1 . Going back to campus every September can be stressful for most students. However, some universities in China manage to make this process easier.
Hebei University
Teachers from the university recently held a treasure hunt challenge to lighten up the atmosphere of getting back to campus for students. Teachers hid coupons (奖券) in surprising places around the campus, such as the top of bookshelves or the bottom of basketball hoops. Students who managed to collect the coupons were rewarded with gifts, including books and stuffed toys.
Zhejiang University
Has carrying your suitcases up and down in your dorm building been a headache? Zhejiang University has come up with some interesting methods to solve this problem. They use a scaling ladder to lift luggage from the first floor. Instead of sweating buckets, students can sit in their dorms and wait for the suitcases to be transported to them.
Chengdu University
Getting along with roommates can be tricky when everyone has different habits and personalities. Chengdu University offers a “roommate-selection system” based on big data. After students fill out the questionnaire, including questions about their hobbies and sleeping habits, their roommates will be automatically assigned (分配) by the system based on their preferences. This way, students have more control over who they share their room with.
With considerate teachers and a personalized atmosphere, students will be more ready for the upcoming semester.

DOT Proposes New Rules
On Aug. 3, 2022, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) issued a briefing regarding airline consumer protections related to flight cancellation and travel delays.
While there are already DOT rules regarding airline refunds in case of a canceled or significantly delayed flight, the definition of “significant delay” was not clearly defined, and its meaning is left to the interpretation of the airline, The vagueness of old rules often did not benefit travelers.
How New Rules Help Passengers
DOT’s new proposal seeks to outline a more precise definition of what constitutes a significant change in flight schedule
●Domestic flights: A change in departure or arrival time of three hours or more
●International flights: An arrival or departure delay of six hours or more
●Airport changes: A change in departure or arrival airport
●Experience: A significant downgrade in comforts or conditions onboard the flight
Laying down these guidelines would allow DOT to enforce the fair practices regarding consumer refunds when flights are changed.
Taking public health concerns into consideration, the rules propose that passengers who cannot fly due to specific pandemic-related reasons should be protected. The new rules would require ticket agents and airlines to provide passengers with travel credits.
Limitation on Airline Responsibility
There are limitations to the airline’s responsibility, just as the DOT’s current refund rules state. An airline is not required to give are fund due to a passenger’s personal issue or unsatisfactory travel experience. The airline is also not responsible for hotel room costs or other incidentals associated with passengers needing to wait for a new flight or alternative mode of transportation.

8 . Popular English digital dictionaries
U-Dictionary
This app provides three different explainers: “Basic”, “Advanced”, and “Mastery”. Beginners can look up translations of a word in their mother tongue, while more advanced speakers can learn different ways to speak English like a native. The app also has a fast and accurate word scanner (扫描仪). Scan a word with your phone’s camera and the definition will pop up. The app also contains word quizzes, and listening and writing exercises to help you master English.
Dictionary
The app has plenty of functions, including a dictionary, a thesaurus(类义词典), a “Learners” function, and an “Origins” page. The “Learners” function is very useful for students of the language, as it provides information on how the meaning of a word can change in different contexts, or with other words. The app also provides word quizzes, articles about how language is used, and a “Word of the Day” section on the app’s homepage.
Oxford English Dictionary
The best feature of this app is that it allows you to look up definitions of words even as you’ re reading things in other apps on your device. The benefit of this app over others is that you can sort your saved words into folders or categories. Unfortunately, one of the major shortcomings is that there is no thesaurus or offline dictionary.
Merriam-Webster
Unlike other apps that require you to download a bunch of packages before you can access them offline, this dictionary works with or without data on your device. There is also an option to shift between dictionary and thesaurus mode. Sadly, because this app has so much to offer, the drawback is a few advertisements, which pop up once in a while.
