Scuba diving
Miyako Island is a diving mecca (圣地), with a wealth of dive sites to explore, including many underwater caves and caverns. Even those without a diving license need not be held back. Dive shops and tour operators also offer beginners tours to explore Miyako Island’s abundant underwater environment.
The bridges
Irabu Bridge is the longest toll-free bridge in Japan. It connects Miyakojima and Irabujima, stretching for 3540m, drawing a gentle curve (弧线). The length of the bridge can also be read as “san (3) go (5) no shi (4) ma,” meaning coral island in Japanese. Smaller bridges connect Irabu Bridge and Shimoji islands, giving visitors additional beach options. On Shimoji Island, there is a boardwalk around Tooriike, two dramatic marine ponds connected to each other and the sea by an underwater cave system.

2 . Travelling can be a fun way to gain life experience, but what if you’re a student and don’t have enough money for a trip? Don’t worry. Here are some useful tips.
Save: This probably is the most important preparation for travelling. Cut expenses (花费) to fatten your wallet so you’ll have more choices about where to go and how to get there.
Plan ahead: Don’t wait until the last minute to plan your trip. Giving yourself several months to get ready can mean security and savings.
Do your homework: No matter where you go, research the places you will visit. Decide what to see. Travel books will provide information on the cheapest hotels and restaurants.
Plan sensibly: Write down how much you expect to spend on food and hotels. Stick to (坚持) your plan, or you may not have enough money to cover everything.
Travel in groups: Find someone who is interested in visiting the same places. By travelling with others you can share costs and experiences.
Work as you go: Need more money to support your trip? Look for work in the places you visit.
Go off the beaten path: Tourist cities may be expensive. You may want to rethink about your trip and go to a less known area. Smaller towns can have many interesting activities (活动) and sights.
Pack necessary things: The most important things to take are not always clothes. Remember to take along medicine in case you get sick and snacks in case you cannot find a cheap restaurant.

7 . On October 27, 2021, my friend and I boarded the first flight of our journey from Vancouver Island, to Peru, South America.
Twenty-four hours and four airports later we landed in Cusco, Peru, a city of one million people. Coming from Vancouver Island with only 100 feet above sea level, we knew that we were now at a much higher altitude (海拔) - over 11,000 feet- and needed time to get used to the scarcer oxygen (缺氧) levels! We followed the advice of other travelers and the locals: drink lots of coca leaf tea and rest for a couple of hours before any activity.
We were soon hiking through the ruins and surrounding ancient castles of Cusco. Leaving Cusco the next day, we stopped at the Moray Ruins, which were used for farming by the Incas. Their size and unique design should be considered a lesson in historical engineering skills. This Inca site is one of the least known tourist destinations, but it’s one of the most interesting places to visit.
Arriving in the beautiful Sacred Valley, we stayed at Willka T’ika for the next week. This place is wonderful. We enjoyed delicious vegetarian meals, all made with local produce by loving Quechua people.
You can’t go to Peru without visiting historic Machu Picchu. The “road” up to the ruins is made up of an endless series of switchbacks (急转弯), resulting in cold sweats. It was worth the ride, though.
It was too soon before we were leaving Peru. We learned the unique history of Inca, Quechua culture, and the farming methods still widely practiced. The best thing we took away returning home to Vancouver Island was how simple and caring the people are and how deeply they love the earth and everyone they meet.
