2 . Walking might seem simple. “But it’s not,” explains Peggy Cawthon, a professor at Harvard Medical School. “It’s an amazingly complex behavior when we try to understand how to improve our lives as we age.”
Don’t stop exercising
Cawthon agrees that the worst thing a person can do is to stop exercising. “You’ll feel the effects almost immediately,” says Cawthon. Sitting for hours leaves her uncomfortable, and it’s the days when she types that her arthritis (关节炎) doesn’t cause much pain.
Train yourself to walk with skill
To truly improve your walking, you need to think like an athlete. Imagine you want to play tennis, but you have a bad backhand. Playing lots of tennis won’t fix the problem, Cawthon says.
Give your brain a boost (激励)
So when should we face the music about our mobility? There is no final answer for when walking problems begin to come up. “You should be as active as you can at any age,” Cawthon says, noting that people who are healthy in their 20s and 30s are best equipped to deal with future age-related challenges. “The best time to start is now. Next best is tomorrow,” she says.

4 . For better eyesight (视力), doctors advise limiting (限制) the hours of screen time and encourage having enough eye resting time.
However, another study shows that sitting in front of computer or TV screens for long hours is not the only reason for myopia (近视). An Australian research team studied young children in Sydney and Singapore to find the reasons for myopia. The research team found that there were less children who had myopia in Sydney than those in Singapore, even though they spent more time in front of computer and TV screens. The major finding is that children in Sydney spend longer hours on outdoor sports than those in Singapore.
Indoor and outdoor sports both make the eyes pay attention to more distant (远处的) objects, which stops the eyes from changing original shape. But outdoor sports may be better than indoor sports for myopia. Because natural light is good for eye growth and vitamin (维他命) D from the sunlight might be useful to it. Many doctors suggest that every child get its first eye test when he/she is about two and half years old, and even if his/her sight seems good enough. It is necessary for myopic(近视的) children to wear glasses to stop headaches, trouble reading and so on. It is also important that schools invite doctors to test their students’ eyes.
If that is not possible, school teachers should at least encourage parents and children to have regular eye examination and wear glasses. And parents should remember not only to limit the total screen time for their children, but also to encourage them to spend time outdoors.

Generally, winter walking presents dangers.
Above all, you should dress warmly. The best way to dress for cold weather exercise is to wear more layers. When you warm up from the exercise, you can take off layers so you will never become over heated.

8 . Nowadays, children spend less time in the fresh air. Many of them are addicted to a screen either on a computer or a TV—they seem to be living in a virtual world. They have lost touch with nature.
But now 400 organizations in the UK, from playgroups to the National Health Service, are encouraging children to have some “wild time”. They want kids to swap at least 30 minutes of watching TV or playing computer games for time playing outside. Activities such as building dens, climbing trees, rummaging for conkers and playing hide and seek are just some of the things kids can do. Even if they live in a city, they can go on adventures in the garden or the park.
Children often need a helping hand from mum and dad. They need to be shown what to do and where to go. Andy Simpson from National Health Service says, “We want parents to see what this magical wonder product does for their kids’ development, independence and creativity, by giving wild time a go.”
So despite the complicated world that young people grow up in now, it seems that going back to basics and experiencing “nature’s playground” is what modern children need. David Bond from Project Wild Thing says, “We need to make more space for wild time in children’s daily routine, freeing this generation of kids to have the sort of experiences that many of us took for granted.”
This might sound a bit old-fashioned to you or maybe, like me, it’s made you think about sticking on your boots, getting outdoors and reliving your childhood. There’s no age limit on enjoying yourself!

10 . Playing sports is a lot of fun. Getting hurt is not.
Wear protective equipment.
The equipment you wear depends on the sport you play. Helmets (头盔) are the most common protective equipment. They protect your head while you’re playing football, baseball, softball, and so on.
Warm up.
Know the rules of the games.
Traffic lights help prevent crashes between many cars that run on the road together. This works because drivers know the rules and follow them—at least most of the time.
This is a really important one. If you love sports, you may want to get back in the games, even after an injury. But playing when you’re hurt is a bad idea.
Now you know how to prevent sports injuries. If you follow these rules, you can stay safer while you are playing sports.
A.Don’t play when you’re injured. |
B.Don’t do too much exercise. |
C.It’s the same with sports. |
D.It can lead to an even worse injury. |
