . Nowadays, children spend less time in the fresh air. Many of them are addicted to a screen either on a computer or a TV—they seem to be living in a virtual world. They have lost touch with nature.

But now 400 organizations in the UK, from playgroups to the National Health Service, are encouraging children to have some “wild time”. They want kids to swap at least 30 minutes of watching TV or playing computer games for time playing outside. Activities such as building dens, climbing trees, rummaging for conkers and playing hide and seek are just some of the things kids can do. Even if they live in a city, they can go on adventures in the garden or the park.

Children often need a helping hand from mum and dad. They need to be shown what to do and where to go. Andy Simpson from National Health Service says, “We want parents to see what this magical wonder product does for their kids’ development, independence and creativity, by giving wild time a go.”

So despite the complicated world that young people grow up in now, it seems that going back to basics and experiencing “nature’s playground” is what modern children need. David Bond from Project Wild Thing says, “We need to make more space for wild time in children’s daily routine, freeing this generation of kids to have the sort of experiences that many of us took for granted.”

This might sound a bit old-fashioned to you or maybe, like me, it’s made you think about sticking on your boots, getting outdoors and reliving your childhood. There’s no age limit on enjoying yourself!

1. What makes children lose touch with nature?
A.Playing hide and seek.B.Going on adventures in parks.
C.Building dens frequently.D.Being addicted to a screen.
2. In Andy Simpson’s opinion, who should be persuaded to see the effect of wild time?
A.Teachers.B.Parents.C.Children.D.Experts.
3. What might David probably agree?
A.What modern children need is spiritual satisfaction.
B.Children always take it for granted to play outside.
C.Children need more time to get close to nature.
D.Parents should make larger rooms for kids to study.
4. What can be inferred from this passage?
A.People at any age can enjoy wild time.B.Watching TV is a good way to learn about nature.
C.Everyone lives in a high-pressure world.D.Adults all desire to go back to childhood.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。介绍了一些防止人们在体育运动中受伤的策略。

10 . Playing sports is a lot of fun. Getting hurt is not.    1

Wear protective equipment.

The equipment you wear depends on the sport you play. Helmets (头盔) are the most common protective equipment. They protect your head while you’re playing football, baseball, softball, and so on.

Warm up.

2     Doing some stretches (伸展) can get you prepared to hit the field. By warming up, you get yourself ready to play. Practicing a sport helps keep you safe, too.

Know the rules of the games.

Traffic lights help prevent crashes between many cars that run on the road together. This works because drivers know the rules and follow them—at least most of the time.    3     When players know the rules of the game, fewer injuries happen. For example, you know that in soccer you can’t come from behind, crash into a player’s legs, or steal the ball. It’s legal and safer to go after the ball rather than the player.

    4

This is a really important one. If you love sports, you may want to get back in the games, even after an injury. But playing when you’re hurt is a bad idea.    5

Now you know how to prevent sports injuries. If you follow these rules, you can stay safer while you are playing sports.

A.Don’t play when you’re injured.
B.Don’t do too much exercise.
C.It’s the same with sports.
D.It can lead to an even worse injury.
E.It’s not a good idea to just go to the field and start playing.
F.You and the other players know what to expect from each other.
G.Take these steps to prevent injuries so you can stay in the game.
