文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了几种理解和实践真正的生态旅游的建议。

1 . Don’t Get Lost in the Term of Eco-tourism

Given that tourism produces harmful emissions, the term “green travel” can seem contradictory. Green travel will not solve the climate crisis, but knowing what to look for can allow you to make choices that do less harm and more good if you do choose to travel.     1

Don’t get hung up on the terms.

The key to better understanding and identifying sustainable travel options is recognizing that it’s actually actions—not words—that matter. Definitions can vary from person to person.     2

Ask questions.

Before you book a tour or hotel, prepare questions. For example: Do they support the local economy? Are they ensuring the preservation of the natural environment?     3     However, if you can’t find answers on the website, contact the property or tour operator directly.

    4

You don’t have to plan a responsible travel and the ever-changing term alone. Contact organizations that provide training, accreditation and transparent standards. You can also join responsible travel communities on social media, where you can ask questions, share resources and learn alongside other travelers who share your values.

Start now.

You can’t do everything at once right away. Decide what you can do. Maybe it’s contributing to a conservation or community project.     5     Anyway, when you know better, do better.

A.Lean on and learn from others.
B.Find an operator who shares your personal values.
C.But it’s the truth behind the term that really matters.
D.Ask what the local government can provide you with.
E.Search for the answers such as data and policies on a company’s website.
F.Here are some expert tips on how to understand the vocabulary of green travel.
G.Maybe it’s immersing yourself in one destination rather than rushing around to see three.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。通过讲述作者在牙买加旅游后的感悟,作者之后改变了旅行方式,帮助当地居民发展经济。

2 . One of my first international trips as an adult was traveling around the Caribbean. I checked into my hotel in Jamaica and asked for a recommendation fora local place to eat. The receptionist (接待员) told me that never should I go into the town because it was really dangerous there, but that to my luck — the hotel’s restaurant offered wonderful Caribbean food.

I thought about it carefully: Did I really want to spend all my time on the beach without getting to know a single local?

I was a very inexperienced traveler and very young, but there was only one answer to my question: Absolutely not. I was not going to be visiting a new place and staying in a hotel chain. So out I went.

After only seeing fancy resorts (度假胜地), the reality was hard to swallow. The poverty (贫穷) hit me in the face. A few locals walked to me and were super curious as to what I was doing there in their town, since most tourists didn’t go there. I told them I was interested in meeting them and experiencing their culture. And just like that, I was embraced.

I met more local people, had some food, and then we danced the night away. They had so little, yet they wanted to share it with me. They wanted to make me feel welcome. And they absolutely did.

The next morning all I could think about was how all the money most tourists spend goes to big businesses. The locals have to be thankful if they get a job that pays very low wage, while foreign businesses earn millions.

I have always cared about environmental protection, but this trip made it clear that sustainability (可持续发展) goes well beyond nature and wildlife. From then on I always look for locally — owned hotels, eateries, guides, and souvenirs (纪念品). Sustainability, with everything it includes, became a motto (座右铭) for me and changed the way I travel.

1. What did the receptionist recommend to the author?
A.Safe resorts.B.Local souvenirs.
C.A tour guide.D.The hotel’s restaurant.
2. Why were the locals curious when they met the author?
A.Because the author traveled alone.
B.Because the author was a young traveler.
C.Because they seldom saw tourists in their town.
D.Because they wondered about the author’s experiences.
3. What can we learn about the locals?
A.They lived a hard life but were kind.
B.They were hardworking but earned little.
C.They had a rich culture but were shy to share it.
D.They were poorly educated but did business well.
4. Why did the author change the way he travels?
A.To reduce the cost of travel.B.To protect nature and wildlife.
C.To learn more about the natives.D.To help develop the local economy.

6 . It was a hot summer day, and I became thirsty. The sun was right above our heads, and my thirst became unbearable. My mouth was completely dry. We could see a village at the bottom of the mountain — four hours away, according to the smuggler. After a few minutes, however, we got to a small lake. The water was yellow and covered with algae, but the smuggler drank it and brought me a cup of water to drink. As I looked into the cup, I was reminded of the solution that we prepared in biology class in order to grow bacteria. This was the main source of water for the village. Who knows what microorganisms were swimming in that lake.

“I wouldn’t drink it if I were you,” my aunt said. But I closed my eyes and drank the whole cup at once. I would worry about the consequences later.

We reached the village just before sunset. After eating dinner and resting for several hours, we started to travel again. The night journey was magnificent. The sky was clear, the moon was full, and millions of stars seemed to be twinkling at the night travelers. We could hear the bells of another car a van coming from the opposite direction, getting louder and louder as it got close. The ding-a-ling of that caravan added a rhythm to the lonely desert.

Now we were on the land of the Freedom Fighters. We knew if they recognized the smuggler, they would kill all of us as spies. The Freedom Fighters and the Millitia are enemies to each other, and the Freedom Fighters did not trust anyone who was traveling with an agent.

At dawn we reached a small teahouse, where we had some tea and bread. We walked on, and soon a signpost got my attention. As I got closer, I was able to read the words: Welcome to Pakistan I started to cry, walking backwards to get one last glimpse of my beloved country.

1. The author hesitated to drink the water, because ________
A.it was prepared for biology classB.It was bitter to drink
C.only the villagers could drink itD.It might make the author sick
2. From Paragraph 3, we can learn that ________

7 . It is 10 in the morning, and I am travelling by raft down the Li River. The sun is already burning hot even though it has not yet reached full strength, but a calm breeze cools my skin. So far the day is wonderful, but the purpose of my trip is not just to have fun: I am following in the footsteps of Xu Xiake (1587 - 1641), the famous Chinese travel writer and geographer. Though Xu was from Jiangsu, he spent more than 30 years travelling throughout the country, and greatly admired my destination today - Ox Gorge.

As we flow down the river, we are surrounded by steep hills sticking up into the sky - karsts. Unique among mountains, karsts were formed over thousands of years as rain drained into the acidic soil and melted the soft rock, leaving the harder rock behind. Guangxi is full of karsts, giving it some of the most interesting - and beautiful - scenery in the world. Xu was one of the first people to make a careful study of Guilin's karsts and their related cave systems. He, like many people today, found them fascinating.

Suddenly, our raft hits some rapids, and I find myself covered in water. I turn to my raftsman and we share a laugh. The water not only keeps us cool, but it is all part of the adventure.

What made someone like Xu spend years travelling thousands of kilometres away from home? Perhaps it’s the same reason as mine: to explore the world and to discover new things. Yet, perhaps no one in China travelled farther or longer than Xu Xiake. At least, if anyone did they did not write about it.

When our raft reaches Ox Gorge, it proves to be every bit as beautiful as I expected - a watery heaven on earth. The raft is tied up, and then I head out to explore. That afternoon, I find a cave on the river. I wade into it and the water grows shallower, until finally I am walking on dry land. Up ahead I see a light and hear laughter echoing off the cave walls. There is a large pool of mud, and a group of young people are jumping into it and swimming around. I run and join them. Soon, like my new friends, I am covered in gray mud from head to toe. After an hour of play, I head back out of the cave and take a swim in the river to get clean. And I wonder, when Xu Xiake came here nearly five hundred years ago, did he examine the mud like a scientist? Or did he jump in? Of course he jumped in. You know he did.

1. Why did the author decide to go to Ox Gorge?
A.To have fun in unique mountains.
B.To make other people greatly admire him.
C.To travel farther and longer than Xu Xiake.
D.To explore the world and discover new things.
2. How did the author feel when he was covered in water?
A.Worried.B.Satisfied.C.Delighted.D.Annoyed.

A.He took a swim to get clean.B.He researched the cave walls.
C.He explored the shallow water.D.He jumped into the mud to play.
4. The author wrote the passage mainly to _________.
A.share his travel experience with readers
B.introduce the beautiful scenery of Guilin
C.remember the famous writer and geographer Xu Xiake

10 . Thanks to the hard work of companies like California-based Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC), space tourism is well on its way to coming true. Now, the company is working to offer a chance for space visitors to “get out of the world” by checking into the world’s first true hotel in low Earth orbit (轨道).

The 650-foot-wide Ferris-wheel-like Voyager Space Station (VSS) will be made up of two rings connected together. The inside circle will be fitted with spacecraft stations for guests while the outside ring will house the rooms, restaurants, bars, gyms, and scientific research labs. The hotel powered by the sun will travel at high speeds to create artificial gravity (人造重力), providing tourists a comfortable stay. When completed, it will have rooms for up to 400 people.

While the idea is attractive, making VSS a reality will take time and money. The team is now building a smaller prototype (雏形) ring. Once finished, OAC engineers will attempt to create artificial gravity. Transporting the VSS to space will cost thousands of millions of dollars. However, OAC believes that they will recoup the money by asking $5 million per person for each 3-day stay. Though the cost may seem too high, it is cheap compared to the 55 million it costs to stay on the ISS (International Space Station). Besides, guests at the Voyager Station will be living in the greatest conditions.

“You’re going to have the top cooks making really good food,’’ Orbital CEO John Blincow told the Washington Post. “There’ll be two shows every night as well.” Visitors will also be able to take part in the activities that are not possible on Earth such as spacewalks which allows visitors to admire views of Earth and space.

If everything goes according to plan, the company plans to start work in 2026 and welcome the first visitors in 2027. “If you are eager to be among the first, you can pay an amount of money to save your place ahead of time,” added John Blincow.

1. What do we know about the VSS?
A.It will be powered by electricity.
B.It will be made up of two squares.
C.It can travel fast to escape Earth gravity.
D.It can provide Earth-like living conditions.
2. What does the underlined word “recoup” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Recover.B.Waste.C.Spend.D.Save.
3. Why are John Blincow’s words mentioned in paragraph 4?
A.To praise the hard work of OAC.
B.To show the high-end service of the VSS.
C.To stress the importance of exploring space.
D.To present what life will be like in the future.
4. What is the main idea of the text?
A.It takes lots of time and money to travel to space.
B.Traveling to space has long been the human’s dream.
C.The world’s first space hotel hopes to welcome visitors.
D.Space tourism has been warmly welcomed since its beginning.
