文章大意:本文是记叙文。作者在文章中分享了自己在加拿大萨斯喀彻温省观赏鹤类迁徙的经历和感受,描述了当地的美景和与当地人的互动。

3 . I enjoyed this trip for the opportunity to witness the Cranes (鹤) returning from Wood Buffalo National Park, some with their young of the year. I wondered, at the changing skies of Saskatchewan, often the vivid oranges and pinks of a sunset made me pause, but it was the clouds clouds of feathers as ducks, geese, and cranes lifted off fields and lakes in numbers so numerous, they blocked out the sky at times, that blew my mind.

The desire to travel and explore is strong within the human condition. We might think we must journey “away” to enjoy a holiday, and sometimes we do. But other times, a simpler exploration, digging deeply into landscapes and cultures that we think we know. reveals the best sights.

I grew up in Saskachewan when cranes were fighting back from extinction, and I wasn’t a birdwatcher. But, returning with Eagle-Eye Tours as a bird-loving RCGS Travel Ambassador, I wondered at the conservation successes that allowed us to find these rare birds reliably.

My favourite memory from the trip is of an old farmer driving a large trick who slowed down for our group, standing in the middle of a road, excitedly watching a flock of cranes. Rather than scolding us for blocking traffic, he invited us into his backyard for a better view! He explained how he’s been providing quiet reserves for many years as the birds stop to rest and feed before flying south to Texas. It’s moments like this that make the travel special, and companies like Eagle-Eye Tours craft itineraries (行程) that allow these unexpected discoveries.

I enjoyed sharing these experiences with other nature lovers on the Royal Canadian Geographical Society branded trip and look forward to doing it again in October 2024.

1. What do the changing skies indicate?
A.The worsening environmentB.The coming change of the weather
C.The imbalance of natureD.The success of protecting cranes.
2. What kind of trip did the writer make?
A.A trip of relaxation.B.A trip of exploration.
C.A trip of friendship.D.A trip of protection.
3. Why does the writer mention the farmer?
A.To explain why the protection goes well.
B.To describe how local people live their life
C.To show that farmers are friendly to tourists.
D.To prove that everyone is a true bird lover.
4. What is the farmer like?
A.Indifferent.B.Expert.C.Kind.D.Rich

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了作者对于卡迪根海湾的喜爱之情,卡迪根海湾给了作者归属感,并且可以让作者从事自己喜欢的户外活动。

4 . I’ve lived in Cardigan Bay (卡迪根海湾) in West Wales since I was a few months old. You’ve got everything you need here. Hills, stunning beaches, nice coastal paths. As someone who loves the countryside, I’ve never wanted to leave.

I was lucky to find work I could do in this area. A lot of people do have to move away in order to find work. I started Adventure Beyond here about 30 years ago and we work all over the UK. We go up to Scotland, we work along the Thames. We’ve also taken groups to Canada, the Himalayas, places like that. But honestly, West Wales has got everything. We can do everything we need right here.

Cardigan Bay is pretty huge, but I find having grown up here there’s a definite sense of belonging. There’s an awareness that we’re lucky to have these incredible sandy beaches, pebbly beaches, beautiful rivers, and hills. It’s peaceful, and it’s not overdeveloped. Of course, there are periods when it gets busy, but then the second schools go back and you pretty much get the beaches to yourself. There is a sense of community (群体) too, with a lot of good community-based clubs, such as the Poppit Sands Surf Lifesaving Club.

I set up Adventure Beyond to make my own work in the area. I love the outdoors, and I wanted to be in Cardigan Bay, so it was perfect. I’ve tried to always keep that personal touch. The clients (客户) will pretty much always meet myself and all the staff. We took a lot of people on through the Kickstart scheme (启动计划) and they’ve been employed with us for a few years. A lot of our clients have been with us since we started, too. There’s a sense of family, which is quite special.

I won’t mention a specific favorite place, but in general the beaches are just amazing. It’s just a sort of wild west, really.

1. What can we know from Paragraph 2?
A.The author is 30 years old.B.The author has to work in another city.
C.The author’s job requires a lot of travelling.D.The author can do everything in West Wales.

A.It’s undeveloped but beautiful.B.Its beauty hasn’t been noticed.

5 . Lake Titicaca is a freshwater lake in the Andes mountains on the border of Bolivia. It’s the largest lake in South America. Dotted along the lake’s western corner, you can find dozens of artificial islands. Several thatched (茅草的) houses and structures sit on each island, some of which are only 30 meters or so wide, although larger ones exist.

The floating platforms are built by piling layers upon layers of mixed totora roots and reeds (芦苇). The totora plant is necessary to life on the lake. Its strong root fibers are used to make houses, boats, roofs, mattresses, and more, as well as used to make tea, traditional medicine, and tasty dishes known as “lake banana”.

So the story goes, this unusual living arrangement came out in the pre-Columbian era when the ambitious Inc a Empire began invading (入侵) into the mainland villages of Uros. The Uros villages moved to Lake Titicaca where they built these floating platforms. If invading Inca came their way, the Uros could push these artificial islands out to the middle of the lake and flee their attack.

The threat of the Inca Empire has long passed, but the tradition remains strong. Even today, it’s estimated that around 1,300 Uros live on some 100 constructed islands on Lake Titicaca. Maintaining the lifestyle isn’t easy. While totora is a tough material, the thatched organic material degrades due to the forces of nature over time, meaning the islands and homes are in a constant state of repair.

However, the traditional way of life isn’t without its modern benefits. Many of the islands have solar panels that power lights, radios, and television satellites. The lake’s artificial islands have also become a must-see spectacle for tourists, with some locals even renting out their totora-thatched homes to travelers on online rental website Airbnb.

1. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.The value of the totora plant.B.The process to build the islands.
C.The islands made of water plants.D.The tradition and history of the Uros.
2. Why did the ancient Uros build artificial islands on the lake?
A.To live a nature-friendly life.B.To preserve their old lifestyle.
C.To build thatched houses on them.D.To protect themselves against enemies.
3. What do we know about the current life of the Uros?
A.They have lost their native language.
B.Modern devices have come into their life.
C.Tourism is their major source of income.
D.They’re tired of repairing the totora-thatched houses.
4. What is the purpose of the text?
A.To persuade.B.To educate.C.To advertise.D.To introduce.
