4 . Working from a shady balcony overlooking a vast sea, with five-star restaurants and golf courses within easy reach: what better place could there be to while away the pandemic (疫情) than Barbados?
Like most of its Caribbean neighbours, Barbados has been good at keeping COVID-19 out. Normally tourism brings in more than half of its foreign earnings. Now, many tourists are banned and the economy is declining. The tourism minister, Kerrie Symmonds, puts unemployment at close to 40%.
The prime minister, Mia Mottley intends to introduce a “Welcome Stamp” for visitors to “work remotely in paradise” for up to a year. The idea is that if holidays are not possible, then maybe the island can attract wealthy office workers who no longer have to go to the office. Other Caribbean islands are considering competing plans; Bermuda has announced one.
It did not take a pandemic for some digital workers to consider moving to a beach. But before now, it was legally difficult. Getting a work permit or immigrant status meant weeks or months of form-filling. Workers had to pay Barbadian income taxes. The new procedure looks quick and easy by comparison. For a fee of $2,000 for one person, or $3,000 for a family, you can take your Zoom calls from a real white sandy beach, instead of merely selecting it as a virtual background. You continue paying tax according to the rules of whichever country you came from.
There will be some checks on new arrivals. We do not want “the scum of the earth, but honest and respectable types”, says Mr Symmonds. Applicants must have health insurance, and the main breadwinner must earn at least $50,000. But otherwise the gates are open. “All must breathe, in this world and in this country.” says Ms Mottley.

5 . Recently, my husband and three kids were playing in Mediterranean(地中海),swimming and floating in the pictureperfect sea.It was ridiculously beautiful in Majorca,Spain. The way the sun danced across the water and how the blue horizon was dotted with storybook sailboats were such beautiful scenes.
My husband and I always dreamed about taking our kids on a trip around the world. It was one of the things we talked at length about. When we imagined our life with the children, we hoped we would have.
Fourteen years later, we had three boys who were growing up faster by the day. It was time to make good on those plans. We renewed our passports, and then packed our bags. We showed our kids the world. It was about experiencing the dozens of flights and trains and taxis together. We showed them how wonderful, how diverse, and how fascinating the world is. We wanted them to learn all that we had learned ourselves, through our own travels.
But there was something more than that:What we really wanted is to slow down time. We wanted the days to last a bit longer, and the weeks to take their time. The years with our children are going too fast. We wanted to put the brakes on our busy lives for a year, and just be with our kids. We wanted a break from the daily morning routine of making lunches, eating breakfast and going out the door in time for school. We needed family time out.
It was the wonderful two months in Europe, full of incredible moments. When we look back at our lives, I know we'll be glad we did it.I know we'll be happy that this is a chapter of the story of our family.

6 . New Zealand is a land of beautiful lakes, and as we were driving down from Christchurch to Mount Cook National Park, suddenly the large blue water of the Lake Tekapo appeared ahead with her arresting elegance. The beauty of New Zealand has remained complete over the years ,its natural glory still relatively unaffected. We stopped in our tracks to take in the beauty of the lake surrounded by the Southern Alps in the South Island.
While we were driving along the amazing beaches in the North Otago Coast, we stopped to see one of the nation's most fantastic attractions. In a small fishing village in Moeraki, there is a sandy beach full of strange spherical boulders(圆形巨石).“I have seen the most amazing rock structures in Stonehenge but never seen these extremely large boulders,” I said in amazement. One of the fellow travelers explained that according to the Maori legend(传说), once upon a time the Moeraki Boulders were gourds (葫芦). And they were actually used by ancient people for carrying food aboard on a famous canoe(独木舟)named “Araiteuru”. Then accidentally, the canoe crashed. They thought that the crash survivors were transformed into the area's surrounding hills, and the gourds were transformed into gray and spherical boulders.
I was interested in the spherical boulders and after a brief Googling during the trip, I came to know that millions of years ago, the rocks remained hidden inside the cliffs in the area and they gradually became visible. Then due to years of erosion they took the present forms and “The Food Basket of the World" made the place a popular tourist attraction. I tried to memorize the story as I realized how we are dependent on written records and how forgetful we are. The Maoris though considered as “illiterates” had such powerful memory that they used to pass on the stories to the next generation by means of oral literature.
