2 . Missouri is a midwestern state lost in a never-ending sea of corn. However, somewhere hidden in these fields of corn lies one of the most impressive man-made lakes in the US, the Lake of the Ozarks. Built in the heart of Missouri, the lake was another destination on my 14-state road trip as I camped my way across America.
Surrounded by the beautiful Ozark Mountains from which it gets its name, the lake has become a mainstay in family weekend vacations since it was built in 1931. Known for natural beauty, the Ozarks remain a large tourist destination, bringing in over 5 million people each year. With choices ranging from basic camping to luxury resorts(高档度假胜地),the Ozarks have something to offer people from all backgrounds and budgets.
With more shoreline than the entire coast of California, the Lake of the Ozarks has become a favorite of boat and beach lovers alike. The huge 241-square-km lake is home to almost every watersport, ranging from something as simple as swimming to even the most extreme like parasailing or jet skiing. Although originally attracted to the campsites at the Ozarks, it was hard to resist(抵制) the call of the water and I soon found myself joining in on the fun.
Getting a respectable 4. 7 stars on Google by over a thousand reviewers, the lake has clearly held up its popular reputation. Although I did enjoy my one-person trip, I can strongly say that the Lake of the Ozarks is the most enjoyable when surrounded by friends or family. With so much to see and do, it can be overwhelming(应接不暇的)for a solo(个人的)traveler. Even with my packed three - day schedule, 1 still missed a majority of what this great location has to offer. As I plan for my next trip there, one thing is certain ---I'll make sure to share this fantastic experience with some friends!

6 . Ya Ting had taken me under her wing after hearing me speaking Chinese in a hotel in Lijiang. She had been hitchhiking(搭便车旅行) around China for months. She invited me to travel with her, which was how we ended up on the side of the road looking for a ride to the Tiger Leaping Gorge.Within 20 minutes, we had our first ride. The driver couldn’t take us all the way and ended up dropping us at a freeway crossroads. As a new hitchhiker, I thought that would be the end of our luck, but almost immediately we got another ride.
Our most unforgettable ride was when a twenty-something kid picked us up.He couldn’t take us the whole way so his uncle bought us lunch and a bus ticket for the rest of the journey. He felt it was his duty to help us find a way to complete our trip.It brought tears of joy and thankfulness to my eyes. This was the first time I understood how guests are respected(受尊重) in China.
A few weeks later, we said goodbye.I thought we had been so lucky because we had been a local(本地人) and a foreigner travelling together. But now Ya Ting was no longer around to do the talking, nor did I have someone to depend on if something went wrong. When I stood by a highway in Sichuan, I knew all about the difficulties before me.Now I was just a strange foreigner on her own who suddenly had to manage with poor Chinese.
After about 30 minutes, a couple picked me up and took me the whole eight hours to Chengdu. We ate lunch on the way, and they refused to allow me to pay for any of it, which I had come to learn was typical(特有的) of Chinese culture. This made me believe that people weren’t being friendly because of Ya Ting.

7 . France's Louvre Museum reopened on Monday after closing in March due to the coronavirus. But things are far from business as usual.
The world's most visited museum has carried out new measures, including a mask requirement and an online-only reservation system to protect art lovers from the virus.
One unintended consequence of these restrictions has been an experience devoid (缺乏的) of the usual crowds of tourists, which normally reach up to 50,000 people a day.
Freddie Keen, visiting from London with some friends, told NPR it was easy to take his time seeing some of the Louvre's top attractions. "It was definitely a much more comfortable experience seeing the Mona Lisa without having any peer pressure from hundreds of people staring at you and waiting for you to move on," Keen said.
Floor markers in the hall, where the Mona Lisa is held, have been put in place to ensure guests keep a physical distance of at least 3 feet. Visitors must also follow a one-way path through the building. A third of the museum is still closed to the public.
International tourists made up around 70% of the 9.6 million visitors in 2019. Museum Director Jean-Luc Martinez said he was hoping to attract more French tourists this summer because of the current travel restrictions.
"We are going to be at best 20 to 30% down on last summer," Martinez told Agence France-Presse, adding that the museum expects between 4,000 and 10,000 visitors a day.
During the four-month shutdown, the famous art destination lost an equivalent (等价物) of $45 million in ticket sales this year. However, France's tourism industry could soon get a much-needed boost. Last week, the European Union lifted travel restrictions on visitors from more than a dozen countries considered low risk for spreading the coronavirus. Because of the rising level of virus infections among Americans, the United States was not included on the list.
