文章大意:本文是一篇应用文。文章介绍了格拉斯哥博物馆对参展物品所规定的展示标准和要求。

1 .

This document sets out the display standards for Glasgow Museums. This guide will help exhibition planners provide access to exhibitions in our museums. Glasgow Museums’ aim is to improve access to collections by having as many items as possible on display and without physical barriers. We also try out best to protect these objects without limiting access to them.

Object Placement

• Don’t place objects in such a way that they could present a danger to visitors.

• All object displays, cased or otherwise, must be viewable by all, including people who are small in figure or in wheelchairs.

Open Display

• All objects on open display must be secure from theft and damage.

• All objects identified for potential open display must be viewed and agreed on an object-to-object basis by the Security Manager of the museum.

RecommendationsDistance

Recommended distance to place objects out of “casual arm’s 700mm length” (taken from the edge of the object to the edge of any proposed form of barrier)

700mm

*In some cases, 600mm may be acceptable, provided the plinth height is above 350mm.

Cased Objects

• All cased displays should fall within the general optimum (最优的) viewing band of 750-2000mm. Ensure everything is visually accessible from a wheelchair.

• Position small objects or those with fine detail in the front part of a case, with larger items behind.

• Position small items or those with fine detail no higher than 1015mm from floor level. Objects placed above this height are only seen from below by people in wheelchairs or people who are small in figure.

1. From this passage, we can learn that Glasgow Museums ________.

文章大意:本文是篇说明文。文章主要讲述许多电视公司、媒体公司都利用体育节目来吸引观众以获得广告商的投入,从而获取收益。

2 . The amount of income is increasingly made on the sales of commercial time provided by television companies. Many television companies have used sports to attract viewers from particular sections of the general public, and then they have sold audiences to advertisers.

An attraction of sport programs for the major U. S. media companies is that events are often held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons — the slowest time periods of the week for general television viewing. Sport events are the most popular weekend programs, especially among male viewers who may not watch much television at other times during the week. This means the television networks are able to sell advertising time at relatively high prices during what normally would be dead time for programming.

Media corporations also use sports to attract commercial sponsors that might take their advertising dollars elsewhere if television stations did not report certain sports. The people in the advertising department of major corporations realize that sports attract male viewers. They also realize that most business travelers are men and that many men make family decisions on the purchases of computers, cars and life insurance.

Golf and tennis are special cases for television programming. These sports attract few viewers, and the ratings are unusually low. However, the audience for these sports is attractive to certain advertisers. In is made up of people from the highest income groups in the United States, including many lawyers and business managers. This is why television reporting of golf and tennis is sponsored by companies selling high-priced cars, business and personal computers, and holiday trips. This is also why the networks continue to carry these programs regardless of low ratings. Advertisers are willing to pay high fees to reach high-income consumes and those managers who make decision to buy thousands of “company cars” and computers. With such viewers, these programs don’t need high ratings to stay on the air.

1. Why would weekend afternoons become dead time without sport programs?
A.Because there would be few viewers.
B.Because the advertisers would be off work.
C.Because television programs would go slowly.
D.Because viewers would pay less for watching television.
2. The ratings are not important for golf and tennis programs because ________.
A.their advertisers are carmakers
B.their viewers are attracted by sports
C.their advertisers target at rich people
D.their viewers can afford expensive cars
3. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Television ratings are determined by male viewers.
B.Rich viewers contribute most to television companies.
C.Sports are gaining importance in advertising on television
D.Commercial advertisers are the major sponsors of sport events.

文章大意:本文是一篇应用文。文章介绍了电话和网络诈骗的现状和形式,举例说明了不同的诈骗类型,并且提出了需特别警惕的情况,提醒公众注意防范。

3 . Beware of Phone/Online Scams(诈骗)

Have you been the victim of a phone/online seam? If you ever think that there’s really no reason to worry, just remember the following statistics.

—315,000 cases broken in 2015-2017 in China.

—More than billions of money involved.

—Victims of 19 years old top the list in terms of age.

—Victims of 18-25 years old account for 52.4% of the whole.

—……

And here in below we are sharing 4 typical types of Phone/Online scams and how to deal with them.

Hello, this is XX police station, you're involved in a case of money laundering(洗钱)(or some other financial crime). We need your cooperation with the investigation……Please transfer your money into the national security account.
Tip 1: If you are really involved in financial crime, police will visit your home at the first opportunity and take you for investigation. Police are not so dumb as to inform you via telephone. And there is no such thing as national security account.
Hey: Wang(he may know your name). Drop by my office tomorrow morning. BTW, I will be treating some VIP clients soon. I need you to transfer some money into this account. It will refund your money tomorrow.
Tip 2: Think about it. How could any boss in the world ask you for money? Meeting VIP clients without a cent in his pocket? And why doesn't he ask you to give the money to him in person? He is nobody but a scam!
You've got a package which contains illegal drugs or goods. You are now requested to call this number to contact the Public Security Bureau. (Then it all follows scenario预设).
Tip 3:
Public Security Bureau WILL NOT deal with cases via phone calls. NEITHER WILL they send out notification via message.
(In some cases the number is disguised as authentic bank number through software). We are sorry to inform you that you have a bank overdraft. Please contact this customer service representative. His number is XXXXXXXXXX.
Tip 4:
DO NOT panic. REMEMBER to dial the official contact number of the back to double check.

When receiving phone calls/emails from unidentified resources, please pay special attention if the conversation involves any of the following:

●bank cards

●lucky draw

●Transferred to government authorities, including but not limited to police, court/judge, etc.

●secured account

●refund related to online shopping

None of the above business will be carried out on phones or via emails/unofficial website links. So you may just treat them as spams.

Moreover, how to safeguard yourself?

●Never transfer money without face-to-face confirmation.

●Only do business online with those you know and trust or on the official website of the online retailer.

●Protect your personal information, including photo-ID numbers and copies, bank account and passwords.

●Don't trust website links in emails or text messages without verified sources.

●Never believe in Pie in the sky. If something is too good, it won't be true.

A.Statistics imply it's unnecessary to worry about the situation.
B.The number of those who are cheated is on the rise.

A. prizes B. program     C. stages       D. contestants     E. seek       F. right
G. normally H. asking     I. benefited J. incorrect        K. broadcasted

Honestly speaking, I’m not a huge fan of TV. When I’m at leisure, I’d rather browse some websites or enjoy a nice movie online. Anyhow, I do have a favorite TV     1    —“Happy Dictionary”, which is a quiz show. In this program, a wide range of     2     are offered to the winners. It’s kind of like “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”, a famous quiz show in America.

In the beginning, the hostess will introduce the five    3    . Then they will be presented a question. The one who answers the question correctly and quickly will be given an opportunity to take the quiz. The quiz is divided into three or four     4    , I can’t remember exactly how many right now. Anyway, the contestant can get each prize after going through each stage. The prizes are randomly decided by participant himself before the quiz, e.g. a computer, a laptop, a digital camera, a free package holiday, things like that. There are three questions in each stage, The way the hostess asks these questions makes the quiz more difficult. For example, when the contestant has given an answer, the hostess will confuse him by asking whether he is sure or not. Someone might at this time change the     5     answer into a wrong one. I really enjoy this part. The contestant can     6     help for only three times during the whole procedure by calling a friend,     7     the audience to vote for the right answer or letting the computer erase one of the wrong answer. Most of the questions are multiple choices.

This program     8     lasts for an hour and is usually     9     at 9:00 pm. For all these years, I think I have     10     a lot from watching this quiz show. Unlike all the sitcoms (情景剧), this is the kind of program in which I can get to participate and rack my brains (苦思冥想).
