When to Go
May－June for wild flowers; July－September for hiking; September for harvest events like the Chestnut Festival (Baia Mare), Onion Festival (Asuaju de Sus), and Autumn in Chioar (Remetea Chioarului).
How to Get Around
Baia Mare is the region’s largest town and its transportation hub (交通枢纽). From Bucharest, the quickest choice is the 85minute direct flight to Baia Mare International Airport. Rent a car at the airport to travel regionally, and walk, hike, or bike in villages and rural areas. The Englishspeaking staff at the Maramures Tourism Office in Baia Mare (open on weekdays) can provide biking, driving, and hiking routes, plus information about public transportation and bike rentals.
Where to Stay
Small, familyrun guesthouses are located in many villages. Prices typically include breakfast or all meals. The Village Hotel in Breb has three guest rooms in the main house and three small houses, each restored or built using local materials.
Where to Eat or Drink
There’s a great restaurant offering traditional Maramures tastes beside the Casa Iurca de Calinesti Hotel, located next to Elie Wiesel’s birthplace in Sighetu Marmatiei. Weather permitting, sit in the courtyard and watch the chef roast a whole lamb or pig over the open fire.

2 . Canberra, the capital of Australia, lies in the southeast of the country. From this city, it is about 290 kilometres to Sydney, and over twice the distance to Melbourne. The former faces the Pacific Ocean, and the latter is dose to the Bass Strait through which ships from Sydney can enter the Indian Ocean.
When the Federal Government of Australia was founded in 1901, no one knew where Australia’s capital would be. The two cities of Melbourne and Sydney both wanted the honour. Instead, the founding fathers chose a piece of land between the two cities for the new capital. The government would build a new city called Canberra as the country’s capital.
In 1911, the government invited world leading architects to enter designs for Canberra in a contest. An architect from Chicago named Walter Burley Griffin won this international competition for the design of the new city. Construction began in 1913 but was interrupted by World War I (1914 〜 1918). Twenty-four years later, the construction was finished, but the government moved to this new city ten years before it was completed.
At one time, almost everyone in Canberra worked for the government. However, the city today has become a centre of education and a favourite place for tourists. Now people can hold a government job, or they can work in business. They also make a living by teaching or meeting the needs of tourists.
People find life in Canberra relaxing and pleasant. The city is surrounded by beautiful mountains where people can ski. There is a large man-made lake lined with beaches and parks in the centre of Canberra. Canberra is now Australia’s largest inland city. Many people living there come from other cities in Australia and other lands. Some come to Canberra to work, and others come here to escape from the busier way of life found in many other cities.

3 . What’s on at the London Canal Museum
While rules related to COVID-19 remain in place, there are no physical events in the London Canal Museum. The museum is now closed to visitors. Our programme of talks, on the first Thursday evening of each month, continues online and will remain online until we are able to resume (重新开始) talks in the museum and audiences are happy to come to them. This exhibition is online and also in the museum. It’s about the canal’s industrial past in the London Borough of Islington. The focus is on the industry but also the people who lived and worked and played beside the waterway. The date is yet to be decided.

Holiday activities for children will be put off until the winter holidays of 2022 and resumption will depend on government guidance in place at that time.

4 . Hello everyone! Meet my new friend Marco.He says Ciao! This means hello in his language. Marco traveled with me this month. When he showed me his country on the map, I was attracted by its shape. It looks like a high-heeled boot(高跟靴) in the Mediterranean Sea that’s kicking a strange-shaped ball. Can you find the name of this ball on the world map?
Marco told me that he loves cars and that his country is well-known for super-fast cars like Ferrari,Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati. Isn’t it cool? The people also love soccer here.They call it “Calcio.” He told me that they have won four World Cups. The most recent win was in 2006! When he shared this with me, he was very excited and full of pride.
We visited the country’s capital and I was amazed to find that it was more than 2500 years old! We walked around and soon it was time for dinner. Marco told me that people there eat pasta (意大利面食) at least once a day. The different sauces and toppings(酱汁和佐料)mean they never get bored of it. Also, they love including seasonal vegetables in their dinners. I couldn’t wait to enjoy the pizza and pasta with different toppings and sauces. The cappuccino and focaccia bread also made me happy. It’s no wonder that the world has adopted (采用) so much of their food! The people in this country celebrate many holidays and enjoy eating big meals with their family. The festive atmosphere (节日氛围) makes everyone happy.
I was lucky to travel to this country in March and enjoy the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, or La fiera del Libro per Ragazzi. It is held for four days every year. We also visited the Colosseum, Panthon, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which was really wonderful!Before I said goodbye to Marco, I made a promise to visit again. Wales Coastal Path
Wales is the only country in the world that has an official walking path covering its whole borders. The Wales Coastal Path is a footpath stretching 870 miles from Chester to Chepstow. Walking the whole thing might be demanding, but there are plenty of stretches that can be enjoyed over a day or two.
Southwest Coast Path
You need a fair amount of annual leave, a casual 52 days or so, to undertake this in one go. The route runs from Somerset all the way to Dorset, via rugged cliffs, cute fishing villages and surfing spots along the coastline. You can surely jump on to any point as you like, but you can't afford to miss all the pubs full of jokes and laughter on the way!
Coast to Coast Walk
This long-distance trail isn’t official, but popular in the country, taking hikers from the Irish Sea to the North Sea as it rolls into historic Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire. Following local footpaths, the route takes you through three UK National Parks: the Lakes, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.
Cleveland Way
You’ll want nine days to folly complete this hike, which explores both the North York Moors and the county’s world-famous coastline. Just make sure you allow enough time to properly enjoy spots like Roseberry Topping hill and pick up a gentle afternoon walk at Whitby’s clifftop church.

Li River

Huangluo Yao Village
It is one of the thirteen Yao ethnic (瑶族) villages in Longji. The ethnic group living here are all the red Yao ethnic people. A custom of red Yao ethnic is that all females should keep long hair. So Huangluo Yao Village is called the first long hair village in the world.
Elephant Trunk Hill
It is also called the elephant hill. The whole hill looks exactly like a huge elephant using its trunk to drink water of the Li River. Between the "trunk" and the "body" is a big round cave which looks like a full moon on the water, so it is named Moon-over-Water Cave.
