It was at the 2012 1SU World Figure Skating Championships that I first saw Japanese figure skater Hanyu Yuzuru. He was competing in free skating with a piece of music from Romeo and Juliet. I was    1     (immediate) attracted to his incredible     2    (perform) along with the expressive music.

Yuzuru has been     3    inspiration for me in my years as a senior high school student. In his career, he    4     (experience) innumerable difficulties and countless injuries so far. In 2014’s ISU Grand Prix, he was badly hurt on the ice due to a collision (碰撞). Though he was bleeding, he still insisted on     5    (compete) with no regrets. What’s more, in the 2018 Rostelecom Cup in Moscow, he couldn’t even walk because of a problem with the ligament (韧带) in his right ankle. But he ended up winning the championship and then    6    (award) the gold medal.

Yuzuru has always trained hard despite the suffering from asthma (哮喘). He bravely     7    (overcome) difficulties so he can dance on the ice and live life to the fullest. From 2012 to 2021, I have been inspired by Yuzuru’s spirit,    8    has helped me push forward no matter what. When    9    (face) with any problem that I think I can’t handle in life, such as being burdened with homework or when my grades are sliding (下滑), I watch videos of Yuzuru skating over and over again to search     10     hope and perseverance. After all, he succeeded against so much uncertainty. So how could I not face my own problems?

The home crowd erupted when China’s Eileen Gu     1    (win) the Women’s Freeski Big Air gold in Beijing. Gu jumped into the top position with her third run,     2     (score) 94.50. Her total score was 188.25 in the event’s debut at the Winter Olympics. The 18-year-old, who also goes by her Chinese name, Gu Ailing, is a freestyle skier, model and grade-A student with     3    American father and a Chinese mother. She grew up in the United States. It was there     4     she grew to love skiing. By 2018, she was representing the US in the world cup for the sport. Then, she decided to switch from representing the US     5     representing China. The decision met with shock and    6     (confuse) from her growing fan base but Eileen Gu was more than     7     (determine), sharing her reasoning on Instagram at the time. “This was an     8     (extreme) tough decision for me to make...Through skiing, I hope to unite people, promote common understanding, create communication and forge friendships between     9     (nation). If I can help to inspire one young girl     10     (break) a boundary, my wishes will have come true.”

Lionel Andres Messi was born in Rosario, Argentina in 1987. As Messi grew up playing soccer     1     his older brothers, his controlling and kicking the ball became as natural and easy as breathing, and he was quite    2    (satisfy) with his progress. At the age of 4, Messi joined a local team     3     (accompany) by his father. Starting at age 6, he played for six years with     4     older boys’ team. Around the age of 10, he     5     ( find) to have a growth hormone deficiency (生长激素不足). Because of this condition, he would never grow taller than 170cm.     6     Messi never stopped     7    (improve) his soccer skills or scoring goals.

In 2000, at the age of 13, Messi went to Barcelona, Spain. Futbol Club Barcelona (Barca), one of the great European     8     (team), was impressed with his skills for such a young player. Messi is now a master in soccer     10     has led his teams to win over 30 medals, including an Olympic gold medal. The soccer’s little superstar will achieve more goals in the future.

Lang Ping     1     is loved by fans at home and abroad not only brought honour and glory to China but led the China women’s volleyball team to medals at world championships and the Olympics. When, the Chinese team was preparing for the 2015 World Cup, her determination     2     (test). Her team was falling     3     as she lost two important players. But Lang Ping did not give up. She     4     (face) difficulties before, and she knew that her young players could win if they worked together as     5     team. Two weeks later, they were world champions! Then in 2016, Lang Ping led her volleyball team to Olympic gold in Brazil.

Michael Jordan,     6     (know) as “Air Jordan”, changed basketball with his graceful moves and jumps. Jordan’s skills were impressive, but his mental     7     (strong) made him unique. In the final seconds of a game, Jordan always seemed     8     (find) a way to win. Jordan’s secret to success is learning from his     9     (failure). Losing games taught him to practise harder and never give up. In life, Jordan has learnt to share     10     (he) success with others. The Boys and Girls Club he started has been helping young people since 1996.

Organized by Beijing Normal University, an important forum (论坛) on the spirit of the Chinese women’s volleyball team     1     (hold) on Saturday in Beijing. Around 500 people from     2     (differ) fields attended the forum.

Giving nice speeches,     3     (professor) shared their views on the spirit of women’s volleyball and on the building of sports power. Lang Ping, chief coach of women’s volleyball team, also shared     4     (she) opinions, which made a deep impression on all the audience.

Cheng Jianping, the Party chief of Beijing Normal University, said in his speech that women’s volleyball has influenced people     5    (deep), and encourage them     6    (work) hard for their aspirations (抱负). The spirit of women’s volleyball has not only showed patriotism (爱国主义)     7     also brought faith (信念) and courage to people     8     are facing new challenges. So far, China     9    (enter) a new period, and it should continue to carry forward this spirit. Meanwhile, this spirit should be closely connected     10     patriotism education, Cheng said.
