Towner Writer Squad (班组) for kids aged 13-17
Led by comedy and TV writer, Marian Kilpatrick, Towner Writer Squad will meet once a month at the contemporary art museum for 11 months, starting 12 October, 2024.
The FREE squad sessions will include introductions to a wide range of writing styles, from poetry to play writing and lyrics to flash fiction, to support the development of young writers.
Application &Selection
If you would like to apply to be part of the Towner Writer Squad, please send a sample piece of your writing (about 500 words), responding to the title “LUNCH,” with your name, age, address and e-mail address to: debo@newwritingsouth. com.
Once all applications are in, you will be invited to an open selection event on 17 September, 4 — 5pm,at the gallery of Towner. This will be an informal opportunity to meet the Squad Leader, Squad Associate and other young people. You will also have a chance to get to know the fantastic gallery space and get a taste of what’s to come.

Beginner Writing Project for kids aged 10 — 13
Due to popular demand, a writing project will be started for eager beginners.
Start time: 6 September, 2024
Meet every other Saturday, 2 — 4pm, at the Towner Study Centre.
Study and write at your own pace-you do not have to rush-as you have a year to go through the project. Practise under the guidance of some experienced writers and teachers who can help you with basic writing skills. Most importantly, build confidence and have fun while writing!
No previous experience or special background is required. Many others have been successful this way. If they can do it, why can’t you? Fee: £179.

3 . Want to explore new cultures, meet new people and engage in meaningful pursuits? You can do all the three with Global Development Association (GDA). No matter what life stage you’re at, wherever you go, and whatever project you undertake with us, you’ll create positive changes in a poor and remote community.
We welcome volunteers from all walks of life and backgrounds. While the majority of our volunteers are between the ages of 17 and 24, we’re currently in need of volunteer managers aged 25to 75, who play a very important role in the safe and effective operation of our programs. Our positions include project managers, mountain leaders, and communication officers.
Your chosen role could vary from enhancing a community’s access to clean drinking water to preserving valuable local cultures. Or perhaps you might design adventure challenges to train our young volunteers.
Not only will you be aiding the personal growth of our young volunteers, but you’ll also be picking up new skills and expanding your cultural insights. You’ll likely meet individuals who could become lifelong friends.

Class schedule (日程安排)
The class is held in Room 203 every Monday and Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. You are expected to attend every class and to arrive on time. Please speak with the instructor about any unavoidable absences.
Assignments (功课)
We will use the text Spanish for Health-care Workers. Students are required to read one or more chapters before each class (see reading schedule). In addition, each student will prepare an oral presentation to give to the class before the end of the term. The Language Laboratory, Room 228, is open Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. In addition to attending class, each student must complete a weekly exercise in the lab.
Grading
There will be four to five tests throughout the term in addition to a midterm and a final exam. Missed tests or exams will count against your grade; there will be no make-ups. The breakdown for calculating (计算) each student’s final mark is as follows: tests and exams — 50 percent; oral presentation — 30 percent; class participation — 20 percent. A grade of B or higher is required to pass this class.
Assistance outside class
If you need extra help or would like to discuss anything with the instructor, my office hours (Room 320) are 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. The Language Lab staff is also available to help you with your assignments. In addition, individual Spanish instructors are available. Please talk to the staff in the Language Lab for more information about instructors.

5 . Welcome to Our Clubs in Masonic Village
☆Art Club
The Art Club provides a place for aged people to paint, improve their artistic talents and show their works of art. Members can also sell items that they painted. The money raised goes toward providing painting supplies for club members. Anyone may join the Art Club, whether you already know how to paint or you want to learn how to better express your creativity. Painting supplies are provided by the club for free.
Time: Wednesdays, Thursdays & Sundays from 1 p. m. to 3 p. m. in the Freemasons Cultural Center Art Studio.

☆Computer Club
This club is meant for aged people with little knowledge of computers. Various topics are discussed at each meeting about computers（such as the Internet, software and email）as well as related technologies. The club has a computer lab with high-speed Internet connection. Members of the club have free access to the computer lab.
Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p. m.to 3 p. m. in the Computer Resource Room on Level 2 of Smith North. Open general lab sessions are available for free.

☆Tai Chi for Arthritis
Arthritis is a common disease for old people. The joints（关节）in the patients’ body often hurt badly. Tai Chi for Arthritis is designed to improve the quality of life of those people who are suffering from arthritis using Sun-style Tai Chi. This style includes quick-moving steps and exercises that may improve mobility, breathing and relaxation. The movements don’t require deep bending.

LifeguardBecause summer is the busiest season for pools and beaches, lots of summer jobs exist for strong swimmers. Lots of positions can be found at community and neighborhood pools, while those who live near the coastline can also find positions at public beaches. These jobs are a great opportunity to build your fitness, keep people safe and be outdoors to enjoy some fun in the sun. The average hourly wage for lifeguards is $9.50.
Camp Counselor (辅导员)Students, who enjoy spending their time with children, being a leader and experiencing fun outdoor activities are often the perfect fit for camp counselor positions. Students studying science, for example, can work at a science camp, while those with a creative talent can work at an arts-focused summer program. The average hourly wage for camp counselors is $9.28, but those with years of experience or specific academic backgrounds may earn more.
Sales Associate (助理)Students with a skill for persuasion and helpfulness often enjoy sales associate jobs. Students interested in business, finance or sales/marketing are often attracted by these roles, but they’re also a great fit for anyone seeking a low-pressure summer position or even just a discount at their favorite store. The average wage is $10.20 hourly.

In this advertisement method, the advertiser pays the publisher to place their advertisements in the publication.
Radio advertising
Radio advertising dates back to 1920, when the first commercial radio stations were launched in the United States. In this advertisement medium, the advertiser pays the radio station to play their advertisements during selected breaks between music or a radio show.
Television advertising
Television advertising originated in the 1940s with the promotion of practical items and political campaigns. In this advertisement medium, the advertiser pays the local or national TV network to show their advertisements during selected breaks in the network’s regular programming.
Internet advertising
Internet advertising took root in the middle of the 1990s. In this advertisement method, the advertiser pays the website owner to place their advertisements in exposed spaces that are minor to the website’s own content. Internet advertising includes video, search engine marketing, and more.
However, as you know, the advertising types above have developed dramatically since their respective origins. Some advertisements have been memorable years after they first ran.
