1 . One of the main points of traveling is to relax and take a break from your normal daily life. But the truth is, we’re not always free to do what we like when traveling to a foreign country, and a US tourist learned that the hard way.
On Aug 12, the unnamed 41 -year-old man was beaten by a passerby after he was seen giving Nazi salutes (纳粹礼) again and again on a street in Dresden, Germany. Ever since the end of World War Ⅱ, Germany has strict laws forbidding the Nazi salute, as well as other symbols of Nazism.
In fact, most countries have their own taboos (禁忌).If you plan to travel overseas, it’s best to get familiar with these taboos before you start touring local sites. Here are some examples.
Singapore
You can get fined for a lot of things in Singapore, including feeding birds, spitting (吐痰), smoking in public, not flushing (冲) a public toilet after you use it, and eating or drinking on buses or trains.
Japan
You’re not supposed to wear your shoes in someone’s house, but you’re not supposed to take your shoes off outside the house either. Instead, there’s a small area inside the door called a “genkan” which is where your shoes should go. If you’re still not sure where that is, pay attention to what other people do and do the same.
France
French people don’t like it when you talk about money. It’s OK if you say that you want to quit a job because you aren’t paid enough money, but you should never say the exact amount. Money is considered to be a “dirty” topic in France.

3 . The ancient city of Chichen Itza in southern Mexico was one of the most powerful cities and one of the most powerful ancient cultures — the Maya. But today, no one lives there. It is only a group of old buildings. However, people from around the world still come to see it. People come to learn about its ancient culture, the culture of the Mayan people.
The Mayan culture began almost 3,000 years ago and grew in parts of Central America. But about 1,000 years ago a group called the Itza invaded the city and built new parts of the city based on natural wells. They named the city Chichen Itza, which means “mouth of the well of the Itza”.
The most interesting structure in Chichen Itza is the Pyramid of Kukulcan (库库尔坎金字塔), whose four sides all come together at one point at the top. Each side on the Pyramid of Kukulcan has 91 steps. And there is one more step at the top of the pyramid. The steps are as many as the days of a year. Some experts believe the Maya could have used this building to help them know when to plant crops. Each day the sun falls on a different step of the pyramid, which could be a way to follow the year.
The people of Chichen Itza especially designed one building to observe and study the movement of the stars and planets. Experts say that the observatory (天文台) is one of the most complex structures the Maya built. A set of steps went up and around the observatory tower. And there were windows in the tower. Each window had a purpose. Experts believe that a person looking through one of these windows could see particular stars on particular dates. The Maya might have believed that studying the stars could tell them the future.
Chichen Itza is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important part of the world’s history.

4 . Tips for Cycle Trips
Cycling has many advantages as a form of travel, as it is the fastest way to travel by human power, and slow enough to allow the type of local involvement that is impossible with powered travel. Cycle travel is a cheap form of transportation.
Distance
On level terrain(地形), without a headwind, a cyclist of average fitness on a touring bike can comfortably cover 60-120km a day. Distances of up to 250km a day are possible, but anything much beyond 120km will require considerable physical tension and not allow many stops to enjoy the places you visit. For many, 80-100km a day will be the most suitable distance to aim for, as it will give a sense of achievement and also leave plenty of time for meals and activities.
Geography
The gradient(坡度)of the trip will reduce your range. A basic rule is that for every 100 metres of altitude you climb, you should add an extra 15 minutes to your journey time. In hilly or mountainous areas, the easiest routes for cycling are downstream along major rivers, as overall they will be downhill. A long, roundabout route along a river will usually be easier than a short, direct route over a hill or mountain pass. However, it is worth bearing in mind that the most scenic routes often come from hilly terrain.
Eat
Food choice depends largely on where you are, so see the respective sections for more information about foods. As you will be working hard, it’s important to get enough energy in your food. On long trips away from major towns, there may be little quality food available, so be prepared to live on candy bars, prepared meat products and the like if the need arises.
Sleep
While you can take a tent with you, many hotels and especially campsites can accommodate cyclists. However, there are also some hotels that may be less used to accommodating cyclists. If you are exploring an unfamiliar place, asking about the accommodation spares you the search for a new place to stay after a long exhausting day of travel.
1. Which of the following distance does the author suggest to ordinary cyclists a day?A.90km. | B.50km. |

C.In a travel magazine. | D.In a science fiction. |

I will say something about a foreign place that I want to stay for a leisure time.It is Britain,an European country. Here is my reasons.First, there're lots of tourism destinations in Britain, with millions of people come from all over the world to enjoy.I am strongly attracting. Moreover, there are many great people I admired a lot.such as Shakespeare, Dickens and so on.
If I can go to Britain,I will spend at least one and two days in London. Then I will pay a visit to Shakespeare hometown myself to know him better. And I will visit to people in the countryside to have a better understanding of the local culture.

9 . Now it is time to go out to explore foreign lands and experience the different beaches that the world has to offer.
Anse Sourced’ Argent, Seychelles--With beautiful pale pink sand, clear blue waters, and rock formations that have been shaped by waves and time, this beach’s beauty is enough to land itself on the cover of a travel magazine. And it is one of the most photographed baeches in the world. And don’t worry about any waves as the shores and shallow waters are protected by a nearby reef(礁).
Maldives--Maldives is an island nation off the coast of Sri Lanka and one of the lowest nations of the world, Enjoy the soft sandy beaches, coconut-bearing palm trees, and a diverse sea life that surrounds you. But due to coral dying and rising sea levels, Maldives is expected to sink within the next 10 years. Freedom Beach, Thailand--Privacy(隐私) isn’t always so easy to find at a beach, but Freedom Beach in Thailand provides a much less crowded, more relaxing location to spend your time. With swimming, snorkeling(浮潜), and beach-side refreshments(点心,茶点), you are able to have the vacation that you deserve! Its neighboring beach, Patong, can get a little crowded and a bit crazy with the large number of tourists present, so escape via water taxi to enjoy yourself and a much cleaner shore.
Matira Beach, Bara Bora--The island's economy is driven by tourism, so you know that all of the locals want you to have a great time and come back soon with all of your friends. With a beach like Matira, that sounds like a great idea! You may recognize the island from Couples Retreat. Remember all of the over-the-water bungalows(平房) that were in the movie? Those were actually first produced at the beach and are standard features for resorts(度假胜地).
