I have been living in Xiamen for more than six years, but every time I visit Kulangsu, it feels special. When I first visited the island, it felt like     1     (step) back in time, right into a time when people were closer to one another.     2     (casual) walking through the isle streets, bumping into an old friend, sharing a few     3     (word) with another visitor who crosses your path... Seemingly trivial (微不足道的) things but such precious experiences in our hurried modern paces of life.

Thanks to     4     (it) special mix of cultural and historical elements, Kulangsu makes you feel enriched, and makes you want     5     (know) more about its history. Moreover, thanks to the fact     6     it is a pedestrian-only island, visitors can enjoy long walks travelling the historical settlement.

Thanks to the     7     (unique), the island receives some 10 million tourists every year. Subsequently (随后), its preservation becomes     8     big challenge to the local government. In order to better manage visitor traffic on and off the island, there is an international ferry terminal that specifically     9     (cater) to sightseers. People living on the island and holders of a Xiamen Social Insurance Card can use the smaller, faster ferry located next     10     yet another top tourist spot in Xiamen, Zhongshan Pedestrian Road.

Kulangsu... Every time you go there, you’ll find a new spot. And a new story.

3 . Six Flags and another amusement park company shut down eight more thrill rides on Friday around the US after a teenage girl had her feet cut off at the ankle on a Superman Tower of Power.

State inspectors, meanwhile, returned to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom where the accident happened to examine the ride, which lifts passengers 54 metres straight up, then drops them nearly the same distance at speeds reaching 87kph.

It was unclear at what point during the ride the 13-year-old was injured on Thursday, said Wendy Goldberg, a Six Flags spokesperson.

The girl was taken to a hospital. Details of her condition were not immediately available on Friday.

Six Flags has shut down similar rides at parks in St. Louis, Gurnee, Illinois, and near Washington as a safety precaution, Goldberg said. Six Flags Over Texas, near Dallas, also has a Superman Tower of Power, but it is not the same ride, Goldberg said.

There were no reports of injuries on the ride before Thursday, she said.

“Millions of people have safely ridden this ride in our parks,” Goldberg said.

The accident led Cedar Fair Entertainment to shut down and inspect drop tower rides at five of its amusement parks as a precaution, company spokesperson Stacy Frole said.

Intamin, a Swiss company, made all the rides that were closed by both companies, said Craig Ross, a spokesperson for Cedar Fair.

“We're going to keep these things down until we're certain it’s safe," Ross said. "We'll wait and see.”

An email message sent to Intamin was not immediately returned on Friday.

The five Cedar Fair rides that will be shut down are at Kings Island near Cincinnati; Canada's Wonderland, in Toronto; Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia; Carowinds, in Charlotte, North Carolina; and Great America in Santa Clara, California.

1. Why did the amusement park companies shut down their thrill rides?
A.Because they went wrong.B.Because an accident happened.
C.Because they are not well received.D.Because of terrible weather.
2. What does the underlined word “precaution” probably mean in Paragraph 5?
A.Standard.B.Condition.C.Rule.D.Protection.
3. What can we infer from the passage?
A.Six Flags has shut down some rides at parks Charlotte, North Carolina.
B.There are five Cedar Fair rides to be shut down in California.

5 . Six years ago. something unforgettable happened. My wife, Liz, and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary that year. It was a lovely event hosted by our sons for us. Many wonderful friends from the past surprised us with presents and congratulations. Our gift to each other was a driving trip out west. We drove from Ontario into Alberta, then southward into Glacier National Park in Montana, and continued to Yellowstone National Park.

It was a cold spring day, and the Beartooth Highway had opened for the season just days before. Alongside the road, there was still a great amount of snow remaining. The seenery was so impressive that we made numerous stops to record memories with my camera. At roughly the highest point of the highway, I stopped at a lookout to catch the amazing views, with my wife in the center of my camera lens.

There were not many vehicles on the road. Occasionally, cars with energetic young tourists passed by. And then we heard a motorcycle in the distance. The driver of the motorcycle, in rags, parked behind our car. As he approached us, his only words were, “Give me your camera and get over there with your wife." I must admit I felt nervous that we might be robbed where we just created some beautiful memories. Surprisingly, he just took a picture of us, handed back my camera and rode off before we could express our gratitude. The photo he took is one of the most cherished and prized of our trip.

I learned my lesson somewhere I least expected it. God judges us just by our heart, so we should never judge a man by his appearance. If the motorcycle driver reads this story and remembers the situation, we would like to say "thank you" to him.

A.There is no best, only bette.
B.Don't judge a book by its cover.

3. The author was nervous when the motorcyclist offered to take a picture because _______.
A.the motorcyclist would break the camera
