2 . In a crowded migrant (移民) camp in Tijuana, Mexico, a three-year-old girl wandered ________ toward the exit. She was steps from a busy road. Estefanía Rebellón was the only person who ________ her. The writer had just driven from Los Angeles with a group of friends to drop off food and clothing to a(n) ________ organization.

It was December 2018, a time when the US-Mexico border was seeing migrants from Central America ________ violence and poverty. Rebellón rushed over to the child and took her ________. “Where are your parents?” she asked anxiously. As the sweet smell of pears and apples spreads in the air, drawing a stream of visitors to the orchard (果园) in Karamay’s Baijiantan district, an elderly man is seen doing the rounds of it on an electric bike. Sometimes, he stops to water the trees or prune (修剪) the grass, determined to ensure every single tree reaches its full ________.

The ________ of this forest was once a dump (垃圾场). It was the man, Wang Yanming, who planted the trees many years ago, creating the shade visitors can now all enjoy on hot summer afternoons. Wang oversees the greening work, planting trees and flowers, and often helps people to remove ________ from the dump.

“In ________ days, strong wind turn sand particles and tiny rocks into arrows that ________ our hands and faces. I ________ wanted to do something to improve the situation,” Wang tells China Daily. 4 . As a teen, Ketie Steller suffered from a severe disease, her hair thinned sharply. Seeing this, her mother arranged for Steller’s first professional ________.

“To sit down and have somebody talk to me like a person and not just an illness, it helped me feel cared about and less ________,” she says.

After that, Steller knew she wanted her own ________ so she could help people feel the way she’d felt that day. A free haircut may be a ________ thing, but it can be a gateway to show value and respect.

5 . As a student researcher at UC Irvine, I need to use various software to collect and analyze data.

When l first started doing research, I found the QuPath software very _________ to use. There were a lot of different tools and a _________ amount of new vocabulary to learn. Luckily, another student who also used the QuPath software walked me _________ a lot of it and although she had her own _________ to work on, she was always ready to _________ any questions.

Once I graduate, I hope that the guide I wrote will __________ to help students for years to come.

6 . If you walk around the Rahway Trail (小路) in the South Mountain Reservation, you might spot more than leaves, trees and squirrels. Fairies might live among the leaves. Small _________ are hidden in the tree trunks and branches — a surprisingly sweet sight in an otherwise normal-looking forest.
