Waking up at 7 in the morning, 25-year-old Fan Yupei cleans up,     1     (water) flowers in the courtyard, and then opens the door of her Jun porcelain (钧瓷) production studio, ready for a new day’s business.

Life in her hometown, Shenhou town, in Yuzhou City, is much     2     (happy) for Fan, who quit her job in Beijing and started her own studio with her husband. People will connect to their cultural group through similar food patterns. Immigrants often use food as    1     means of keeping their identity. People from different backgrounds eat different food. The areas     2     families live influence food likes and dislikes.

However, a 38-year-old craftsman, Li Jiangzhong, is devoted to     2     (keep) the art of sugar painting alive.

Li worked as a miner for more than ten years. After the mine closed down, Li turned     3     housing decoration until he     4     (force) to give that up due to a finger injury. Earlier this year, he discovered sugar painting, something he really had     5     interest in.

Since there was no sugar painting craftsman in his village, he studied by     6    (he) through large quantities of videos and information on the Internet. Cave No.12 of the Yungang Grottoes (石窟), the 1,500-year-old masterpieces of Chinese Buddhist art, has been recently “moved” to the Zhejiang University Museum of Art and Archaeology by 3D printing technology,     1     (bring)the grottoes to the wider world.

Cave No.12,14 meters deep,11 meters wide and 9 meters high, also known     2     the Music Cave, was carved with rich images of heavenly figures and     3     (music)instruments from home and abroad. These figures represented the     4     (early) royal symphony orchestra (乐团) in ancient China.

Wang Hongmei, a master in the Forbidden City, specializes in restoring damaged paintings. “I found conservation of paintings extremely    1    (challenge) at the beginning when I often had to stand for hours all day long due to the nature of the work.” Wang    2    (recall). “Commitment and time    3    (gradual) calmed down my heart.”

It takes a seasoned conservationist like Wang a whole year    4    (restore) just three to four paintings. Sometimes the work could take even    5    (long). A scenic painting over 170 square meters in size,    6    was created by Emperor Qianlong for his retirement, was worn. Wang and her colleagues spent five years restoring the painting to its previous brilliance.

“These treasures are not simply individual items,    7    heritages (遗产) of the craft and spirit passed on by the artists, collectors and conservationists of the past,” Qu Feng, one of Wang’s     8    (workmate), said. “Strengthened conservation efforts symbolize increasing national power and    9    (proud). If we can protect our cultural heritage to the best of our abilities, our nation will come to believe    10    itself more firmly.”

Due to the efforts by the masters in the Forbidden City, the public now can have a further understanding of cultural heritage protection.

Every culture has its own ways to show friendship. On the islands of Hawaii, friendship is part of the “aloha spirit”. In the language of the Hawaiians who first       1     （settle）on the islands long ago, aloha had a very special meaning: to be with happiness.
