The Wrangell Mountains

Eligibility: All 9-11th grade students are encouraged to apply.

Work and live at the base of the Wrangell Mountains in an Athabascan Native village for three weeks. In this program, students will learn carpentry and power tool skills to participate in construction projects, ranging from home repair to woodshed building. You will live off the land and witness the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness.

4 . 2024 Illustration Competition

Enter the competition most respected and admired in the industry for creativity in illustration, the Communication Arts Illustration Competition. Selected by distinguished professionals, the winning entries will be distributed worldwide in the Communication Arts Illustration Annual and on commarts.com, ensuring important exposure of the creations. What To Enter With

Any illustration first published or produced from Jan. 2023 to Jan. 2024 is qualified. Entries may originate from any country. Descriptions in English are necessary for the judges to read.

Entries Can Be Submitted In The Following Formats

Digital Images: RGB images in JPG format with a maximum file size of 2 MB. GIF images may be livelier, but would be turned down, and so would the PNG ones.

Motion Entries: In MOV, MP4 or MPG format, with a maximum file size of 500 MB.

6 . Khalifa State School

Years 1, 2 and 3 Swimming

From October 19^th to November 24^th, students in Years 1, 2 and 3 will be participating in a “Learn to Swim” program as part of their learning in Health and Physical Education. Students will be grouped according to their ability. All students are connected to attend all lessons unless they are injured or ill. Students will undertake six lessons.

7 . Welcome to Scottish Storytelling Centre, Edinburgh — a vibrant arts venue with a seasonal programme of live storytelling, theatre, music, exhibitions, workshops, family events and festivals.

The Centre’s idea is summed up nicely by the old Scottish saying, “The story is told eye to eye, mind to mind and heart to heart”. The main draw is its programme of spoken-word performances, most of which take place in its 100-seat basement theatre. The storytelling doesn’t just happen on stage, though. The ground floor has a large, airy room used for exhibitions, workshops as well as a monthly story session for tots(Tiny Tales for one-to three-year-olds).

Exit through the gift shop

No gift shop! Better than that, the Centre has an independent bookshop, which specializes in fables, myths and folk stories. Many are classics passed down from generation to generation, although contemporary (当代的) material also exists in abundance. Kids’ books are plentiful. Contemporary highlights include LariDon’s Serpents and Werewolves and Janis Mackay’s The Selki e Girl. Also worth a look is Animals, Beasties and Monsters of Scotland by Lea Taylor, which forms part of The History Press’s superb compilation of regional Scottish folk stories.

Getting there

The Centre is in the middle of Edinburgh’s Old Town, at the eastern end of the Royal Mile. It’s a five-minute walk from Waverley railway station. Driving in the city centre is to be avoided; the nearest bus stops are on the High Street and North Bridge. For more information, visit Lothian Buses.

Value for money

Reasonable. Entry to the ground-floor space is free, although all the theatre performances are ticketed. Prices for shows vary, with the average around £8 for adults and £6 for children. Café Voices, the Centre’s monthly storytelling night, is £5.
