Choosing a Caribbean vacation that meets the needs of young children, preteens and adults might seem like a challenging task. The following introduction may provide you with some choices.
U. S. Virgin Islands
With three islands to choose from, U. S. Virgin Islands appeal to families who like to combine beach time with a bit of exploration. Virgin Islands National Park on St. John offers this combination — and more — with 20-plus trails and access to popular Trunk Bay beach. Kids will also enjoy Coral World Ocean Park on St. Thomas, where they can swim with dolphins and sea lions.

Plus, this string of 700 islands boasts plenty of budget- and family-friendly resorts. One of the most famous resorts — Atlantis Paradise Island — even has its own 141-acre water park and the world’s largest open-air marine habitat for the young to enjoy. At the marine habitat, travelers can enjoy watching various aquatic animals swim by.
Cayman Islands
Grand Cayman, the largest and most popular of this three-island chain, offers families tons of ways to enjoy their time together. Adults and kids can sunbathe, build sandcastles and float in the Caribbean Sea at Seven Mile Beach, or swim with stingrays (刺魟) in the shallow water of Stingray City. To get up close and personal with more sea life, head to the Cayman Turtle Centre to interact with turtles of all shapes and sizes.
British Virgin Islands
Calm waters and pollution-free beaches attract travelers of all ages to the British Virgin Islands. 5 . A flood hit Yellowstone National Park on June 13, 2022. The disaster was caused by a combination of unusually heavy rains and rapid snow melt. The high and fast water flows destroyed bridges and swept away entire roadways, leaving communities and homes isolated. Fortunately, the approximately 10,000 park visitors were safely evacuated.
The town of Gardiner, along the Montana-Wyoming border, was particularly hard hit. The floodwaters left almost 900 people with no power or water for many days. Gardiner’s economy, which depends on the almost three-quarters of a million visitors who pass through the park’s north gate annually, is likely to take a hit. The floodwaters severely damaged the main north entrance road to Yellowstone, and could take years to rebuild.
Park officials have begun work on improving an alternative road to Gardiner. This will ensure that locals can access food, supplies, and other essential emergency services. A limited number of tourists may also be allowed into Gardiner once the road is stable.
Yellowstone’s north gate is closed indefinitely. But the park’s south gate opened to visitors on June 22, 2022. Park officials have started a new entry system to prevent overcrowding. It is based on the last number of the visitor’s vehicle license plate and the calendar date of the month. Cars with odd (奇数的) numbers can visit the park on odd days of the month, while those with even (偶数的) numbers can go on even days.
Established in 1872, Yellowstone is America’s oldest national park. The 3,472-square-mile reserve spans three states and is home to many unique wildlife. It is known for its natural beauty that includes mountains, rivers and lakes. The forces of fire and ice shaped the park over thousands of years.

6 . Hidden London: the Exhibition
Visit an “abandoned” Tube station underworld and discover what secrets are hidden beneath our busy streets in our new Hidden London exhibition at London Transport Museum!
Hidden London: the Exhibition takes you on a journey of some of London’s most secret spaces in the world’s oldest underground system. These “forgotten” parts of the Tube network have incredible stories to tell about Britain’s wartime past.
You can enjoy the largest number of rare photos and objects from disused stations that have been brought together in one location.
Discover stories about how Churchill took shelter at the height of the Blitz deep underground at Down Street station. See how shelterers lived down at Clapham South station, where they slept and how they kept entertained.
You can also explore other locations that we have recreated in our Global Gallery, including the historic abandoned ticket hall at Aldwych station with an original 1930s ticket office.
The exhibition uncovers why these “lost” parts of the underground network exist. Changes in population, economic priorities and political pressures have all led to spaces being abandoned. But they rarely stay that way. While some sections of the Tube system lie forgotten”, many have been repurposed for new activities and are used for special Hidden London tours, growing salad leaves, and for filming locations, including Charing Cross, which featured in Skyfall (2012).

7 . How the World’s Greatest Cities Got Their Nicknames
When you think of the world’s greatest cities, London, Paris and New York City probably come to mind. These much-loved cities also have famous nicknames. Do you know what they are and where they come from?
London: The Big Smoke
“The Big Smoke” was a popular nickname used by visitors to London in the 19th and 20th centuries. As they traveled into the city, they saw it through smog caused by coal burning in factories and homes.
The smoke pollution got so bad that it killed thousands of people over five days in 1952—an event that was called the Great Smog of London. It led to the government creating the Clean Air Act 1956, but even with cleaner air, the nickname stayed.
“The Big Smoke” can now also sometimes be used to refer to any large city.
Paris: The City of Love
We can’t be sure when people started calling Paris “The City of Love.” But many people think of French as “the language of love,” and books, music, movies and art all love to show us that Paris is where romance can be found. Just think of films like Midnight in Paris, French Kiss and Audrey Hepburn’s Love in the Afternoon, or famous love songs like Édith Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose,” from her 1950 album Chansons Parisiennes—or Parisian Songs.
New York City: The Big Apple
The most famous nickname for New York City is probably “The Big Apple.” It’s believed to have become popular in the 1920s, when sports writer John J. Fitz Gerald started writing articles about horse racing called “Around the Big Apple”—a name he had heard stable workers use for the city’s race courses.
However, it wasn’t until a tourism campaign in the 1970s that the nickname became really well known as a name for the whole city.

8 . Of the many safety measures that Disney Parks had to set up to operate during the Covid-19 pandemic, requiring guests to keep a six-foot distance from the costumed characters must have been one of the hardest.
For kids or kids at heart, running into the waiting arms of Mickey Mouse and other beloved characters had been such a fascinating and essential part of the experience, which makes hanging back terribly tough.
But finally, hugs are back on the horizon at US Disney sites.
As early as April 18, “Disney will start reintroducing traditional character greetings at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World Resorts, as well as aboard Disney Cruise Line and at Aulani Resort in Hawaii,” according to a new post on the official Disney Parks blog. Getting autographs, shooting photos close up and sharing a laugh face-to-face with characters such as Mulan, Goofy, and Donald Duck will all be back on the table.
“During the past two years, we’ve taken a very gradual, intentional approach to health and safety protocols,” wrote Shawn Slater, senior communications manager for Disney Live Entertainment, in the blog. “Recent trends and guidance have provided opportunities for us to bring back some of our most beloved magic, like character greetings and dining experiences. While not all locations will be available immediately, we anticipate reopening in stages throughout the spring and early summer.”
It’s not just character interactions that will be returning later this spring. At Disneyland in California, guests can look forward to the return of several nighttime spectaculars, including fireworks and Main Street Parade.
However, Disney still isn’t 100% back in some ways. Take face masks, for instance. Disney asks that visitors who are not fully vaccinated (接种疫苗) continue wearing face masks in all indoor locations. You can click here for their latest safety updates.

9 . During this holiday, my family took a trip to Tanzania. Getting there was really an adventure! We took fifteen different planes. The ride was difficult, but the scenery was amazing. When we arrived, the time difference was difficult to deal with, but after a few nights I got used to it. We stayed in a safari resort (游猎度假村). There were all kinds of noises. But they weren’t ones I was used to hearing; the noises came from animals and insects.
On our first day, we saw a herd of giraffes and two rhinos (犀牛). Our guide Mishi told us that the two black rhinos had been caught and brought here because they were in danger of dying out due to poachers (偷猎者), who wanted them for their horns (角). The two rhinos are not in a zoo but in guarded pens (牲畜栏) of about 100 acres.
The next day, Mishi took us to a river. In it, there are big crocodiles (鳄鱼) and even bigger hippos. After we took pictures, Mishi brought us to a suspension (悬挂) bridge. My family was very nervous about crossing it after seeing what was in the river and there was a sign saying “No more than one person on the bridge each time”. Mishi finally promised us that it was not dangerous, and she was right! We all made it to the other side in one piece.
After we explored a little in the area, we found a long line of ants. I noticed that a few were bigger than the others and these bigger ants were walking next to the line, as if keeping the others in order. Mishi told us that they were called Army Ants and were used by old Tanzanian tribes (部落) for medical treatment. They could live with nature harmoniously.
After many days of fun and great adventure, our trip was over. I am looking forward to going back someday.
