文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了美国联邦贸易委员会发布了一项建议规则,禁止公司撰写或销售虚假评论,购买正面评论,压制负面评论,并打击虚假评论和其它误导消费者的行为。

3 . Those of us who shop online may scan customer reviews to get a better sense of products we can't judge for ourselves at a physical store. We may check out online testimonials before booking a haircut or visiting a new restaurant. But what happens if some of those reviews can't be trusted?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently announced that it was proposing new measures to crack down on fake reviews and other practices used to mislead consumers. The commission published a proposed rule that would prohibit companies from writing or selling fake reviews, buying positive reviews, suppressing negative reviews and more.

“Our proposed rule on fake reviews shows that we're using all available means to attack deceptive advertising in the digital age,” Samuel Levine, director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection, said in a statement.

Research shows people overwhelmingly consult online reviews, but humans are also bad at telling which consumer reviews hold water and which are nonsense.

That's potentially worrisome given that nearly one in every three reviews is fake, according to one estimate.

In arguing for the proposal, the FTC cited enforcement actions it had taken against companies that manipulated reviews of their products.

In 2022, for example, the commission forced the online retailer Fashion Nova to pay $4.2 million to settle allegations (指控) that it blocked negative reviews from being posted on its website — the first FTC action involving a company's effort to hide negative reviews. For its part, Fashion Nova said in a statement to The New York Times that the FTC's allegations were “inaccurate” and that it only settled the charges to avoid “the distraction and legal fees”.

Comments on the proposed rule have to be received within 60 days of its publication in the Federal Register, after which the FTC will decide whether to issue a revised final version.

1. What is the main purpose of the FTC's proposed rule?
A.To improve the quality of products and services.
B.To protect the interests of physical stores.
C.To ban negative reviews from online platforms.
D.To ensure true reviews are presented to customers.
2. What does the underlined phrase “hold water” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A.Be credible.B.Be prejudiced.C.Be official.D.Be misleading.
3. Why was Fashion Nova forced to pay $ 4.2 million in a settlement in 2022?
A.To delete negative reviews of its products.
B.To post customer reviews on its website.
C.To resolve allegations of deceptive advertising.
D.To prevent it from facing further criticism and legal fees.
4. What can be inferred about the proposed rule?
A.It is well-received.B.It is still under review.
C.It has proven to be effective.D.It has encountered opposition.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,人工智能、5G、云计算和其他数字技术不仅在改变我们的生活,也在塑造经济。由此讲述了e-CNY (数字人民币)的功能,性质和特点等。

4 . AI, 5G and other digital technologies are not only changing our lives but shaping the economy as well. China’s six major commercial banks are stepping up digital wallet efforts to provide new trend for the e-CNY (电子人民币) trials in the country. The purpose, China’s bankers said, is not aimed at taking the place of privately-run payment platforms, such as Alipay and WeChat Pay. Instead, this official electronic payment system is being done so that all cash in circulation(流通)can be followed.

Compared with Alipay and WeChat payments, e-CNY features anonymity(匿名) and security. E-commerce platforms that accept payments via e-CNY will not have access to users’ personal information. E-CNY users can open an anonymous digital wallet by registering a mobile phone number, and their information won’t be revealed to any third-party institutions. E-CNY users’ privacy protection is at the highest level among all the existing payment tools.

Similar to Alipay and WeChat payments, using e-CNY requires an account. After getting the other party’s account number, users can enter the amount of digital money to be paid and then enter the password to complete the transaction(交 易). However, the processes behind these transactions are different. For electronic payments, the money has to go through a third party, and the receivers will get the money only when they withdraw it from banks. But e-CNY transactions only need a payer and a receiver. Therefore, it guarantees risk-free payments, helps prevent financial crimes and improves the efficiency of transactions.

In simple terms, e-CNY can be considered “money”, while electronic payments are like “wallets”. The successful launch of the e-CNY may change the existing market structure, which is mainly dominated by Alipay and WeChat Pay now. The banks may return to a leading position in the digital currency system. But China’s central bank won’t get more money into circulation, since every yuan issued digitally will basically cancel one yuan circulating in physical form.

1. Why are commercial banks in China making efforts on e-CNY trials?
A.They aim to cut down the use of bank cards.
B.They want to get rid of paper currency.
C.They intend to track the cash in circulation.
D.They plan to replace privately-run payment platforms.
2. What can users benefit when using e-CNY compared with electronic payments?
A.People won’t worry about their private information exposure.
B.People can finish the transaction without any password.
C.People can do the transaction at a very low fee.
D.People can withdraw money from banks free of charge.
3. What does the underlined word “dominated” in the last paragraph mean?
A.designedB.accessedC.controlledD.neglected
4. What can we infer from the last sentence of the passage?
A.More e-CNY in circulation will disturb the normal economy.
B.The e-CNY will shake the position of real paper money.
C.The e-CNY has a promising future.
D.The e-CNY has the equal functions as the paper currency.

5 . In business, as in life, good leaders hope for the best and plan for the worst. There’s a reason that experts refer to the regular expansion and contraction of the economy as the business cycle.

Even producers of the most recession-proof products—toiletries, beer, funeral services—need to consider how rising and falling consumer sentiment will affect their bottom line.

Of course, timing the next downturn is easier said than done. So as we head into a new year, we reached out to the Fast Company Impact Council—a leadership group of 200 founders, executives, and creatives—to gauge how some of the smartest and most innovative people in business are thinking about a possible recession.

About 4 in 10 respondents told us they expect the global economy in 2020 to perform about the same. But remarkably, nearly 45% predicted that the next 12 months would be worse for business. Only 16% said that the global economy would be better.

Impact Council members were more like-minded about the timing of the next downturn. While 21% predicted a recession would hit in 2020, the majority (54%) said it would likely arrive in 2021, after the next presidential election. About 15% responded that the next recession would come in 2022. Only 1 in 10 said the economy would continue to grow until 2023 or later.

1. In business, what is a good leader hope for?
A.Earn lots of money as possible.B.Make the best plan for the worst.
C.Sell out the whole products.D.Predict the economic trends in the future.
2. How many people predict global economy in 2020 will be better?
A.nearly 45%.B.less than 15%.C.over 54%.D.only 16%.
3. When will the economy most likely grow again?
A.In 2020.B.In 2021.C.In 2022 .D.In 2023.
4. What is the best title for this passage ?

文章大意:这是一篇说明文,主要介绍了季节性是商业的重要组成部分,对于一些行业来说,季节性是其重要标志。

6 . Seasonality is a big part of business. For some industries, seasonal patterns are a defining feature. Agriculture is one obvious example; tourism another. Western toymakers notch up a huge proportion of their annual sales during Christmas. Construction is harder during cold weather, when that industry employs fewer people.

Firms less obviously tied to the seasons can still be deeply affected by them, as a recent review by Ian Hohm of the University of British Columbia makes clear. An analysis of social-media posts on the Internet found that dieting-related posts peak in the spring, as the season of body dysmorphia(变形) approaches.

Even when overall demand doesn’t vary greatly between the seasons, preterences change. Beef-eaters buy roasts in the slow-cooking winter season and plump for steaks during the summer months. Starbucks is among those firms that make seasonality a marketing event. The pumpkin-spiced latte is a reliable sign that autumn is on its way, along with falling leaves.

Seasonality also leaves a less obvious imprint(印记) inside organisations. This week, with so many bosses stuck on a mountain for the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, productive employees can get on with some work and lazy ones can relax. School holidays offer an obvious form of seasonality, when employees without children are upset that they are covering for colleagues on holiday, and colleagues on holiday are upset that they have children.

Pay decisions are seasonal events, too. The time when employees find out their salary rises and bonuses sets off disappointment and happiness in all workplaces. In some, they are more like tsunamis. The actual date on which bonuses are paid matters too—once the money is safely put in the bank, people are more likely to move jobs.

There are other forms of corporate seasonality. While there isn’t much research on the impact of seasonality within firms, it’s certain that they have their own annual rhythms.

1. Why do people focus on dieting in spring posts according to the analysis?
A.They want to take time to get refreshed in spring.
B.They fear the summer heat will ruin their health.
C.They fear summer will reveal their body shapes.
D.They suffer a lack of proper food during winter.
2. What does the underlined part “plump for” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Throw away.B.Decide on.C.Rule out.D.Turn up.
3. What troubles childless employees during school holidays?
A.Being unable to relax in the absence of the boss.
B.Staying in step with the change of the seasons.
C.Accompanying the children of their colleagues.
D.Sharing the work of the employees with children.
4. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Companies Have Their Own Seasonal Rhythms
B.School Holidays Have an Effect on Companies
C.Corporate Seasonality Has Vast Social Effect
D.Employees Must Watch Beyond the Seasons

7 . Can people in developing countries benefit from free trade? I quite think so. The most common advantage of free trade is fewer or no barriers between countries. This allows a freer flow of labor and goods between member countries. As free trade agreements become more common around the world, the positive influence on developing countries has been considered as one of the greatest successes of them. There are several advantages for developing countries that take part in free trade.

As developed countries are able to move their operations into developing countries, new job opportunities open up for local workers. Increased levels of employment lead to a higher standard of living and more consumer purchasing. This finally does good to the country's economy and may help to develop locally-owned businesses. As locally-owned businesses develop, more local people can find jobs there.

Child labor exists in developing countries for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is lack of technology. Free trade allows companies to spend more money on equipment and pay higher wages to adult workers. With higher family incomes, children are able to attend school rather than work.

Not only does free trade allow foreign-owned companies to establish themselves in developing countries, it also allows native companies to sell products to foreign markets. This is particularly true for small businesses in developing countries. These companies no longer have to worry about barriers to market entry and can sell their products freely.

An increase in employment levels and incomes in developing countries can lead to better medical care there. The final result is an increase in the average life span and a drop in infant deaths.

As is shown above, we can say that free trade really benefits developing countries.

1. What does the underlined word "them" in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.Positive advantages.B.Developing countries.
C.Free trade agreements.D.Barriers between countries.
2. According to Paragraph 2, free trade allows developing countries to have ________.
A.more higher-skilled jobsB.higher employment rates
C.higher market competitivenessD.more foreign-owned companies
3. If developing countries take part in free trade, children there ________.
A.don't have to workB.can receive higher wages
C.don't have to attend schoolD.can learn more about new technologies
4. What does the writer mean by saying the underlined part in Paragraph 4?
A.Small businesses can get more skilled employees.
B.Free trade provides small businesses with new markets.
C.Foreign-owned companies can sell their products to developing countries.
D.Free trade can lead to greater competition between foreign and local companies.

8 . The sharing economy has grown in recent years to include everything from apartment sharing to car sharing to community tool sharing. Since 2009, a new form of sharing economy has been appearing in neighborhoods throughout the US and around the world—— Little Free Library. The libraries are boxes placed in neighborhoods from which residents can withdraw (取出) and deposit (存入) books. Little Free Libraries come in all shapes and sizes. Some libraries also have themes, focusing on books for children, adults, or tour guides.

In 2009, Tod Bol built the first Little Free Library as a gift to his mother, who was a devoted reader. When he saw the people of his community gathering around it, exchanging conversation as well as books, he knew he wanted to take his simple idea further. “I think Little Free Libraries open the door to conversations we want to have with each other,” Bol said.

Since then, his idea has become a movement, spreading from state to state and country to country. According to Little FreeLibrary.org, there are now 18,000 of the little structures around the world, located in each of the 50 US states and 70 countries in Europe, Africa and Asia.

The Internet has helped to spread Little Free Libraries. But an Atlantic article says the little structures serve as a cure for a world of e-reader downloads. The little wooden boxes are refreshingly physical and human. For many people, the sense of discovery is Little Free Libraries’ main appeal. “A girl walking home from school might pick up a graphic novel that gets her excited about reading; a man on his way to the bus stop might find a volume of poetry that changes his outlook on life,” says the Atlantic article. “Every book is a potential source of inspiration”.

1. How do Little Free Libraries get their books?
A.The communities bought them.B.Tod Bol donated them.
C.US government provided them.D.Citizens shared them.
2. Why did Tod Bol want to build more Little Free Libraries?
A.They can offer neighbors more chances to talk.
B.He was inspired by the sharing economy.
C.He wanted to promote his idea worldwide.
D.They are a gift to please his mother.
3. What does the author of the Atlantic article believe?
A.Little Free Libraries are more popular than e-reader downloads.
B.E-reader downloads are undoubtedly beneficial.
C.Little Free Libraries are physical and human.
D.The Internet has helped to spread Little Free Libraries.
4. Little Free Libraries attract readers most because ________.
A.they are in various shapes and sizes
B.they are located all over the world
C.they connect strangers together
D.they may give readers a sense of discovery
