1 . Peru is famously known as “Land of the Incas”. A trip to Peru has been on my wish list for quite a while. It was finally time for me to visit the country.
My first day started in Lima, the capital of Peru. I met with the G Adventures representative (代表) here about the tour. G Adventures is an organization that helps you to connect with other like-minded people in small group-based travel adventures. They played a big part in helping to make Peru an unforgettable experience for me! In Lima, my representative discussed the plan of my tour, and I also had the chance to explore Lima in my own time, with many activities, including a city tour, show, biking tour, and more.
Day two had me taking a flight from Lima to Cusco. Many people visit Cusco for shopping but for me, the main reason for spending a day or two in Cusco was to acclimatize (适应) to the altitude (海拔). As I’d decided to reach the wonder of Machu Picchu, acclimatizing became important to avoid altitude sickness. I was happy to spend a day exploring Cusco. Cusco was once the capital of the Inca Empire. Today, it’s famous for its artists, paintings, clothing and traditional instruments. There’s something for everyone in this city.
The day finally came! Day three had me enjoying a lovely guided visit to Machu Picchu at sunrise. I had free time to explore the city on my own as well as with my guide. It was a lot to take in! I had to stop for a moment and felt the energy of such an ancient city. The history here was unbelievable and I will never forget my time here for as long as I live!

3 . It's just past 7 a.m.on a February morning in Maya Bay, several weeks after authorities reopened what is one of Thailand's most popular tourist attractions to the world for the first time since June 2018 following a massive restoration program.
In the hours to follow, a slow but steady flow of tourists becomes in great numbers as dozens of tourists make their way to the white﹣sand beach, phones at the ready as they take photos. Swimming is not allowed, though visitors can take a few steps in. It's disappointing, but a huge improvement over what visitors once experienced here.
Maya Bay is located in a Thailand's national park. The destination was made famous by the 2000 film The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. As the film's popularity grew,so did tourists' desire to visit the location where much of it was shot —Maya Bay.
"Around 40 years ago, Maya Bay was already a tourism destination, but mainly for Thai tourists because you didn't have speedboats at that time, " says Thon, a marine biologist and professor who requested authorities to close the bay four years ago. Over the years, the number of tourists rose from less than 1, 000 to as many as 7, 000 or 8, 000 visitors a day at its peak. On average, around 5, 000 people entered the bay each day.
In 2018, the Thai government closed the bay and began to restore the damaged ecosystem.
Since then, Thon and a team of fellow marine experts and volunteers have replanted over 30, 000 pieces of coral, much of it grown off the coast of a nearby island. Meanwhile, the wildlife also returned and has been growing. "Only three months after we closed the bay, the blacktip sharks came back and gave birth…so there are a lot of things happening in Maya Bay."

What if you don’t like some museums? Then don’t visit them! I’m not a massive fan of parks, so I would hardly ever end up in any park while travelling.

9 . A road trip is not just about taking in the scenery through the car windscreen. Instead, the changes in location let you increase the scope of your holiday. Here are four recommended routes.
CCR 200
It is a new coastal road trip showing off the hidden side of the Lake District. The route takes in various nature reserves as well as other attractions like beaches and castles. The road trip is aimed at campers of all kinds and has been divided into five sections that can each be done in a day.
The Explorer’s Road
The Road extends almost the entire length of eastern England, featuring some of the country’s hidden treasures and finest attractions. Along the way you can explore stunning beaches, spectacular countryside and historic landmarks, with plenty of campsites lining the route.
South West Coastal 300
The South West Coastal 300 is around the southwest of Scotland. It’s a fantastic way to discover one of the UK’s hidden treasures. Inland, there are demanding hills that provide a steep one to walkers and climbers, not to mention hundreds of square miles of forestry and rolling countryside where cycling enthusiasts can clock up the miles.
Atlantic Highway
The route roughly follows the line of the Atlantic coast. There are picturesque village views and you certainly won’t be short of things to see or do. And there is no shortage of stopovers. The only downside is that the roads round here are extremely busy occasionally, so if you want a more stress-free trip, try heading down out of summer.

10 . Debra Dolan was 21 and on her first trip alone when she first sent a postcard to herself. It was 1979, and Dolan, who grew up in central Canada, was visiting Vancouver for the first time. She was immediately blown away by the city’s beauty.
Although she was usually an enthusiastic diarist, Dolan was swept up in the excitement of the trip, and found she barely had a free moment. “I thought, ‘I don’t have time to write in my journal.’ And I didn’t travel with a camera,” Dolan said. “So when I went to Vancouver Island, or saw places in Vancouver, I determined, ‘I’ll just send a postcard to myself.’”
On the back of each card, Dolan wrote a paragraph or two about her impressions, thoughts and feelings, and then mailed it to her home address. Some 10 days later, Dolan returned home to a pile of postcards from herself. Receiving them, said Dolan, was “an absolute joy.”
“After I’d come to Vancouver, I realized, ‘Well, it’s easy to travel. And it’s easy to travel alone. I don’t have to be nervous about this,’” said Dolan. So she decided exploring the world was her first priority. From there, Dolan traveled on to Australia. Then she stayed on the road for months, traveling around the globe and writing postcards to herself.
Over about forty years, 64-year-old Dolan has sent hundreds of postcards to herself from trips across the world. Amazingly, they’ve all arrived. “They really tell me about—not only where I’ve been, but who I was that day,” said Dolan, who said looking over the postcard collection inspired her to reflect on “the experiences I’ve been able to have.”
For Dolan, the postcards to herself capture (捕捉) a moment and help enjoy it. “Those special moments in your life are uniquely yours. We may all see the same thing on our travels. But our experience of that day is all different,” said Dolan.
