The freezing Northeast hasn’t been a terribly fun place to spend time this winter, so when the chance came for a weekend to Sarasota, Florida, my bags   were packed before you could say “sunshine”. I left for the land of warmth and vitamin C(维生素C), thinking of beaches and orange trees. When we touched down to blue skies and warm air, I sent up a small prayer of gratefulness. Swimming pools, wine tasting, and pink sunsets(at normal evening hours, not 4 in the afternoon) filled the weekend, but the best part- particularly to my taste, dulled by months of cold- weather root vegetables- was a 7 a.m. adventure to the Sarasota farmers’ market that proved to be more than worth the early wake-up call.
The market, which was founded in 1979, sets up its tents every Saturday from 7:00 am to 1 p.m, rain or shine, along North Lemon and State streets. Baskets of perfect red strawberries, the red-painted sides of the Java Dawg coffee truck; and most of all, the tomatoes: amazing, large, soft and round red tomatoes.
Disappointed by many a broken, vine-ripened(蔓上成熟的) promise, I’ve refused to buy winter tomatoes for years. No matter how attractive they look in the store, once I get them home they’re unfailingly dry, hard, and tasteless. But I homed in, with uncertainty, on one particular table at the Brown’s Grove Farm’s stand, full of fresh and soft tomatoes the size of my fist. These were the real deal- and at that moment, I realized that the best part of Sarasota in winter was going to be eating things that back home in New York I wouldn’t be experiencing again for months.
Delighted as I was by the tomatoes in sight, my happiness deepened when I learned that Brown’s Grove Farm is one of the suppliers for Jack Dusty, a newly opened restaurant at the Sarasota Ritz Carlton, where- luckily for me- I was planning to have dinner that very night. Without even seeing the menu, I knew I’d be ordering every tomato on it.
1. What did the author think of her winter life in New York?
A.Exciting.B.Boring.
C.Relaxing.D.Annoying.
2. What made the author’s getting up late early worthwhile?
A.Having a swim.
B.Breathing in fresh air.
C.Walking in the morning sun.
D.Visiting a local farmer’s market.
3. What can we learn about tomatoes sold in New York in winter?
A.They are soft.B.They look nice.
C.They taste greatD.They are juicy.
4. What was the author going to that evening?
A.Go to a farm.B.Check into a hotel.
C.Eat in a restaurant.D.Buy fresh vegatables.

4 . In America, Virginia Beach has all the elements of a classic seaside resort(度假胜地): brilliant beaches, a lively boardwalk, plenty of restaurants and nightspots, and amusement rides sure to appeal to kids. Many believe Virginia Beach is at its best in the off-season, when the town is less crowded but the weather is still mild.
Meanwhile, some safety tips should be followed, to enjoy the happiness and excitement the beach offers.
The number one safety tip concerns ocean safety: pay attention to Flag conditions posted on the lifeguard stands. Lifeguard post a red flag to warn when the ocean water is dangerous. Take them seriously! Tourists from land-locked regions are particularly easily attracted by the magic of the waves. However, a calm ocean can become risky without warning. Make sure you swim near a lifeguard. Swimming without lifeguard protection is almost five times as great as drowning at a beach with lifeguards.
Never swim alone. Many drownings involved single swimmers. When you swim with someone else, if one of you has a problem, the other may be able to get help, including signaling for assistance from others.
Don’t fight the current. The facts show that some 80% of rescues by lifeguards at ocean
beaches are caused by currents. These currents are formed by surf and gravity, because once surf pushes water up the slope of a beach, gravity pulls it back. This can create concentrated rivers of water moving offshore. If you are caught in a rip (撕裂的)current, don’t fight it by trying to swim directly to shore. Instead, swim parallel to shore until you feel the current relax, then swim to shore. Most rip current are narrow and a short swim parallel to shore will help bring you to safety.
1. When coming to Virginia Beach, children cannot enjoy the happiness of______.
A.walking on the road made of woodB.joining the nightspots
C.Riding a horse or a pumper carD.Skiing in the sea
2. Many people believe the best time to visit Virginia Beach may be____.
A.After autumn school term beginning
B.In the summer vacation
C.During the Christmas holiday
D.In the cold winter
3. From the passage we can know ____.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。介绍了长途汽车旅行就像一场电视节目,作者讲述了对于长途汽车旅行的一些感受。

7 . Long bus rides are like television shows. They have a beginning, a middle, and an end with commercials (商业广告) thrown in every three or four minutes. The commercials are unavoidable. They happen whether you want them or not. Every couple of minutes a billboard glides by outside the bus window. “Buy Super Clean Toothpaste.” “Drink Good Wet Root Beer.” “Fill up with Pacific Gas.” Only if you sleep, which is equal to turning the television set off, are you spared the unending cry of “You Need It! Buy It Now!”

The beginning of the ride is comfortable and somewhat exciting, even if you’ve traveled that way before. Usually some things have changed new houses, new buildings, sometimes even a new road. The bus driver has a style of driving and it’s fun to try to figure it out the first hour or so. If the driver is particularly reckless (鲁莽的) or daring, the ride can be as thrilling (惊心动魄的)   as a suspense story. Will the driver pass the truck in time? Will the driver move into the right or the left hand lane? After a while, of course, the excitement dies down. Sleeping for a while helps pass the middle hours of the ride. Food always makes bus rides more interesting. But you’ve got to be careful of what kind of food you eat. Too much salty food can make you very thirsty between stops.

The end of the ride is somewhat like the beginning. You know it will soon be over and there’s a kind of expectation and excitement in that. The seat of course, has become harder as the hours have passed. By now you’ve sat with your legs crossed, with your hands in your lap, with your hands on the arm rests even with your hands crossed behind your head. The end comes just at no more ways to sit.

1. What is the purpose of this passage?
A.To give the writer’s opinion about long bus trips.
B.To persuade you to take a long bus trip.
C.To explain how bus trips and television shows differ.
D.To describe the billboards along the road.
2. The writer of this passage would probably favor           .
A.bus drivers who aren’t reckless
B.driving alone
C.a television set on the bus
D.no bill boards along the road
3. The writer feels long bus rides are like TV shows because           .
A.the commercials both on TV shows and on billboards along the road are fun
B.they both have a beginning, a middle, and an end, with commercials in between
C.the drivers are always reckless on TV shows just as they are on buses
D.both traveling and watching TV are not exciting.
4. The writer thinks that the end of the ride is somewhat like the beginning because both are       .
A.excitingB.comfortable
C.tiringD.boring

I as well as my family are going to New York City this weekend. I had been looking forward to go there for a long time. It is one of the modernest city in the world. There have also a lot of museums where you can learn something you can’t learn it in school. I’d also like to see the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. Fortunately, the twin towers destroyed on September 11th, 2001 or I would have the chance to see them by myself. Now I am getting ready for the excited trip. I bet it will be a unforgettable experience.

9 . New restaurants, galleries, temples and new architecture…These places are homes for people like us who live and work there. How would you want visitors to behave in your own home? Think about it.    1    There are many ways of doing this without sacrificing our own holiday.

Do your homework    2    Guides will help you when you get to site, but is that the best place to go? Is it popular only because the one-day tourist can see it easily or because it is really a worthwhile place to visit? You’d better check it out.

3    Don’t go to your hotels for meals. Walk around, even if in the streets closest to your hotel. Eat in local restaurants.Talk to the locals. Learn a few in the local language and use them. You will surely get a smile from the hotel staff and street sellers .

Help preserve the sites. Most of the sites you visit may be visited by millions of people a year, so care needs to be taken to allow others to enjoy them as well. Some of these monuments are so old and fragile that they are sensitive to the touch of hands or bags and shows.    4    This way, you don’t encourage the use of those plastic bags that fly all over many sites.

And here’s the big one—good manners are nearly universal.    5    If that doesn’t sound like you, then give the world a break and stay home.

A.Experience the place.
B.Always have a cloth bag with you .
C.Read up on the places you want to visit.
D.Try to buy something from the local stores.
E.A good tourist is polite, positive and eco-sensitive.
F.We’ve cleaned up after ourselves and taken only good memories.
G.If we are good tourists, wherever we go, we try to make it a little better because of our visit.
