Much of the research on CQ has been conducted by Soon Ang, a professor of management at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Ang_______ an international team of programmers to help solve problems.

These programmers were some of the brightest minds in the business, but Ang soon found that they have difficulty working _______. Often, individual members would appear to agree on a solution, but then carry it out in completely _______ways.

These findings led Ang to team up with British psychologist Christopher Earley. Together, they built a theory of CQ, which they defined as "the ability to function effectively in a variety of cultural _______.”

A high CQ could be essential in a wide range of careers, from bankers and soldiers to scientists and teachers — anyone, who regularly interacts with people from different backgrounds. A Young Designer’s Way to Fashion Success

Chinese designer Zhang Yan,     1     work has just hit New York’s and Chinese catwalks (T台), is slowly breaking the old idea about men in embroidery (刺绣) and fashion. Zhang has surprised the world with his unique embroidered Qipaos.

10 . Father’s Day is a fairly new celebration in the British calendar compared with Mother’s Day, which has been a very popular and well celebrated festival in the UK for a very long time.     1     It was inspired by the actions of an American man named William Smart.

William had a happy family but his wife died giving birth to their sixth child.     2     No doubt it was unusual back in those days. His daughter, Sonora Dodd, realised when she was an adult what her father had done for his children. It was one day in the early 1900s, and she was listening to a lecture talking about the importance of Mother’s Day.     3    

And so the tradition was born. It was set on the third Sunday every June, close to the anniversary (周年纪念) of Sonora’s father s death. Britain took the idea of Father’s Day from the American celebration and it has been celebrated officially since the 1970s. Father’s Day is never quite such the big commercial event that Mother’s Day is.
