1 . Scotland is packed with beautiful places to visit and you could honestly spend months and months exploring everything this wonderful country has to offer! Next I’m going to take you through some of the best place to visit in Scotland, based on where we have personally visited so far!
Glen Coe
If you asked me where my favourite place to visit in all of Scotland is... I would say, Glen Coe. The whole area of Glen Coe constantly had my face in shock due to the beauty that I was witnessing1 was witnessing (亲眼看见). It’s just a stream of dramatic mountains, lakes, rugged (崎岖的) beauty and more.
Fort William
Fort William is probably one of the most well-known places to visit in Scotland. It’s a popular tourist destination thanks to being home to the UK’s tallest mountain: Ben Nevis. Fort William is also the starting point for one of the world’s most famous train rides: The Jacobite. Harry Potter fans will recognize it as the Hogwarts Express, and this train ride will take you through the beautiful countryside, crossing some iconic Harry Potter filming locations such as the Dumbledore’s Grave and the Glenfinnan Viaduct!
Isle Of Skye
This island feels totally different from other parts of Scotland and is truly rugged and ready! There are many hot spots to explore including the Old Man of Storr, the Fairy Glen. I even stayed on a private island with its very own lighthouse, which was one of the coolest places I’ve ever visited and one of the most romantic places stay in Scotland.
Cairngorms National Park
This is the largest national park in the UK so it’s another popular place to visit in Scotland and it’s no surprise why. It’s absolutely beautiful and there’s so much happening at the Cairngorms National Park! From skiing or meeting local reindeers, you’ll not go bored and you’ll be surrounded by beauty the entire time.

3 . Tristan da Cunha
This British island group stands in the South Atlantic. The nearest landfall is South Africa, 1, 750 miles east. It’s the world’s most remote inhabited(有人居住的)island chain. There are no package tours for independent travelers, no hotels, no airports, no holiday reps, no night clubs, no restaurants, no jet skis nor safe sea swimming. There are around 10 sailings a year from Cape Town, South Africa, and Namibia, each taking five to six days to reach the islands.
Bouvet
Its cliffs(悬崖)are sheer. It’s almost entirely covered by a glacier. In winter, its seas are pack ice. And its nearest neighbor is Antarctica, 1, 000 miles to the south. The entire island is a nature reserve—so unless you can make a convincing case for visiting, you’ll be blocked by Norwegian authorities. Only arctic geological and marine biology surveying teams can get the permission. Visitors can only be landed by helicopter.
Bishop Rock
Regarded as the world’s smallest island with a building on it, Bishop Rock stands at the end of Britain’s Isles of Scilly. In 1847, engineers started building an iron lighthouse there but it was washed away in a storm. Its extraordinary successor, first lit in 1858, stands to this day. The St. Mary’s Boatsmen’s Association runs daily trips. But even on a “calm” day, you’re in for serious waves.
Boreray
Sixty miles off mainland Scotland, you’ll find the archipelago(群岛)of St. Kilda, with a main island, Boreray, which was abandoned in the 1930s when crops failed. Imagine the surprise of archaeologists when they found that Boreray was occupied in prehistoric times. Since Boreray comes under the protection of the National Trust for Scotland, you need its permission to visit. You also need lots of time and lots of luck— with a rugged shoreline and fierce sea waves, this isn’t an island for landings.

6 . In the middle of the Pacific Ocean lies the tiny island nation of Tuvalu, the fourth smallest country in the world. This group of four islands and five atolls (islands made of coral rock) is famous for its sandy beaches and turquoise (青绿色的) waters and has long been a popular tourist destination for nearby New Zealanders. However, the nation of Tuvalu is at the risk of soon no longer existing, not because of war or political change, but because it will be covered by the rising ocean.
Tuvalu is experiencing the harmful effects of global warming. As the global temperature rises, so does the ocean temperature. Due to the scientific law of “thermal expansion”, when water heats, it gets bigger.
Even before Tuvaluans began to suffer from the effects of climate change, the life in Tuvalu was tough.
More serious than Tuvalu’s lack of home-grown food has been its lack of drinking water.
Tuvalu’s problems have led some of its 11,000 inhabitants to consider migrating to Australia or New Zealand.
A.It was a desperate situation and, but for emergency shipments from New Zealand and Australia, many Tuvaluans would have died. |
B.This is largely due to the geological makeup of atolls. |
C.Unlike normal islands, atolls have no rivers or streams, which means that most of Tuvalu has no groundwater to be used for drinking. |
D.Tuvalu’s representatives demanded that nations should have a more responsible attitude towards emission controls. |
E.Therefore, the sea level is rising and for low-lying Tuvalu, this spells disasters. |
F.However, they are not willing to abandon the land of their forefathers so easily. |
G.And as a member of the United Nations, they are doing just that. |
7 . A nickname is a shortened form of a person’s name. A nickname can also be a descriptive name for a person, place or thing. Many American cities have nicknames. These can help establish an identity, spread pride among citizens and build unity. Nicknames can also be funny.
Los Angeles, California is the second largest city in population, after New York City. Los Angeles has several nicknames. One is simply the city’s initials, L.A. It is also called the City of Angels because Los Angeles means “the angels” in Spanish.
Los Angeles often has warm, sunny weather. So another nickname is City of Flowers and Sunshine. New York is called The Big Apple. So Los Angeles is sometimes called The Big Orange because of the fruit that grows in that city’s warm climate.
The American motion picture and television industries are based in Los Angeles. So it is not surprising that it is called The Entertainment Capital of the World. Many films are made in the area of Los Angeles called Hollywood. Millions of people visit the area. No trip to Los Angeles is complete without seeing the word “Hollywood” spelled out in huge letters on a hillside.
Many movie stars live in Los Angeles. The city is sometimes called Tinseltown. This nickname comes from the shiny, bright and often unreal nature of Hollywood and the movie industry.
Another nickname for Los Angeles is La-La Land, using the first letters of Los and Angeles. This means a place that is fun and not serious, and maybe even out of touch with reality.
The city of Los Angeles is part of Los Angeles County. There are many smaller cities in the county. Beverly Hills, with its rich people, is one of them. So is Pasadena, with its Rose Parade each New Year’s Day. So are the coastal cities of Santa Monica and Malibu, where people like to ride surfboards on the Pacific Ocean waves.
A good place for watching unusual-looking people is Venice, an area on the west side of Los Angeles. A system of waterways designed after the Italian city of Venice has been built there.
Many people love Los Angeles for its warm sunny weather, beautiful mountains and beaches, and movie stars. That includes Randy Newman, who sings about his hometown.
